I think was a good story my only issue is the author left some holes in the story that should be addressed. Mainly the FMC with her BFF Tasha. That betrayal was HUGE and I felt we didn’t really get closure on it. Now Rome the ex got exactly what he deserved. He was a narcissist for sure glad Navy found a REAL ninja in Lev.

don’t get the hype - with spoilers.
This was ok honestly. I read it because it was a number 1 recommendation but I don’t get the hype. For starters I didn’t care for multiple POV’s. Secondly the chemistry didn’t really pull me in, navy for one just was a mess. You’re a nurse literally you can’t leave a cheating a$$ man ?? Where was the parents everyone was raised by grand parents with no explanation. I didn’t actually see the build up to a relationship between Lev & Navy. Like there was no real dynamic of love between them neither were very likeable to me honestly. And Tasha got off way too easy for her grimy self. And also did her mom survive ? Overall kudos for a long story because I appreciate them but the character development could have been put to better use with a 400+ page story.

It's neither this or that but it's something
I don't do half stars personally but if I did this would probably be a 2.5 star book. The writing was not bad and the story mechanics was not bad so I couldn't in good conscience sit this at a 2. Ultimately the book left me frustrated. The deets:

This book is on Amazon labeled as Black Women's Fiction, Black and Urban Romance, and Urban Fiction. For meeee personally I would say the Urban Fiction fits the best.
🦿The romance narrative and pacing was deeply flawed and the romance narrative was missing for large portions of the book. Yes there is an HEA with the mains but we didn't get a solid romance narrative. Instead, the mains spent significant portions of the book either separate or with others.
🦿Women's Fic doesn't work because male characters do get a pov spotlight and the MMC E'Levyn or Lev does get "real estate" on page from his perspective.
🦿The Urban part is there, shaky but there. We had this great set-up "who shot my cousin? And will I be pulled back into the game?" But that was often not leaned into.

I wanted to read because I'm a sucker for disability rep in Romances. And this just doesn't have a very strong presence. For how heavily promoted the book is for the FMC to be an amputee I was left feeling disappointed we don't see this until the last 20% of the book. I just wish it occurred sooner and we saw the fallout and our mains moving like a couple. I kept expecting to see it happen.

Navy just made terrible choices from page 1 and did so consistently. Navy wasn't a bad character but she was always and forever focused on the wrong things. We start the novel and I was sucked in with the drama of her trying to get away and escape her abusive husband while kiki-ing on the phone with her friend about how she responded to a "woman to woman" situation gave me whiplash. Strong angst intro so I'm down. But was immediately letdown by Navy's poor choices in how she was getting away. Navy girl is worried for her life but focused on wigs, clothes and not checking her savings. Baby needs to be worried about her escape plan moreso than how she got her getback to the other woman. I was so shocked by her concerns I kept reading as an experiment to see how this would unfold. And it works as a hook. It introduces us to other woman drama and a no good man. It also hooked me into seeing how this could fit as women's lit.
Rome is the best character in the book regarding interest, pop, and characterization. Psychologically he got me with his pov chapter. He's absolutely terrible but his choices and methodology kept me wanting to read. I wanted to learn and know more about his terribleness. Unfortunately, we are given his great angsty situations but nothing is done with it by the end. So many of the street/urban elements weaved through him but we did not truly see it unfold or feel retributive closure .
Same with Marv. I was shocked how his character took a turn and why. We just didn't get proper pulled threads there. He has this drastic change but without followup on the crime/street aspect it felt left behind.
And again with Tasha a major bomb drops with her being a snake and yet no fallout. She doesn't even go into full truth of what she did to Navy. I was waiting to see a comeuppance but it never came! But wait same for Ashley who had some Other Woman pop-up drama but we never hear from her again. I was actually worried what next so she feels like a hanging thread. With the type of dirt they were all doing I was hoping for an ending that felt cathartic.

Miss Navy done been through it! That raggedy ass Rome was terrible, and I hated that she didn't leave him sooner. But, like Lulu said, she had to leave when she was ready.
Starting at the end of the story, and reliving it through Navy was exciting, cause girl....🤯😮 Navy had her head on straight determined to get rid of that nothing damn husband of hers, but he seemed to always have the inside track of her moves before she did anything. 👀 Fed up she goes against all her morals to get the hell outta that house, and away from him. Well, that quick decision turned into a whole other thing! Now she has Marv and Lev in her life, while she is trying to keep everything together.
Rome is spiraling, Marv is paranoid, and Lev is using this opportunity to get closer to Navy. No one could have paid me to believe THAT was how Navy got injured, cause what the hell? 🤬 Then Miss Tasha! 😤 How did you let it get to that over some money huh? At the expense of your relationship with Navy, whom you claim to love? Whew... Navy betta than me cause chile the way she would have been cut off? Swift and Immediate! 🤬🤷🏿♀️ Loved Lev and how he didn't fight his growing feelings for Navy, with all that was going on with them. The way he cared and protected her was beautiful. Enjoyed this! 👍🏿👍🏿

A roller-coaster
This story was action packed from beginning to end. There were some many moving pieces, at times it was hard for me to keep up. I wish there was more resolution between Tasha and Navy. That deserved more. Also, I hate that Marv had to go out like that. There was too much that went untold regarding how Lev and Rome were even in the same orbit. I loved the overall story, but there was a lot of missing clarity for me. Overall though, Levi and Navy were meant to be.

I enjoyed the read but felt like I couldn’t ignore the gaps. With the betrayal of her best friend, go moved passed too quick with no repercussions. And I wanted to see more relationship development between Na and Lev.

My first read from this author, no complaints on her writing style (a few typos). The story had potential. However considering this was not a novella and a 300+ page book (kindle) the reader should not have as many questions as I did at the end! The main couple only really got together about 70% into the book and only after a significant event, so it was really hard to champion their love because it kind of came out of nowhere. Prior to this they had like 2 sexual encounters and 4 decent conversations where they got to know each other so yeah. The story had missing parts too, like did Paper do what they said he did and why - was Rome involved!! Why did Rome have beef with Lev and his cousin?? Marv seemed to have a personality switch, yes we know he was using ❄️ but it still seemed a bit disjointed. Then their other cousins what happened to them? We saw them at the hospital then at the wedding that’s it?! Where were they when Marv was spiralling and did they know what E’lyven was doing and how did Marv find out??! As for Tasha that betrayal was deep and I’m all for forgiveness etc but that didn’t even take place not really because Tasha doesn’t know that Navy knows… how does that work? And whilst Navy is talking about love with boundaries you still allowed Tasha to be part of your wedding!! How?! Yeah an ok read but definitely didn’t meet expectations from what was said by booktok!

The Cost of One Decision
This book had me hooked from beginning to end. S. Yvonne knew exactly how to keep the drama coming because every time I thought I had the story figured out, another twist had me sitting there like… “Now wait a minute.” 😂
The characters are flawed, messy, and constantly forced to make impossible decisions. I didn’t always agree with the choices being made, but I completely understood why they mattered to the story. It kept me emotionally invested from start to finish.
The chemistry, the tension, the suspense, and the emotional moments were all balanced so well. This isn’t just a romance, it’s a story about survival, healing, second chances, and learning that one decision can completely change the course of your life.
I’m purposely keeping this review spoiler-free because this is one of those books that’s best experienced going in blind. Just know… I was thoroughly entertained, and every time I thought the author had reached the limit, she proved me wrong. 🤭

E'levyn & Navy
This book starts with a bang! It's full of drama and mess from the very first page; Navy is in a fight for her life, and she's put in a desperate situation, which leads her to crossing paths with E'levyn and owing him big. Lev's devotion to the Navy was so heartwarming, but it was honestly hard to figure out where it came from. I could understand him being enamored with her, but they had very little romantic interaction. Again, yeah, they were sexually attracted to each other, but what did either of them do that would warrant love? And while this story was very entertaining, I was a bit disappointed because the way the author marketed this book, I thought Navy's disability was going to be the sole focus, and it wasn't. In fact, we only get to see that for a small portion at the end, which felt rushed.

This was good
How in the world did Navy not crack? Like seriously Rome would have made me end him a LONG time ago. Her heart was too trusting and empathetic. There had to be some deep rooted parent issues for real. She didn't even have a real friend but that is a complaint for another day. It seems as if everyone was out for themselves and guilt only came because of getting caught.
Now Lev, he was a straight shooter. Although he had a hard exterior his heart was sweet. My boy was tired of saving the ones that were stuck in their own way. He stood ten toes down for the real ones with ambition and drive. I personally would have got at Marv but also listened as he was only half tweaking. It was sad to see him go out like that though.
This book was a lot but I enjoyed every page and Navy getting free from all that she was going through.

Ain’t no way I stayed up to 2:30 am cst crying my eyes out because the last 25% broke my heart and mended it in the same book! My first read from Ms Yvonne and it won’t be my last! Navy girl you are that bitch and I’m so glad you had someone to remind you of your magic even when life tore you up! This book was filled with a few sorry ass niggas but it was that one that shined my man that it E’Levyn love him. Mr make it happen, Mr show ‘em how it’s done, Mr I’ll love you no what! Baby deserved every thing soft and everything that was strictly for her! Tasha had a hot place where the sun don’t shine, Rome and Marv too wasn’t shit Marvelous about that crack head!

AUDACITY
This book had nothing but audacity and just characters i wanted killed after the first 3 chapters.. Rome literally gave audacity a whole new meaning.. Tasha just ugh .. Marv lawd i just can’t .. Navy girl was a dingbat from beginning to the end.. Now Lev that’s a good man Savannah lol .. He was the only character that had some type of common sense cause the rest were all a mess.. Not a bad book at all.. If you want messy, toxic, and wild this book definitely gave it

I loved this book from beginning to end!! Baby.. Between Navy and Lev that had me truly engaged in this book! Now Tasha!! That Tasha had my skin boiling! I was so mad at her! I’m so glad Navy got her happy ending!

Movie Worthy
This is genuinely one of the best and most compelling stories I've had the pleasure of reading this entire year. Everything about this incredibly engaging storyline absolutely screams that a movie really needs to be made from it.
The intense drama, the shocking betrayal, and the powerful coming together of characters after a significant and unexpected mishap was truly everything I could have hoped for and so much more!
There are so many intricate and moving parts woven throughout this story that kept you completely captivated and thoroughly engaged all the way down to the very last page.

The story line was good but it feels like a huge chunk is missing. A lot of big parts of the story were quickly summed up where others that arguably weren’t as important received a lot of descriptive details that I didn’t care for causing me to skim.

I think her keeping the fact that she heard Tasha & knew was she did behind her back, to herself was weird.. even if she chose to forgive, she just didn’t say anything at all.
The relationship with Navy & E’Levyn was a nice slow burn build up BUT, a lot of their relationship built behind the scenes.. I would’ve liked to see more of their development after the accident, instead it skipped ahead months to her bday then again to the wedding..

great character development!
This story was built brick by brick! S Yvonne took her time with this one. She laid this story out and built it up in a way that I could not take my eyes off the pages! Well done! I loved it from start to finish.

Whew...this book stressed me out!!!! I have to be honest; I was very close to DNF'ing this one. The first 80% of the story was a very slow burn, and while I understand why S.Yvonne took the time to build the backstory and establish each character, I found myself wanting the plot to move forward much sooner. There were several moments where I caught myself thinking, "Okay...let's get to it." That said, I'm so glad I stuck with it because once the story hit that final stretch, the plot finally took off and everything started coming together. Now, let's talk about these characters. Marv desperately needed therapy, and watching him cope in unhealthy ways was difficult. Rome is easily one of the most infuriating fictional characters I've ever read. Every time he appeared on the page, my frustration grew. Tasha knew better but didn't do better, Monica needed to stop following the crowd, and Navy deserved so much better than the way she was treated throughout the story. The standout for me was Lev. His character development was beautifully done, and if there's one thing I appreciate in a book, it's watching a character genuinely grow. Lev made me want to keep reading, even during the moments when I wanted to throw the book across the room. Overall, this book took me on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed, I got frustrated, I questioned everyone's decisions, and at one point I genuinely wanted to fight almost the entire cast fictionally, of course. Lol While the pacing wasn't my favorite, the payoff in the final portion of the book made me glad I stayed with it. If you enjoy slow-burn stories with layered character development and don't mind waiting for the plot to fully unfold, this one may be worth checking out.

Beautifully Written!!
Let just say that a time was had while reading this. It’s a slow burn to me but a good slow burn. This read pulled at your heartstrings as no woman should have to experience any abuse. You felt the love in this read. Like you felt Nay pain and Lev anger. This was well written, keep your attention throughout and I look forward to Ceveyn book next.
- Marv was his own enemy. That nose candy’s play game with him. To be honest, his thought process was probably an underline issue that was unaddressed.
- Loved Navy vibe and energy. You can tell she wasn’t a confrontational person and when she love, she loved hard. She didn’t deserve how she was treated. Her actions had me looking at her side ways. There’s no way she thought she was going to get away from it.
- Rome irritated my soul. I didn’t like him from jump. His pride and ego was downfall. He honestly thought he was a gift to all woman. His actions left me beyond speechless. Ain’t no way he did what he did.

Let just say that a time was had while reading this. It’s a slow burn to me but a good slow burn. This read pulled at your heartstrings as no woman should have to experience any abuse. You felt the love in this read. Like you felt Nay pain and Lev anger. This was well written, keep your attention throughout and I look forward to Ceveyn book next.

**LOTS OF SPOILERS**
I’m unsure of my rating. I liked the book but the pacing was off and no real relationship building there. The first 50% could have definitely been condensed to make a better read for the rest of the book, there was decent amount of time on the 11 days, only one day mentioning “I care”, and the last few chapters were about love and marriage like wait how we get here. The author really tried to show the love in the proposal and vows but it was not giving. .
I felt like a lot of details were put into things that did not matter (them getting massages) and should have been put into the characters. For instance why was Marv all of a sudden a powder head? The purpose of Monica being her cousin? Idc what you say, my soon to be ex husband leaving your house late night is insane on any level. Navy didn’t even have a paragraph of questioning the reasoning. Did the mama get better from her betrayal? Also, where are the MCs parents? Both grandmothers but no mention of parents.
THEN the Tasha situation was not handled realistically AT ALL. If you’re going to treat her and the friendship different might as well tell her you know. I hope she’s not the love interest in Cev’s book. She does not deserve a happy ending.

picked this up and couldn’t put it down.
e’levyn started showing navy that he was interested and cared about her in small ways at first like popping up at the wherever she was, telling her to go home since she needed sleep, giving her advice, asking her about her situation and life story. e’levyn wasn’t looking for love and even though navy owed him a debt he fell first and hard for her. i loved seeing him tell marvin she ain’t to be touched or played with, loved the way he stayed by her side in the hospital and helped her through physical therapy. navy and e’levyn were two sides of the same coin they didn’t sugar coat anything regardless if it would hurt your feelings or not they always told it straight. they truly deserved the love and happiness thru poured into each other.
tasha need her ass beat, i wish navy would’ve told her that she heard the confession and then cut tasha off for good because regardless of you needing money for your mother fucking rome was inexcusable he didn’t force you and make matters worse you lied to navy in her face when she caught him at your house and you needed up pregnant by him, that shouldn’t of been her friend anymore. rome got what he deserved but i wish it was e’levyn that actually killed him

Perfect first pick
After a brief break away from books this was a really good way to reintroduce myself to my kindle. E’Levyn Days made me laugh, a lil nervous but not nerve-wracked, some pages I could feel Navy’s pain coming off the page, and a really good read. The car crash scene was tough to read and heavy on the imagination.
Navy was such a strong character throughout the entire book. I love that during her toughest battle Lev was by her side. She handled Tasha better than I expected but I 75% like how she did it.
Lev was an interesting character to read. I wasn’t sure what his angle was after he pieced together what Navy had done, but I certainly enjoyed the journey to where it landed.
Marv, his death actually made me feel a little sad. Drugs will absolutely rob you of your soul. Please don’t do drugs.
Monica, holy crap did not see that correlation happening. Handled it very much like an adult classy lady.
Tasha, why would you set your “friend” up with a guy you used to hook up with? I get that she was in a bind and I’m glad she confessed eventually. But you still didn’t tell Navy that you and him used to hook up back before you introduced her to him.

Yes E'Levyn
I was waiting for the time to see the love connection between Navy and E'Levyn. I knew how they met. All eyes were on Navy in that hospital room. I honestly didn't feel a love connection between her and Marv, more of just buddys. The perceptive wise street sense E'Levyn possessed put him right where he needed to be for the answers. He kept it to himself because he feared Marv would end her. An offer she couldn't refuse was given for her transgression. But, when I say this woman was about business and was getting things together within her eleven days. It wasn't planned but something developed between them with E'Levyn seeing a woman who wasn't dealt the best hand but didn't wallow but did what needed to be done. Her affiliation with Marv and Lev had Rome looking at her as an opp and Marv saw that tie to Rome as her setting him up. We know why his mind went there. Unfortunately, day eleven was what no one expected. It was bad for Navy, Rome and Marv. Life changed for all after this day but the survivors found strength in one another. I know we don't hate Tasha, but have we forgiven her enough to let her have Cevyn Nights or nah? Guess we'll have to see. Read this book!
