Lovecraft Investigations: Crowley
The man who towers above all others in the occult world finally gets the long-form audio documentary treatment. Lovecraft Investigations: Crowley will be a five-part factual account of the life, works and exploits of notorious occultist Aleister Crowley, presented by Lovecraft Investigations hosts Matthew Heawood and Kennedy Fisher.
Background
Way back in the dim distant past (2018), I had the idea of taking an H.P. Lovecraft story and updating it in the style of a true-crime podcast. A lot of reading, writing, and headaches later, the audio series "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" was released and found a huge international audience.
Three more seasons followed; The Whisperer in Darkness, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and The Haunter of the Dark. Collectively these became known as The Lovecraft Investigations. All four seasons topped the international podcast charts and have been the subject of magazine features, wiki sites, and academic papers.
In the process, a story world was born. Dubbed the "Pleasant Green Universe", it has spawned a website, prose fiction, and a burgeoning online fan community. The possibilities of building out this universe and creating new projects, across a range of media, are endless.
But in order to build out the world, we need to chart a course away from our usual funding models, because we don't want to be beholden to corporate interests and ideas; we want to make shows that the growing fanbase will love, rather than ones that tick boxes for some streaming algorithm. And what better way to start this new leg of our journey than in the company of a poet, adventurer, magician and reprobate...
