4.5 Just. Too. Good. STARS
Simply devoured this!! When Ms. Hart promised more Zeth and Sloane with the sister series Chaos and Ruin, I had no clue how generous she'd be!! I thought the story'd be about someone else with Zee in the periphery -nuh huh -- this was full on Zeth's POV!! And Sloane's and also a new character, Mason Reeves.
The story takes place three months after the end of Blood and Roses. Sloane is in full swing at the hospital. While still under the critical eye of the Chief of Staff, she's making a name and climbing the ranks as a stellar trauma doctor. Zeth is content to run his gym and take care of Sloane...while it all sounds rather domestic, Zeth is still the dirty, deviant man I love...
“There isn’t a man alive on this planet that can come close to being anywhere near as sexy, thrilling, scary, alluring, or terrifying as him, all in one go.”
And Zeth and Sloane are still are as beautiful, searing and combustible as ever!!

Okay, focus, back to the story....so, Mason breaks into Zeth's gym and comes head to head with Zeth and Michael. From here, we learn of Mason's life, his sole responsibility for his little sister Millie and his desire to make some serious coin as a fighter so he can give his sister a better life. Zeth sees something in Mason and decides to teach Mason how to fight.
This book has planted the seeds for trouble to grow with the New York Mafia reaching out to Zeth; theskank DEA Lowell showing up and Mason's entrance into illegal fighting. This first book promises more hot steamy sex, friendship, danger and darkness...I can't wait!!!

4.5 LOVIN ZETH STARS

Zeth and Sloane are back. Anyone who has read the Blood and Roses Series will be glad to be back with this Scooby crew!
Violent Things picks up directly after Collateral (the sixth book in the series). Zeth and Sloane are settling into domesticated life. Sloane still works at the hospital as a trauma surgeon and Zeth is running the gym. He is working diligently to balance his love for Sloane and his drive to stay true to himself. Sloane and Zeth are in a great place. Although, as Zeth begins the internal battle of his bad boy wanting to come out and play coupled with a mob boss calling him to join the payroll, things are about to get very interesting.
"I guess with Zeth being, well, Zeth, I haven’t wanted a moment away from him. Being in his very presence is like a drug I can’t get enough of."-Sloane
In true Zeth fashion, the sexual chemistry between these two is off the charts. I feel like Callie Hart knows how to push the boundaries by keeping Zeth charged with creative sexual energy. I am never bored when reading a scene between these two. The anticipation is so sweet and I always feel like I am waiting right along with Sloane! What will Zeth do next? It is the perfect mixture of pleasure, passion, and just a touch of pain.

Violent Things also introduces us to two new characters to invest in.
Mason is a twenty something just trying to get by. He works in a garage by day and he wants to join an underground fighting circuit. He has one goal and that is to take care of his sick little sister. In order to prepare for his first fight, he needs to train. After a visit to the Blood and Roses Gym, Mason convinces Zeth to train him.
"He might be crazy and he might have killed the worst mob boss Seattle has ever seen, but that also means he’s the best. Where else would I get training like that? And for free?"-Mason
While working at the shop one day, a sweet young thing named Kaya drops off her car. She is instantly interested in Mason and does everything in her power to woo him. She doesn't waste any time asking Mason out.
"I don’t like to waste time. By the end, when I die, I want to look back and know that I climbed mountains and jumped out of planes with the time other people wasted talking about the goddamn weather.”-Kaya
Truthfully what makes this book so amazing for me is the love between Zeth and Sloane. Had I not read the Blood and Roses series, I would not have had that connection already established. I may not have been able to appreciate the events that unfold in this read. Violent Things is just the beginning of a great series ahead. Was it actually violent? No, not really. But many questions remain. Will Mason and Kaya find peace in each other? Will Zeth be able to maintain his "good boyfriend" status? Is loving Sloane really enough? And most importantly, will Zeth return to his mobster ways? I, for one, cannot wait to find out. Bring it on Ms. Hart- I will be waiting!

Zeth Mayfair and Sloane Romero had gone through a lot in the past. He had retired from being a mafia enforcer and ran a gym, while she was climbing up in her career as a trauma doctor.
Mason Reeves was a young mechanic in need of extra cash. His solution was to join an underground fight circuit. In order to do that, he ended up in Zeth’s gym. But both Zeth and Mason’s lives revolved around crime and it was getting harder to avoid or ignore. Their calm lives might just be the beginning of a raging storm brewing quietly.
If you know me well enough, you’d know how much I love Zeth. It’s been a while since I read the Blood & Roses series and he barely made an appearance in Hell’s Kitchen, so I am very pleased with his comeback in this book.
Zeth Mayfair was back with a vengeance. Wait… scratch that. Zeth was back to live a normal life with Sloane, away from the danger of his past life. Yes, I know it’s hard to believe, but Zeth Mothefucking Mayfair was turning domestic, just quietly running his gym while doing all he could to please Sloane and stay out of trouble.
I’ve always love Sloane. She was a smart and strong female character. She could be on her own, but I appreciate that she chose to have a vulnerability in the form of Zeth.
Mason was an interesting character. I love his background story and his motivations. I’m intrigued at how the author is going to weave his story into the plot because at the moment it was barely scratching the surface.
As for the book itself, it had an easy pace. Most of the book was about Zeth and Sloane’s romance. Personally, I prefer it with gun totting actions in between, but the slow pace was made up by plenty of scorching sex scenes.
And I am also incredibly glad that Zeth didn’t turned out to be a pussy. Even though he was trying to lay low, he was still dipping his fingers in illegal activities.
Thankfully, by the end of the book, things were picking up as their past lives caught up to them. By the ending, I’m predicting something much more exciting and explosive for the next book.

I loved the Blood & Roses series so of course I was going to love a book that continues Zeth and Sloane's story and gives us one more viewing point for the amazing bigger story that is told throughout the Blood & Roses series , Rebel, Hell's Kitchen and now Violent Things.
So Callie Hart...one thing is for sure...
Besides Zeth and Sloane we find out a little about what Michael has been up to (he's getting his book soon enough) and we get a brand new character :D

First and foremost, I am going to gush because Zeth Mayfair is back!!!! This man just simply exudes sex at all times! The words uttered from his filthy mouth travel right to your core and ignite a flame like you wouldn’t believe! I haven’t even addressed Zeth’s body – his tongue, hands, cock, ass, shoulders, abs are pure heaven! There is no need to wear any clothing while reading about Zeth because you’re body will be on fire! For those who have read the Blood & Roses series, you know the power he holds!

In addition to the hot scenes, Zeth and Sloane’s relationship continues to grow and is wrapped in a layer of love, trust and strength.

Since Charlie is now absent from the criminal world in Seattle, gang allegiances are shifting and power plays are being waged. The underworld is waiting for Zeth to claim his rightful position as Charlie’s heir to the throne. Even though Zeth has no interest in returning to his past, interested parties are wielding their influence to partner with Zeth; thereby, setting the stage for what is to come.
Adding to the plot, we are introduced to a new hunk, 23 year old Mason Reeves. While trying to make ends meet by working as an auto mechanic, Mason hopes to supplement his income as underground fighter in order to support and care for his 6 year old sister. Since Mason’s income is limited, he sneaks into the gym directly across from the auto shop. After getting busted by Zeth, and by some miracle, Zeth offers to give some fighting lessons to Mason rather than throw him outside on the curb. Further complicating Zeth and Sloane’s stability, is the persistent DEA Agent Lowell. A body has been uncovered and she is gunning to send Zeth back to Chino.
Violent Things sets the stage for this new series and it seems like it will be as entertaining and action packed as Blood & Roses. I am curious to see how the author will continue to develop these characters and this storyline. In true Callie Hart fashion, the writing is gripping and her characters are captivating. I look forward to devouring this new series.
For the optimum experience, Violent Things should be read after the Blood & Roses series (books 1-6.)

Since Charlie is now absent from the criminal world in Seattle, gang allegiances are shifting and power plays are being waged. While trying to make ends meet by working as an auto mechanic, Mason hopes to supplement his income as underground fighter in order to support and care for his 6 year old sister. Since Mason’s income is limited, he sneaks into the gym directly across from the auto shop. After getting busted by Zeth, and by some miracle, Zeth offers to give some fighting lessons to Mason rather than throw him outside on the curb. Further complicating Zeth and Sloane’s stability, is the persistent DEA Agent Lowell. A body has been uncovered and she is gunning to send Zeth back to Chino.
Violent Things sets the stage for this new series and it seems like it will be as entertaining and action packed as Blood & Roses. I am curious to see how the author will continue to develop these characters and this storyline. In true Callie Hart fashion, the writing is gripping and her characters are captivating. I look forward to devouring this new series.
For the optimum experience, Violent Things should be read after the Blood & Roses series (books 1-6.)

Zeth is back baby!!!!!
And boy oh boy does Callie not disappoint with his return! Violent Things picks up after The Blood and Roses series, and also weaves throughout some of Hell's Kitchen's story line.
Zeth and Sloane are living a blissful, domesticated life. Sloane is still a doctor, and Zeth is still running his gym, Blood and Roses. Enter Mason Reeves - a young mechanic who works across the street from the gym, looking to train to become a fighter in order to earn money to help his sick younger sister who is under his care. Zeth agrees to train him, seeing something in him that brings out a softer side.
In true Callie fashion, the story is fast paced, HOT, entertaining, and ends with your jaw dropping to the floor from what Agent Lowell (yep that bitch is back, too) tells Mason!
Now enough of the plot, and let's get to what's important here. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING warms my heart and gets me all giddy more than reading about Zeth and Sloane together. I freaking LOVE how much they have both grown, how committed they are to one another, and how much they mean to each other. And I realize I'm talking here like these are real people, but I can't help it! Callie has developed these characters in a way that you just instantly connect to them.
And this includes Mason, too! He is seriously a great addition to this gang (did I mention Michael is in this as well? God, how I've missed him) and I adored his character and the way he looks after his sister. It almost reminded me of a younger (less scary) version of Zeth and Lacey. His backstory just broke my heart and I CANNOT wait to see how his character develops throughout the rest of the series.
Callie has this knack for creating characters that just burrow into your heart and make you fall in love with them from the very first words out of their mouths and storylines that suck you in from the very first page. I am seriously ITCHING to dive into the rest of this series and see where it goes! It will no doubt be filled with crazy twists and turns, phenomenal writing, and heart filled moments.

Here's something you may not know about me ...
I motherfucking LOVE Zeth motherfucking Mayfair!!!
Or maybe you did already know that & are simply just shaking your head at me in disdain right now.
Needless to say - I adored every single moment that I was able to spend with my fictional man. Being in his brain is sometimes scary, but always heart (& panty) melting.
I also really enjoyed the introduction of Mason. Another fascinating character that I'm likely to fall in love with. His backstory and current situation are completely heart-breaking. I can't wait to see what's going to happen with him.
The one thing I didn't particularly enjoy about this story were the parts with Sloane in the hospital ... it's just so mundane & seemingly irrelevant. It really felt like filler vs. plot or character advancement.
While I enjoyed revisiting Sloane & Zeth in their HEA, I really wasn't sure how much more of it I needed in this book ... I'm really hoping the next installment focuses on Mason and the development with the DEA.
Despite the little speed bumps, I still really liked this one ... anxious for the next!!

I loved being back with Zeth and SLoane! What a treat it was to have a glimpse into their lives. We got to see Sloane in action while she worked at the hospital, and then Zeth in action beating the crap out of Micheal! LOL One of my favorite parts; I might add. During the guys sparring session, a young man is caught watching them, and is later revealed as someone who has broken into Zeth's gym.
This would be our introduction to Mason, and I have got to say that I fell in love with him as soon as I got a bit of info into what he has sacrificed in his life to take care of his little sister. I am totally sold on this guy and I can't wait to see what this new series is going to bring to the table!

3 -I'm underwhelmed, but not giving up faith- stars!
This was a little harder to rate for me.
After coming off of not only the high from her Blood and Roses saga, but also her Dead Man's Ink debut, I was expecting Callie Hart, to punch me right in the gut with some exciting and violent things.
Unfortunately, I was met with a short novella that basically was telling us how domesticated Zeth and Sloane have become. Boring! I also felt a little cheated that one of the chapters from her and Lili's series, Hells Kitchen, was put into this one as well. (I was wondering why this sounded so familiar...).
Granted we did get to meet Mason. A mechanic and underground fighter who is trying to survive and make ends meet with his young sister who suffers from seizures. I'm digging his character, but we were unable to learn too much from him...so far.
I get that it's just the beginning of this new series, and some excitement is to come, but I was pretty disappointed by what I read. Don't get me wrong, it was good, I just felt it left a little to be desired. Too short, not enough of the Zeth we've come to pant over, and very pricey for what you get.
I'm a devoted fan, and I am confident that things will get better, but I will say, I was still underwhelmed by it.

5 Zeth fucking Mayfair Stars!
I have been dying to get my hands on this book. Ever since Callie Hart's Blood & Roses series I've been waiting for more Zeth Mayfair.
I can see that this new series, Chaos & Ruin is going to be great. We get to catch up with Zeth and Sloane a little bit more in this book and I was not disappointed in the slightest. Zeth is running his gym, Bood & Roses, and trying to take care of Sloan while she is working her butt off at the hospital saving lives.
That man oozes sex. Oh to be Sloane and experience Zeth's black bag of tricks and treats. I'll be his angry girl any day. Man o'man, the things Zeth can do with a pineapple...OMG.
I've always loved Michael. He may have originally been a side character in the beginning, but he didn't stay on the sidelines for long. He doesn't talk much, but he has the mystery about him that draws you to him and makes you want to know more.
In this book we meet two new characters, Mason and Kaya. Mason is a young mechanic that works across the street from Zeth's gym. He's been secretly picking the lock at night and using Zeth's gym to train. That is until Zeth finds out about it. Mason is barely making ends meet with the money he earns as a mechanic and is taking care of his six year old sister. She has seizures occasionally. It was so hard to sit with Mason and watch his sister suffer one of these. He's such a good brother. He wants to learn to fight so he can fight in matches at night to earn some extra money, to create a better life for them.
Then he meets Kaya one day when she drops her car off, at the shop where he works, for repairs. Mason has to drive her to the university where she's studying. She basically forces him into talking to her on the drive over. He finds out that her brother is a well known fighter. Since he's trying to submerge himself into that world, I can see his path crossing with Kaya's more in the future. I can't wait to see where that goes.
Unfortunately, DEA Agent Lowell shows up and begins asking questions. She's going to be a pain in everyone's ass. She's after Zeth and is looking for anything to take him down. This series is going to be so good. *rubbing hands together* I can't wait for the next book.

I cannot believe how I missed Zeth and Sloane!
Blood and roses series is one of my very favorite series ever! Zeth is one of my favorite heroes ever! And still, I couldn't bring myself to read Violent Things! I was so silly to be worried!
The story goes on after the events of Blood and Roses series. In this first instalment, the plot is set up for this series. Although the book felt a bit slow in the beginning, it catches up nicely by the end. The story is said by 3 POV's (Zeth's, Sloane's and Mason's).
Zeth is amazing! He is still himself although he is in love. I love how Ms. Hart has written the in-love version of him without making him look weak or lost. Zeth is still someone to be afraid of! He is still dark and strong! And he still makes the choices he wants!
Sloane is a great woman. She doesn't balance anymore her world and Zeth's because Zeth and her world have become one. I really love she has accepted everything that Zeth is giving her.
The interactions among them were fantastic! I had forgotten the fire that Zeth can set on Sloane, how strong their connection was, how passionate and insane they are together. I was a fool for forgetting and thankfully everything was still here present. Sloane and Zeth together felt like going back home. I honestly missed them.
Mason is the new hero in this series. I cannot figure out if he is a "good" guy or a dangerous guy but he has enough personality to keep me on edge and make me curious for more!
Another part that I had forgotten was how Ms. Hart could left me speechless with her ending. I had gone crazy during the Blood and Roses series and I am going crazy now as well! The last page was inbelievable! It felt like the whole story was built for the last two pages and it was awesome! Yes, it was a cliffy!
I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loved Blood and Roses! If you haven't read Blood and Roses yet, then what are you waiting for? You should start immediately!

Once again Callie Hart manages to pull me into her world of black bags and dirty crime.
ZETH FUCKING MAYFAIR! OMGGGGGGGGG! This man has come full circle ladies and gents. He's changed so much after his Angry Girl comes into his life and turns it up side down, ugh I can't. You'll see this whole new loving and domesticated side to him (his words not mine lol). But one thing that will forever be Zeth Mayfair is the black duffle bag of sin *little devil emoji*.
We see so many beloved characters return as well. Like Sloane and Michael plus some newbies. One in particular named Mason Reeves , whom has stolen my fucking heart!! I love him, okay? And I know that Callie’s brilliant mind will cook up something fun and juicy for him. His unconditional love for his little 5-year-old sister, Millie is bound to make you swoon and your heart palpitate *sigh*.
I won't say more as to not spoil since the story is short, but one thing is clear: Things will not be easy for our beloved trio (Zeth, Sloane, and Michael) evil lurks in the corners and shit will get real. Come on this wouldn't be a Callie Hart book if shit didn't happen lol.

ok, need to point things out a bit!
I was engaged into this because I have heard of this lil (yet to be) fighter Mason Reeves and there he truly was, somewhere in the middle of the book, slow pacing towards the growing story (I loved the interaction between him and his little sister)in between the scorching sex takes in the realm that is Zeth and Sloane.
ahhhh that little world of their own (intense still) but maybe a little bit of tamed Zeth was a surprise...
anyway, I enjoyed it, read it fast despite the slow-ishly pace and I need more, I need more of Mason...LOL

Zeth motherfucking Mayfair and Sloane Romera are BACK!
Violent Things begins where Collateral ends: Zeth has just purchased his new gym, Blood & Roses after retiring from being an enforcer and Sloane is climbing the reputation ladder as one of the best trauma surgeons at St Peter's. Everything appears calm and domestic, but this is Zeth and Sloane's story.
Nothing is easy and drama ensues.
While you can read the Chaos & Ruin series as a standalone, I highly recommend reading Blood & Roses first. Otherwise the relationship between Zeth and Sloane won't have the same emotional impact.

If you're worried Zeth isn't the same Zeth we know and love, don't worry. He's still a deviant that exudes power and ruthlessness. Domesticity hasn't softened this gorgeous man. And his chemistry with Sloane is still as charging. Every scene between these two becomes steamier and hotter.
Zeth still thankfully possesses that black bag of endless delicious goods.
Violent Things introduces new characters such as Mason Reeves and his little sister Millie, as well as bringing back old faces including the annoying Agent Denise Lowell. Mason breaks into Zeth's gym, but rather than beat Mason within an inch of his life, Zeth decides to train Mason.
This story has an easygoing pace. And while I really miss the action packed scenes, it's sweet seeing Zeth settle down with someone he really loves.

This "book" was just not enough...85% yummy sex and not enough getting to know the stories forming and Mason.
I tend to lean away from books less than 200 pages so I guess it's my fault, and I absolutely will read all of the books in this series-I just want more, I'm a greedy bitch!

I'm still not over Zeth fucking Mayfair… that man is absolutely amazing. He had me at the knife scene, at the first angry girl line, he had me at every damn chapter pretty much.
Izzy: Girl me too!!!! After three or four years of reading these sort of books I met a lot of amazing men but none as amazing and mind blowing and breathtaking as Zeth mother fucking Mayfair. I NEEEED to be his Angry Girl for real. Literally no one and I mean no one compares to this man!!!!
Miri: Violent Things wow! I almost died when i got this book on my email. Shit, i was so damn excited i almost cried. My obsession with zeth goes beyond any other character I've ever read… yes i said that. lets get to the good part now

Miri: violent things picks up where the last one ended. (make sure you read all those seriously, go get them NOW) We finally see Zeth in a new environment where he is trying to get used to. being Zeth Mayfair has its advantages and disadvantages… there are people that still follow Zeth and want something in return, while trying to protect Sloan Zeth doubts himself… but he knows he will forever protect that woman that made him feel Love. Trouble always seem to follow these two. Cant wait to see more of Sloan and zeth. #zethsangrygirl4life

Izzy: Yeah trouble will always follow these two around, because we all know from the life Zeth used to lead it's hard for trouble not to follow him!!!!! But what was amazing was no matttter what, Zeth would always protect Sloane at all costs. And can I take a minute to explain just how much I love Sloane. She really is the only woman that can handle Zeth but she can handle herself too. She's a successful doctor and a fiery independent woman who will ALWAYS ALWAYS have Zeth's back.
Miri: i absolutely love Zeth, in this story he is a man trying to figure things out about himself and about the man he needs and wants to be for Sloan. I love how protective and rough he can be. I fucking love the way he still makes me anxious and horny. lol… seriously this man is one of a kind.. zeth can fuck you, claim you, destroy you, and love you at the same time. I love Sloan in this book more than ever. Sloane is loveable, loyal, fiesty, and a special kinda woman. A woman that makes a man life Zeth.... fall so deep and fast. The whole time i was pretending it was me ..lo not gonna lie. I will forever see pineapple in a different way from now on. Sloan and Zeth are perfect for each other.

Izzy: Zeth is different but the same. He is still alpha as fuck and he is still protective and the sex... Oh boy.... Is it normal that after a whole series of Zeth he can get hotter???!!! Sex on a cracker.... I mean he is indescribable. But what was different about him is he had a good woman to love, and so you saw that sweet side of him. I mean it peeked out of him in Blood and Roses but in Violent Things you defintley saw it more. And I am so so so happy that even though he has love Callie didn't change his character into a pansy saying I love you every five minutes. He is still HIM, and you didn't need words because every action he does for Sloane shows it!!!!
Miri: OMG! new character alert.
Mason Reeves, he is young, loving, a fighter, a brother, a Damaged soul, and a fine mofo. My heart was breaking for this man. He makes me want to hug him tight and tell him everything will be OK. I cant wait to see more of him on the next book. Kaya, kaya, kaya.. she makes me smile. she seems just what Mason needs in his life. these two will break and mend my heart i already see it happening.
Izzy: OMG Mason. I ADORE Mason. My heart hurts for him reallllly bad. I mean his life is just a mess, and all you want is for things to get better for him. Him and his "little mouse" made me shed those tears hard. He is what you call a real hero!!! You know if he could give his sister the world he would. If those chapters don't hurt you, damn you are made of ice. And Kaya omg Kaya.... We didn't get too much of her but clearly we will see more of her. She made me smile literally from the second I met her. She's the fun to Mason's broody ness. This series already has a lot going on and I absolutely need more after that cliffy!!!!! Callie you are amazing and thank you for bringing Zeth to my life!!!!

I would highly recommend for this author's Blood & Roses series to be read before reading this book.
This book is the continuation of Zeth and Sloane's story from the Blood & Roses series. It also features a brand new character, Mason, whose story is also intertwining with theirs. Michael also appears in this book.
This is actually a fairly short read and for me, 'the end' came about too soon. I was enjoying the book and getting really into the story when it just seemed to finish. I would have loved for the story to have been longer. However, knowing this is just the first instalment in this new series and that there will be more to come, I don't mind too much that this book ended to abruptly for my liking. Plus, the cliff-hanger this instalment ends on is a good one and I'm dying to know what takes place next.
The Blood & Roses series is among my favourite reads. I just love Zeth, Sloane and their relationship. I am so glad we get to see more of them and honestly, I don't think we could ever have to much of them.
One of the things I love about this author is the fact that she creates characters that are very easy to love. Mason is a new character and this being a short book we don't actually get to see an awful lot of him, yet he is loveable and I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of him in the future books.

Short, sweet and sexy. What else is expected of Zeth Mayfair?,
Poor Zeth. He tries to leave all that bad stuff behind and revel in his life with Sloane, but that dang Agent keeps coming after him.
I loved seeing Zeth come to terms with having a normal life. Not always having to be on edge. The slow pace of it all. And the mushy feelings that are taking hold of him as Sloane becomes more of his center. His world now revolves around her and it is THE sweetest thing to see. That transition from hard core criminal to domesticated man is the cutest and sexiest thing EVER.

And yet still kicking ass!
This book was great! I'm really liking Mason's character.
Prediction/spoiler alert:
4 stars! Not much happened so far, but I like where it's going. Callie Hart has yet to disappoint me!
