I read a lot, and I mean A LOT of Children's Pictures Books. If you read my reviews, I am brutally honest, and I give frank my opinions. But they are just my opinions.

I received this book in an email from a co-worker.

This book is a nice try but it feels very self published. It has a very amateur feel with awkward rhymes and weird phrasing that didn't flow well.

The pictures are good but they are very flat (one dimensional). Looks like stuff from a beginning art class. Meaning that the hat is a different in size and perspective on Mr Pickery head on each pictures (actually a lot of that). Just not a lot of space and size consistency. Not sure what 'pickley foo' but I wouldn't want a chair made out of it.

Fish is a plural not singular noun BUT can be used when referring to multi fish species (I don't see multiple species of fish depicted in this book). It also goes from the second phrase last word rhyming each other to 4 lines last word rhyming and then 4 lines last word rhyming, I guess if that is the style you are going for that is fine but it just doesn't flow.

The grubs are very VERY strange Might be fun if they had names--

The story, is fine, but a pickle is more fun to say than cucumber and Dickery Pickery is super fun to say. However one doesn't grow pickles.

I like supporting local authors and appreciate their attempts and creativity - I think it takes a lot of guts to put your blood, sweat and tears out there to be critiqued but it would take a little more polish and work to attract a national publisher.

Dickery Pickery has landed in a pickle—quite literally.
Dickery up and decides one day to become a pickle farmer, and he’s so successful that he has more pickles than he, his wife, and three pet grubs knows what to do with.
This is a fun read for a small child, highlighting problem-solving and phonemic awareness. Some of the words are a little tough for early readers, but the rhyming aspect makes memorization easy enough to have your kiddo connecting to those bigger words.

I received this book for free from a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway. I read it with my 8 year old who enjoyed the humor of all the trouble the farmer got into while growing his pickles. The book is an enjoyable read in rhyme style format.

Definitely a great book to read out loud! When I got my advance copy in the mail, I started to read it out loud, even though there wasn't anyone around. I haven't given this book to my grandchildren, yet, but when I do I know they will love the rhyming verses and illustrations.

This is another of my sons favorite books now, and is always in the rotation of bedtime books. Not too long, and a lot going on in each page. I would recommend it.

In compliance with FTC guidelines, I must disclose that I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

This cute rhyming book has fun pictures and text. I just love Mr. Pickery and all the problems he runs into with his crazy pickle crop. Farming can't be that hard, can it? Give it a read.
