This entire series ATE DOWN!! So much so I think I’m going to start it over and reread the entire series. This author’s growth from book 1 to 4 is evident, and she truly wrote an addictive and explosive series. If I could sum it up in a few words, I would say real, raw and gritty! She truly made us fall in love with these characters, despite the emotional turmoil that they put us through, throughout the entire series. I feel like Tasha, Mikki and Dreka are family at this point because who else can piss you off and make you love them all at the same time. EXCELLENT conclusion!

THE SLUMS DON’T LOVE NOBODY
Man, this one was heavy! My girl MiKki never had a chance. Every man she came in contact with only wanted to use her. Including her baby daddy! Dreka just kept setting herself up. Not going to lie, the way she dropped that baby off and took off had me weak laughing cause men do it all the time. My girl Tasha…she was so busy trying to save everybody by hurting herself. Babyyyyyy! I enjoyed EVERY part of this series! 😂🔥
The Slums was sooo messy, hilarious, chaotic, and entertaining from the very beginning of Book 1. A PAGE TURNER fr! There was mess on damn near every page, plot twists flying left and right, and I was laughing the whole way through. This is definitely going down as one of my favorite series! I loved how it read like a whole TV show—I could literally see everything playing out in my head. And I REALLY appreciated that it didn’t end with everybody getting a happy ending. I love when an author doesn’t save characters just for the sake of the story. Sometimes people gotta GO! 😂

Tasha was annoying for most of the series. I was constantly like, girl… HOW DUMB CAN YOU BE?! 😭 I had so many moments where I wanted to shake her.
Dreka—not gonna lie, she annoyed me too because she was grimey as hell, BUT I understood her. In my eyes, she really didn’t have much of a choice. She was dealt a shitty hand in life from jump, so I could understand why she moved the way she did. I hated when she would start acting dumb and completely lost when certain things happened to her though. Like girl, PLEASE 😭 But honestly, she was probably the second most entertaining character right after my girl Mikki!
MIKKI. MIKKI. MIKKI. 😭😭😭 My girl went OUT SAD. I kept waiting for her to finally get her shit together, and every time she said she was going to, the very next sentence she was right back on her bullshit! 😂 I honestly felt like she was misunderstood during that last scene in Book 4 with Tasha. Tasha was WRONG for that, especially knowing everything, and then she had the nerve to confront that man afterward! But anywayyyy…
Mikki was easily the most entertaining character to me. My girl was literally burning Orlando to the ground and did NOT give a damn! 😂 And the DENIAL?! When people were telling her she stank and she was getting mad like, BITCH WHATTTT?! 😭😭😭 I was cryingggg.
I loved these characters so much. My favorite supporting characters were definitely Daf and Coogi. Daf's funny ass had me cracking up every time! 😂
Overall, this was a 5⭐️ series for me! Messy, entertaining, hilarious, unpredictable, and full of characters I’m definitely not going to forget anytime soon. I’m 100% getting into more of Kutura B’s catalog after this because yeahhh… she got me! 😂🔥

This is how you end a series
No spoilers… just appreciation.
Whew. What a ride.
This series made me laugh out loud, clutch my Kindle during the hood fights, fuss at these characters, roll my eyes, smile, stress, and eventually tear up. These are characters I genuinely won’t forget.
I found myself rooting for them, getting frustrated with them, laughing with them, praying they’d make better decisions, and hoping they’d somehow beat the odds.
What I appreciated most was how real this story felt. This wasn’t a fairytale wrapped up with a perfect little bow. It was gritty, raw, emotional, and honest. The ending reminded me that sometimes real life doesn’t give everyone a happy ending—and that’s exactly what made it so powerful. Sadly, this is the reality for so many communities.
Kutura B. has a gift for writing characters that feel like people you’ve actually met. Their victories felt personal. Their losses hurt. Their mistakes were frustrating. Their growth was worth celebrating.
Heartbreaking… yet somehow the perfect ending for a real-ass series written by a real-ass author.

I can’t believe that this series has come to an end!
The 3 POVs from each FMC wrapped up in ways that I predicted and in ways that I did not. I laughed so much while reading this. I appreciated the quick synopsis of how book 3 ended to prepare my mind for the finale. I was taken for a ride until the very end.

Now this is how you wrap up a series! I laughed, I cried, I had a grand ol' time and ate this book up. Kutura B did an amazinggggg job building up to the climax of the book, to where i just knewwww something was going to go down (because the end was near obviously) but I had NO clue what was in store for Tasha, Mikki, and Dreka. When I tell yall the last 20% of this book whooped on me soooo bad. I cried for at least 15 min after finishing 😭 (something I'm sure I've never done).

Talk about a Rollercoaster ride!!!
This whole series was up and down. It turned my lil feelings every which way but loose. I felt like I knew the characters and wanted them to succeed but you know how life goes. Ya'll go check this series out. You won't be disappointed.

I love the entire series but the finale is now my favorite! I ate it up! Huge difference from episode one to now! The growth 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾! I laughed out loud so much shit was funny af! These characters stress me and frustrate me to no end but I’ve also grown to love them in different ways. I thought i hated Mikki but in this book i understood her . We got to know her on a deeper level and i now understand exactly why she’s the way she is and feels the way she does! A lot of people failed her! She pulled the most emotion out of me! Tasha has come a long way from the slums and in this book we got to see a more mature side of her and we also got to see her choose forgiveness in moments where she normally would have whooped ass instead! Dreka 🙄. No words for that one lol karma is real! Kutura you wrapped this up with a bang ! You stressed me but job well done!

Finally got to episode 4. This was a good series for will kiss these characters. I don’t feel like it needed to be an episode 4 but nevertheless it was a good read. That’s crazy how the ye detective came in a hospital room after someone gave birth to tell them their sister died that was wild.
I laughed every time someone talked about Mikki’s smell and she act oblivious lol.

I wasn't ready for this to end! This was a really good series. I really wanted to see Mikki win and get herself together. Dreka really got on my last nerve with some of the choices she made throughout this whole series. Tasha I think she did deserve a peaceful life.

Not a single gotdamn fairytale exists in The Slums.
And after four episodes, I wouldn't have wanted KuTura B. to suddenly give me one.
Episode Four brings the drama, betrayal, bloodshed, and one explosive-ass ending, but it also made me understand these women more completely. And nobody pulled at my heartstrings more than Mikki.
Learning more about what happened to her as a child was fucking heartbreaking. No child should experience the things she did, and far too many people failed her when she needed someone to protect her.
But that's also what makes generational cycles so devastating.
I can look at the child Mikki was and believe somebody should've saved her while looking at her children and believing somebody has to save them too.
Understanding her more didn't erase my disappointment in her choices. It made the entire situation sadder.
You can want somebody to do better. You can love them. Give them resources. Offer help. Open doors. But eventually, they have to want something different enough to fight for it themselves. Nobody can fight that shit for them.
And that's why Tasha made me the proudest.
Breaking cycles didn't suddenly make her perfect. She fucked up. She still had to battle the connections, behaviors, obligations, and people tied to everything she was trying to escape. But she kept trying to build something different for herself and her children, including learning one of the hardest lessons there is: You cannot save everybody.
Meanwhile, Dreka continued disguising selfishness as self-preservation until Karma finally came to Kollect.
And KOLLECT that bitch did.
What I appreciated most about this finale is that KuTura didn't pour sugar over shit. This series is real in some of the rawest, ugliest ways because it's telling stories about people, environments, trauma, addiction, violence, poverty, motherhood, and cycles that actually fucking exist.
Some parts were difficult to read. And they should be.
By the end, I realized getting out of the Slums was never the entire battle.
You also have to decide what you're going to do with everything the Slums put inside you.
And nobody else can make that choice for you.

Dreka is trifling. Ain’t no way she did what she did. I get momma got a life too.
Butta was just about how gutta they get. Y’all boy and Dreka were the same - community.
Jah irked my nerves. He was doing too much. Coogi did him right. Just glad he finally showed signs of growth, even though it was a little too late.
Coogi was a man that’s use to getting his way by all means. He not a bad guy at all but he does show signs of insecurities.
Tasha, she played blinded in my opinion when it came to Shad but she didn’t deserve the treatment. Her and Coogi lack of communication and listen worked my nerves.
Now Daf, I rocked with him but he wasn’t a true friend with certain issues. Like he should’ve step in and stopped Dreka for some of her actions. Now that Shad situation. I was speechless. Wish there was more update on that once the truth was told.
Listen, I can talk about this series until I turn blue in the face. One thing Kutura did was show what it really is in the slums today. She displayed the good, the bad and the ugly. You wanna go to the projects? The trenches? Where they ain't got no shoes on? Where there's roaches in the cereal? Where they be tricking? Fighting? Pulling tracks out? Knocking wigs loose? Well, The Slums is the series for you. This has definitely been added to my list of favorite urban fiction/street lit series.
The Slums gives you a cup of The Corner with a dash of Snowfall and a sprinkle of The Wire. If you're looking for a HEA, this ain't it, chile! It's raw, gritty, and unapologetic. You're going to laugh, cry, scream, and go through every emotion you can possibly think of. This series is the definition of "the struggle is real."
This series is jam-packed with drama, mess, scandal, betrayal, and so much more. As soon as I finished one, I ran to start the next. Even though they stressed me out to no end, I fell in love with the characters. By the end of the series, they felt like family, and it was bittersweet to see their stories come to an end. I would love to have a novella in the future. I also loved the audiobooks. The narrators really did the characters justice and brought this hood tale to life!

I officially finished The Slums Episode 4: The Finale, and KuTura Bdid not come to play with us. 📚 That pen is lethal you hear me! This series had everything from unforgettable characters, complicated relationships, raw emotion, laugh-out-loud moments, and enough drama to keep me STRESSED from beginning to end.
Some characters grew, some pissed you clean off, and others had to face the consequences of every decision they made.
Even with all the realities of life in the hood, KuTura B. still found a way to make me holler! 🤣 One minute I was ready to cry, and the next minute I was crying laughing. From Daf being Daf or someone addressing Mikki’s “lil issue”, I had real tears in my eyes. 😂 That balance is a gift and it truly felt like a reflection of life in the slums. Pain, survival, family,laughter, love, loyalty, betrayal, and people doing the best they can with what life handed them.
This finale was raw, UNPREDICTABLE, hilarious, heartbreaking, and completely worth the missed hours of sleep!

This was hard for me because as a whole I enjoyed this series, but as an individual book it really felt unnecessary to me. I honestly feel like the first two books of the series were the best. This felt like we were doing the same things over and over and over without making any actual progress. Everybody got what I knew they were gonna get after book 2, like the endings that everybody got were the endings that I expected for those characters. It was hard for me to kind of be sad about some of the things that happened because it was just quite obvious that’s what we were going. I will say that these characters feel very real they feel like people you can know, like people that I do know. there’s no fairytales or happily ever after. There’s just life and I love that and there are so many things that I could discuss in detail for hours because that’s how much I have to say about this series as a whole but for me this last book was just fine. It was written well. Everything was there. It just didn’t have that thing that put it over the top for me.

The Slums Part 4 Review 📚🔥
Part 4 was SO good. The ending was explosive, and it felt like everything was happening all at once. I was literally sitting there like, “OH MY GOSH!” 😭 It definitely took me on an emotional rollercoaster because whew… the emotions were EMOTING.
But what I love about this author is that she always knows how to throw in those funny moments too 😂. She is genuinely hilarious, and somehow she can have you stressed one minute and laughing the next.
I also love how REAL her stories feel. Everything isn’t wrapped up in a pretty little bow with a fairytale ending. Sometimes shit happens. Sometimes people make bad decisions. Sometimes there isn’t a happy ending—and THAT’S what makes her books hit different for me.
Her stories give REAL hood, gutter, messy, “this could really happen” vibes, and I eat that shit up every single time. 😂
The Slums 1–4 was a RIDE, and Part 4 was the perfect way to close it out.

Damn Kutura
Episode 2 & 3 ain’t gonna nothing on this finale bc baybee I was hooked. Tasha and Coogi had their fair share of problems however they came out stronger than ever. Jah was doing the most and even came across a startling revelation that no one could’ve predicted or saw coming. I am happy he became a better person to those who needed him most. Dream was still bs when it came to men however she meets someone that makes her want to be better and just when she falls a hard it’s snatched from under her. Shad met a fate that wasn’t just but I can’t say I’m upset about it. Just when you thought Butta changed he shows us that he’s still the same person he’s always been. Mikki was on her way to being a better person then she’s knocked 10 steps back and I hate that for esp with all that she’s been through. Wanna know what they all had to endure pick up this 5 star read by Kutura B. No disappointments from this reader and you can stamp that. You did the damn thang friend 😊👏🏾👏🏾

I've read books one thru four and I loved the whole series .
But this review is about book number four, I am not going to front I didn't feel bad for Mikki , Dreka,Butta Shad or Jah.
Mikki, girl I got it you went through something as a kid but damn girl I kept rooting for you to get it together your hygiene your life but you never did.Dreka, you let penis ruining your life you needed to really grow up and you screwed your dang life up.Butta snake snake dirty snake....Jah, you wanted to play grown man games and you played yourself. The ending I kinda figured it would end like it did.... Tasha kinda made me mad worrying about he lowdown undercover baby daddy but I am glad she got it together. I am glad Tasha did get her happy and Deuce finally get the love and care she deserves... Good series.

Sometimes Life Be Lifing
Ayo Kutura! I need some edges now since this crazy ride is over. Since Episode One the lessons were loud! There was no quiet on the creek! I would say I felt bad for Mikki but baby was Mrs Can’t get right! Dreka was despicable in every sense of the word. I’m so glad karma caught up with her stoopid tail self! Tasha got what she deserved in the best way possible. Sure she had to go through a few rough patches but in the end she won. Despite this being a fictional tale we all know people who mirror these characters. The Slums is a dirty love song to every “hood” in America. Kutura you did your big one! Definitely get into this amazing series, you won’t regret it!

I loved The Slums Part 4. The final instalment was everything I was hoping for. This series was never about the fairytale—it was about the raw, gritty reality of life in the hood, and Kutara delivered that so authentically from beginning to end.
And yes, Kutara... you got my tears.
I fell in love with these characters, flaws and all. They weren't perfect, but that's exactly what made them feel so real. I found myself rooting for them through every heartbreak, every mistake, and every hard-earned victory. I'm genuinely sad to be saying goodbye to this world and these characters, but what an ending. It wrapped up the series in a way that felt honest, emotional, and completely fitting.
A phenomenal conclusion to a series I won't be forgetting anytime soon. ❤️

Reading about mikki up until finale she wasn’t on my list of favorite but man this book changed everything for me. I wanted so much for her, my heart was so broken for her and I felt like Tasha knowing that she’s been through so much from childhood didn’t try her best for her sister. It made me honestly dislike her character as the book went on even after all the bs mikki did, I was rooting for her. Jah was honestly just irritating as hell honestly and Dreka I have no words. KuTura did her big one with this series. If you don’t relate to this have you really live lifeeee? It may no be directly but every city got a Slums and they all come wit a Mikki, Dreka, Tasha, Shad, Butta and even a Daf or two 🤭. I been locked in since episode 1 and while the turn around times wasn’t that long I took much appreciation for the recaps at the beginning of each book 👏🏾. This series is complete cinema that belong on the big screen. It’s in my top 5 recs for everyone who ask me what to read!

Good and Ghetto!
The Slums series was my second story from author KuTura B., Selfish was the first one. And I've enjoyed each project in audiobook up until The Slums Finale, which I had to finish in ebook. The ending was a goodbye to Mikki, Dreka and Tasha, and while some storylines wrapped up better than others, the choices each woman made...while being heavily influenced by their upbringing, played a huge part in their individual outcomes when it was all said and done! From the ghetto dialect, numerous fights, entertaining supporting characters and overall ratchetness that took place, I was here for it from day 1! And what an enjoyable ride it was through 4 books!

I really enjoyed this series from beginning to almost the very end. The characters kept me invested, and I couldn’t stop reading. Unfortunately, the final book lost me a bit.
I’m a very literal thinker, so maybe I missed something, but the part where Dreka and Kev went back to Briggs’ apartment just didn’t make sense to me. Why would they go back there? Then to have sex there when you know you’re sneaking in, in the first place? lol, It seemed unlikely that Dreka would leave important documents in Briggs apartment. That plot point felt rushed and not as strategically thought out as the rest of the series.
Overall, I still enjoyed the journey.

Not for the faint of heart…
This series is EXACTLY what I was looking for! A lot of urban lit is romance now and that’s cool but where I come from it’s not sunshine and roses and KuTura gave me just what I needed… RAW HOOD SHIT. I am gonna miss Tasha, Mikki and Dreka and lord knows they put me through every emotion imaginable. Since I have read Slums 1-3 and while I was waiting on 4 I flew through KuTuras whole catalog!! It’s def worth it! She is now one of my “ I don’t care what they put out I’m reading it” authors!!!
