Do you love a book that keeps you guessing? Behind Blue Eyes is an electrifying psychological thriller with an exciting forbidden romance weaved into its intricate web of intrigue and suspense.

Despite his troubled past, Bradley Harper had never really had anything out of the ordinary happen to him. Life seemed good. Then one day, everything changed.

It started with a brutally mangled dead bird in his yard. Then every day, another appears in the same spot. Then there’s the strange notes, the horrific and sometimes gruesome pranks and soon, death comes for those he loves. Not even the chemistry laced relationship with the lovely Anita Greenall can stop his mind from heading down a dark and unstable path.

But the biggest torture is the questions: who’s doing it and why him? Soon he will find out, as he comes face to face with the monster that has been making his life hell and discovers, what really hides behind blue eyes.

An intense, gripping debut novel that will wrap its fast-paced pages around you and won’t let go.

I received a free download of “Behind Blue Eyes: Herein Lies A Monster” by the author, Helen Deakin in exchange for an honest review. This debut novel is listed as a mystery/thriller woven with elements of romance and suspense. I found it difficult to classify the genre that this novel fell under, and found it fell short on thrill, to involve the reader. I really wanted to be impressed with this novel, but for me it didn’t work.

This novel follows the life of Bradley Harper, who, is forced to start a new life after being kicked out of his family home at the age of eighteen, by his controlling and abusive father, a doctor, and his mother, who is totally manipulated by her husband. Bradley goes to work and is the perfect employee, but one day when he is chewed out by his boss for being late, he snaps and quits. This sets the ball in motion for more changes…

Now, a month later, Bradley is living in a new house and had started his own business. And a love interest is about to start with, Anita, woman that lives down the street. His perfect life was about to change.

His mother sneaks out of the household, to call her only son, Bradley to tell him something.
“There was something I wanted to talk to you about. Something we should have told you years ago.” What? Was he adopted? The call from a pay phone was disconnected before he could find out.

Then dead mangled magpies start showing up on his yard…every day. Why? Then this is followed by a lists of pranks and then murder, and he must figure out Who and Why!

I found the cursing language to be overdone, and unnecessary, and the characters and plot unrealistic. As a lover of psychological thrillers, I found that this novel did not grip me with intensity, for the duration of the novel.

I wish to thank Helen for a copy of her debut novel, and am sorry this novel didn’t work for me, but check out this novel and see for yourself.

I was so excited to get to finish this book because every time I picked it up I was so eager to find out what came next. I was hanging off of every page and the author just has a way of dragging you into the story with the realistic characters that are just like everyday people like you and me. There's so many phrases and quotes in this book that I just loved. The author really has a way with words and it was like reading a book that had mashed together the styles of Stephen King and Dean Koontz my two most favourite authors. I'm so glad Helen Deakin contacted me on Facebook that day to offer me this for free in exchange for my feedback and I will be definitely buying a paperback of this and reading the rest of her books. If her future stories are even half as good as this she will have gained a loyal reader in me for life.

I came across this book while scouring various book sites and Amazon. The book description sounded interesting, so I purchased it. I've never read anything by this author before, but I will keep my eyes out for future works that pique my interest.

The summary of this story is about a guy named Bradley, who had a troubled home life. When he got older, he quit his job and started his own business with the help of his best friend. He got a new home, and met new people. Then strange things started to happen. He dutifully reported to the police, but they could not help. He and his best friend tried numerous things to discover who was doing it, but it was like the person was one step ahead of them. Sinister, and more deadly encounters occurred. Finally after being kidnapped, he discovers who and why these things were happening.

This story contains light romance, murder, betrayal, intrigue and suspense. It had me continually second guessing myself, as to who was doing all those bad things. My curiosity was definitely intrigued with the twists and turns that kept coming. I found the ending to be right on target, though I was curious about Bradley. Makes you wonder if he would eventually turn out like his father if the author decided to make another story.

I found the pace of the story to be realistic, though in some instances, I just couldn't fathom how he was living while missing work a lot. The flow was steady throughout, and fast when action occurred. When I began this story, I discovered a dialect, that was a bit confusing, but as the story progressed, I was able to understand it.

The storyline was unique. Plots were believable, and lots of twists and turns. I found the details were convincing. The author has a creative ability to suck you into the story, turning page after page, to discover who was the person doing all those horrible things.

The characters were very believable, and acted accordingly to things that occurred throughout the story. I found myself rooting for Bradley and his will to fight for his life. Some instances, I thought he would give up but he just kept fighting. He had some amazing friends that stuck by him.

I like the title and description of the book, but I don't think the book cover justifies it enough to grab the attention of readers.

I would recommend this book to readers who like stories that keep you guessing. This story does contain some dark elements:domestic abuse, mental, emotional, and physical abuse. Just wanted to warn readers who are sensitive to those factors.

So fellow readers, get the book and read it and you can decide. Happy Reading!!

I exchanged a free copy by the author, in exchange of an honest review.

First I'd like to say that I really looked forward to reading it. The plot sounded good and promising.
I continued to like the plot of the story and I wanted to know how it was going to end. I did however pretty quickly guess the motive, and then shortly after figured out who the suspect was, which probably made the read a little less enjoyable.
Sadly I had a hard time connecting with any of the main characters, and sometimes found their conversations a little forced and unnatural.

Thanks again to the author for giving me a copy. I did enjoy reading it.

I hardly ever read psychological horror books, but this one grabbed me from the start. I feel like I have been watching a horror movie that shocks you over and over until you can't breathe. To say that this book was well written is an understatement . The characters are so well developed and at times devious that you can't help but keep reading .

The story is about Bradley who grew up in a nice home with a mom who was very sweet but afraid to speak up. His dad was domineering and at times resorted to domestic violence. He was a well known doctor and his secret home life was hidden very well. Bradley grew to resent his dad and after a horrible fight moved out. Bradley had no intention of ever following in his father's footsteps. The relationship between father and son shows how domestic violence can affect everyone and have lasting scars . There is a bit of a light romance in the book, but the main focus is Bradley and the torture he endures at the hands of someone whose hatred has overtaken their soul. He will find out that a dark secret has been hidden from him for many years. What will this secret do to Bradley's life when it is revealed?

It is hard to read this book without feeling your skin crawl and your heart beating as fast as it can. The descriptions of the various mind games and sheer terror that was bestowed on Bradley can only be written by an author with a creative , intense ability to keep the reader glued to the book. How much can Bradley take before he reaches his breaking point? Who hates him so much, that they would kill, mutilate and torture others just to make him suffer?

Be prepared for extreme violence and strong language that some readers may not like. If you are looking for a story that is a sheer terror at its best, this is the book for you. The author will take you on a journey to the mind of a demented person and slowly unravel the evil that lurks inside their dark soul. The ending is a powerful, good vs evil at its very best. Who will win?

Helen Deakin's writing has a way of pulling you into the world of Behind Blue Eyes. The author challenges the reader to question each character's motivation as the story unfolds. The narrative in her novel made me feel like I was a roommate to the main Character Bradley. The story itself reads like Stephen King's Secret Window and Garden with a pace similar to Jay Bonansinga's The Killer's Game. Helen Deakin is definitely an author to follow.

I received this book in a giveaway in exchange for an honest review. This was a well written thriller. The characters were well developed and the plot had plenty of twists to keep you guessing who was terrorizing the main character Bradley. By the time the climax comes you can truly understand why this guy is at his wits end. I recommend this book if you are a fan of psychological thrillers.

After I read The Clock Struck One by Helen Deakin I had to read her other books too! This one didn't disappoint.

Bradley is just an average bloke working hard to build a life for himself despite having a not so great upbringing. Then the horrible things that start happening are enough to make you really feel for him. I really connected with the characters and loved the writing style.

This story kept me guessing until the very end and just with The Clock Struck One I did not see the twist at the end coming.

This book follows the life of Bradley Harper, who, having survived a difficult childhood, finds himself catapulted into a horrific set of circumstances. What starts off as seemingly nasty pranks, turns into murder, and a race against time for his life.

I have to be honest and say I really didn’t enjoy this book. I found that the characters were very two-dimensional and clichéd; the brutal father, innocent girlfriend, laddish best mate. The plot was quite unrealistic and predictable with characters never seeming to have to go to work, and the situations that Bradley experienced were far fetched, with no explanations as to how the perpetrator made it possible. I thought the language was unnecessarily brutal and I did not enjoy her choice of words and images. All too often I felt the author was trying to shock unnecessarily. I felt that the book could not make up its mind whether it was supposed to be a psychological thriller or belonging to the horror genre, yet it did not succeed in being either.

If you want a quick, rough read which does get your adrenaline pumping at some points, then give it a go, but I think it is unlikely I would read any more of this author’s books.

This is a book for young adults. I found there were too many similes and too many adjectives. I also felt that the author may have written with a thesaurus close at hand; a more unusual word does not always do a better job than a simple word. However I do think the targeted reader is a lot younger than I am and would possibly enjoy the horror story woven around an ordinary, young man.
