I do love this series. It never fails to capture the imagination and attention during it’s entire short duration. Though this installment ends on a cliffhanger, but that’s not why I’m downgrading it. The reason is because it was built up how deadly and dire Lila falling into the wrong hands is, and how desperate Morgan is to retrieve her, that it feels like the momentum comes to a jarring halt as we take a break from the hunt for Lila for Morgan and Merlin to simply enjoy Seattle, leisurely visiting a market and buying cookies, and then their attention gets dragged away even further as they follow this random trail of magic they happen upon. Also the ditching of Merlin made it feel like the author was having trouble juggling him in the story, too, which is a shame since he’s a wonderful character. It also felt a bit monotonous as she encounters creature after creature, though the creatures themselves were very imaginative and had different spins from the norm. Still, I’m dying to see where the next installment will go to and a good, wily, smart Morgan is such a wonderful heroine to follow, who’s not afraid to show her soft side, or her large heart.

I have come to thoroughly enjoy Ms. Sparrow's chronicles of Morgan la Fey. While the series had a slow beginning, the beautiful use of language urged me to continue reading - and I'm so very glad I did!

I look forward to the next installment in the series and to seeing what new literary treats Ms. Sparrow will next delight us with!

Poor Morgan

I think she was having a bad day which, with luck, the majority will never experience. As normal, Morgan and Merlin stand together to fight their battles, unless one tries to protect the other. This book is a setup, at least I believe, for the trial and journey into hell.
