Rock Hard Alien: Starlight Gargoyles #1 (Intergalactic Dating Agency): Spicy Alien Monster Romance

She restores ancient stone for a living. She's about to bring one very grumpy gargoyle back to life.
For centuries, Cairn has stood watch over a ruined Scottish castle.
Literally.
An alien gargoyle trapped in stone, he's waited through wars, storms and the passing of empires for the one woman destined to wake him. The only problem? Humans thought he was just another statue.
Traditional stonemason Georgie has spent her career restoring Scotland's historic buildings. Cleaning centuries of moss from an ancient gargoyle should have been just another day on the job... until the statue opens its eyes.
Now an impossibly handsome winged alien insists she's his fated mate, a matchmaking agency wants to help free his still-slumbering brothers, and someone will do anything to keep the gargoyles trapped in stone forever.
There's just one tiny stray too far from Georgie, and Cairn turns straight back to stone. The only way to keep him warm, winged and hers is to let him taste her blood.
After hundreds of years alone, Cairn has finally found the woman who can bring him back to life. Convincing Georgie they're meant to be together may prove even harder than surviving six centuries as a statue.
If you love a spicy monster romance – possessive alien warriors with wings, tails and a thirst for blood, strong women who don't like being told what to do, gothic Scottish nights, found family and sizzling, stone-shattering happily-ever-afters – get swept up in the world of the Starlight Gargoyles.

Rock Hard Alien by Skye MacKinnon is such a fun beginning to the Starlight Gargoyles series! Alien romance, Scottish castles, a centuries-old gargoyle, fated mates, and an independent stonemason who accidentally brings him back to life—this was such an unusual combination that I couldn't resist. Cairn and Georgie's story has humor, adventure, romance, and a wonderfully creative explanation for how an alien gargoyle ended up perched on a Scottish castle for nearly five hundred years.

Cairn's predicament begins in 1537 when the spacecraft carrying him and his three friends malfunctions and crashes on Earth. Separated from the others and thrown from his escape pod, Cairn immediately becomes petrified.

Then a local stonemason comes along, sees what appears to be a perfectly good gargoyle lying around, and apparently decides, I'll take that.

And that's how an alien ends up spending nearly five centuries sitting on top of Stirling Castle watching human history unfold around him.

I couldn't help laughing at the idea of poor Cairn being completely conscious yet trapped in stone while generations of people walk past believing he's simply "The Guardian." By the present day, he's understandably more than ready for something to happen.

Enter Georgie.

Georgie is Scotland's only female stonemason, and I loved how perfectly her profession fits the story. She has devoted her career to preserving the country's historic stonework, including its treasured gargoyles. Being asked to inspect and restore the Guardian at Stirling Castle is an honor.

Until she touches him.

Cairn opens his eyes.

For Georgie, this is understandably alarming. For Cairn, however, everything suddenly makes perfect sense. After centuries of waiting, the woman capable of waking him has finally arrived.

She's his mate.

Naturally, Cairn decides the best course of action is to grab Georgie and fly away with her.

There is just one small problem.

Apparently, sitting motionless for nearly five hundred years isn't particularly good for your muscles.

Their resulting crash landing in the forest might be one of my favorite parts because it establishes their relationship perfectly. Cairn has spent centuries waiting for this grand moment, only for reality to be considerably less impressive. Georgie, meanwhile, has gone from restoring a historic statue to being stranded in the woods with a winged alien insisting they're destined for each other.

Not exactly a normal day at work!

Fortunately, Georgie knows exactly whom to call. Her best friend Cleo works for the Hot Tatties Dating Agency and already knows a thing or two about aliens living on Earth. I really enjoyed how this connection opens up the larger world of the series and begins Cairn's search for the three friends he lost after their crash.

There is also a clever complication to Cairn and Georgie's relationship: he can't travel very far from her without beginning to turn back into stone. After waiting almost five hundred years to find her, the possibility of losing his freedom again gives Cairn plenty of motivation to convince Georgie they're meant to be together.

Georgie isn't nearly as willing to accept the whole "fated mate" situation simply because Cairn says so—and I loved that about her. Cairn might have waited centuries for her, but Georgie met him approximately five minutes ago. Some things simply can't be rushed, even when one member of the relationship is operating under a rather unusual deadline.

Rock Hard Alien is funny, romantic, adventurous, and delightfully strange in the best possible way. The combination of Scottish history, alien mythology, gothic atmosphere, fated mates, found family, and gargoyle lore creates a world I'm excited to return to—especially because Cairn's missing friends leave plenty of possibilities for what comes next.

Cairn spent nearly five hundred years watching the world from the top of Stirling Castle, waiting for the one woman who could finally set him free. Georgie thought she was restoring an old gargoyle—she had no idea she was about to restore his entire life.

Cairn and his three friends are on a mission to another planet when their spacecraft malfunctions and they crash into earth in 1537. Cairn is thrown from his escape pod and immediately becomes petrified. Along comes a stone mason who sees a chance to grab a free gargoyle, and he ends up on top of Stirling Castle in Scotland, the home of King James V. Fast forward to the present, he is still frozen on top of the castle bored out of his mind!

Georgie is the only female stonemason in Scotland. She takes care of the nations treasured gargoyles, cleaning and repairing any damage and cracks. When she is asked to inspect “The Guardian” on top of Stirling Castle she is honored. But the first time she touches him, he comes to life. He knows what that means. She is his mate! So he does what any male gargoyle does to keep his mate safe, he grabs her and flies away. Only he didn’t think about the fact he hasn’t used his wings or muscles for hundreds of years and they crash land in the forest. Not the best start to a relationship!

What is Georgie going to do, stranded with a crazy gargoyle in the forest? Fortunately she knows just who to call, her best friend Cleo, who just happens to work for the Hot Tatties Dating Agency. Cleo knows about aliens on earth and takes them to her boss.

Things are pretty crazy after that and Cairn knows he only has a short period of time to convince Georgie to accept him as her mate or he will be petrified again. By there’s some things that can’t be rushed! Excellent book. I can’t wait until the next in the series is available.

Great story

A really fun read. As with all the other intergalactic Dating Agency books I've read, this one was a real Hoot to read. Being a Captain of a ship who crashed onto Earth, back in the 1500's, he has watched in a frozen state for centuries. Unable to move, speak, or fly. Wondering about his friends and shipmates. Not knowing if they survived or if they too were frozen somewhere else. Having a female suddenly touch him, and knowing her scent immediately as a potential mate unlocks his solid state, enough to Catch her arm and stop her fall off a ladder. Conveniently her friend who works for a dating agency lives close by and picks them up after he panic is and toys them both too far away to walk back to her car. So now the agency is aware of gargoyle like aliens on the planet, that must be found, and their DNA markers will be traced. Such a fun read. Looking forward to the other two, and maybe them all going to their home planet. With their mates, of course. Trish. A

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the introduction to Cairn, Hallr and Sten who are Gharrgoil’s from the planet Spiris and on a mission for their people and their spaceship travels to earth, which is not in their charts. The ship malfunctions and take them to earth where it crash lands, all three escape by the escape pods but land in different areas. Cairn crash lands in Glasgow, where an artist will known for making gargoyles places him on a well in the famous castle back in the time of 1537. Cairn is woken from his Stone slumber by Georgie, who is a stonemason given the task of restoring and cleaning gargoyles does she know that she is the fated mate of Cairn and now they are embarking on a journey to find the other two Gharrgoils. The next story in the series is about Sten’s journey.

Cairn an ancient alien gargoyle trapped in stone waiting for the woman who can free him and Georgie a traditional stonemason who has spent her career restoring Scotland’s historic buildings. I loved the Scottish aspects, the history and the steamy fated mates romance between our couple. I loved it and can't wait to meet Cairn's two friends and their mates. Highly recommend.

This was an interesting read. All Georgie was doing was her job. She restores the old stonework to a clean finish.
When she tries that with one Gargoyle she ends up waking an alien warrior who wants to mate with her so he doesn't turn back to stone.
This is something his kind does when they are in an unknown setting. So he has been frozen for many years and it seems that it was for a reason. his people only have one mate and he hadnt found his. So sitting for years until she shows is the best thing for him. But that isnt how human woman work. We dont just know this and go with it. So with some guidance he will woo his mate

It's an interesting story how the protagonists meet, managing to get hurt multiple times and avoiding becoming a stone-like gargoyle again; their interactions leave one doubting whether the heroine will agree to be the hero's mate.
I can only wonder how he will integrate on Earth and what their future holds.

Having a fear of heights somehow does not affect climbing a ladder to a bed swinging from the ceiling; it seems to be a selective fear, not combined with a fear of getting hurt.

Carin and his 2 teammates were flying through space and then crash landed on Earth. He didn’t know if they survived and he is petrified as a protective measure. For almost 500 years he is the “Guardian” of the castle. Along comes Georgie and Carin’s life changes. Carin comes back to “life” when Georgie is near. She is his mate and she doesn’t know what to do with that. Things are crazy after that. Will Carin be able to convince Georgie that they are mates before he petrifies again?

Rock Hard Alien by Skye Mackinnon is part of the Starlight Gargoyles Intergalactic Dating Agency series. I love these spicy shorter romances. This one features Georgie who is supposed to remove moss from a statue on top of castle, but it becomes flesh and flies away with her at first touch. Come to find out he is a an alien, and she is his mate!

Cairn & Georgie were fantastic.

Big soft spot for Cairn particularly. Loved the setup for more going forward.

The stone details were great.

It's been awhile since I read a book from the Starlight Alien Mail Order Brides series and I really enjoyed this first book from it's newest trilogy to be added. This story is about Cairn & Georgie and I thought the two of them made a great couple. This is a fairly quick read and I look forward to reading the next two books.
