Bad Decisions by Cate Lane is a beautiful, emotional novella and the first glimpse into the Heroes and Lovers series.
Jewel is a physio from Brooklyn who has travelled to Southampton after the unexpected loss of her father. She is trying to pack up his life while also figuring out how to move forward without the person who has always been there for her. Unable to sleep, she finds herself at the beach watching the sunrise each morning, looking for a little peace in the middle of her grief.
Will Burns has recently retired from the US Army Rangers and is taking some time to reset before starting the next chapter of his life with an elite security company in DC. A week at a friend’s beach house seems like the perfect escape.
Neither of them expects to find comfort in a stranger, but sometimes the people we meet when we’re at our lowest are exactly the people we need. As reality and everyday life start calling them back, they’re faced with different challenges and the question of whether they can make a long-distance relationship work.
I loved the connection between Jewel and Will. Their friendship develops so naturally, and I really enjoyed watching Jewel slowly let her walls down and allow herself to be vulnerable. They find comfort, trust and understanding in each other while both trying to navigate how different life looks now.
I genuinely enjoyed every emotion this story made me feel and loved how Cate intertwined characters and storylines from her previous books.
This novella gave me all the feels—grief, healing, friendship, vulnerability, a beautiful connection and just a little bit of suspense. Definitely one to pick up if you love emotional romances!
Will and Jewel story is a Novella where we meet them on the Southampton beach in New York both have baggage but there seem to open up about things there don’t tell anyone else.
I always love MMC who knows when to admitted his feeling for his girl and Will doesn’t disappoint.
Jewel she is one tuff cookie even when she is down she finds her strength with great help from Will.
