Hi, I'm Isla. I'm based in Germany where I live with my soon-to-be wife, our two cats and two horses. I'm quickly approaching my thirties but have enjoyed writing and bringing my characters to life ever since I was in primary school. Growing up, I've desperatey looked for any form of sapphic representation in every piece of media I consumed. I was in more fandoms than I can count and my list of (mostly non-canon) sapphic ships is endless. I live for the yearning, the longing and denial of oh-so-obvious feelings. I really enjoyed this book! I love crime books and i love romance books, and this one has perfectly combined them both! It had just the right amount of both genres to make the story interesting whilst also enjoying the romance in it.

When i say i love a slow burn romance, this is what i’m talking about! The romance didn’t feel like it was too over the top, and I really enjoyed getting to know both of the main characters individually as well as romantically. Their relationship felt natural and i loved watching it slowly develop throughout the story.

I also really enjoyed the crime/mystery side of the book. It kept me interested and gave the story enough suspense without taking away from the romance, which I think can be difficult to balance.

Had potential to be a great read. Both the romance and the crime investigation were plotted well and I mostly enjoyed reading it. I just wish it had been proof read properly as there were too many errors. People’s names being misspelled for example just pulls me out of the story. There were numerous other things that are definitely excusable if the author is not a native English speaker but just require a good proof read to fix. Strangulated instead of strangled, pledged guilty instead of found, reached up to the ground, and paying the ultimate prize are a few of the many I noticed but these all paled into insignificance compared to the use of mustered. The author used this SO much and from context must believe it to mean appraised but it doesn’t. Every time it was used I tried to work out what word they really meant. Anyone else know?
If you can skip over the mistakes it’s a fun read.

If you love slow-burn sapphic romances, I definitely recommend adding this one to your reading list! The grumpy x sunshine dynamic was so well-written, and the author did a great job balancing the characters' developing romance with their ongoing investigation.

I really enjoyed reading the tension between Riley and Sara evolve, which definitely helped keep me invested throughout. While the pacing felt slower in some parts, I also don't read slow-burns often, so this may be a personal preference. Overall, this book was an enjoyable mix of sapphic romance, suspense, and crime!

OMF I LOVED IT!

First ever sapphic law enforcement book I’ve ever read. To say I love it is an understatement. As soon as I finished I felt sad knowing I can’t read it for the first time again. Torres is probably my favorite character. Absolutely funny and had me laughing out loud.

I enjoyed this overall though a few parts felt a little rushed and predictable. I absolutely LOVED that everyone assumes the Inquisitor to be a man which readers don't question and then she turns out to be a woman! I've also not seen much sapphic crime fiction and so this was definitely a good find as soneone who enjoys crime books and sapphic books. Overall a good read, but I wasn't blown away.

Probably the best book I’ve read in a while. It has a great mix of crime and romance, and the love story never feels over the top. I flew through this book and didn’t want to put it down. 6/5 stars!
