Welcome to the Druid City Bookstore Series from the author of the bestselling Portal Maintenance Series
Ancient magic has rules. But retail management has loopholes.
Brian Dolson just wanted a quiet weekend. After two years of running Druid City Hard To Find Book Store in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the pragmatic Army veteran has his life dialed in to a perfect, low-stress routine. He fixes squeaky hinges, organizes history books, brews free drip coffee, and manages a daily cold war between his aggressively psychopathic seven-pound Chihuahua, Brutus, and the neighborhood delivery drivers. It’s an ordinary, exceptionally sane existence.
Until Brian goes for a hike and accidentally rescues an unconscious, four-inch-tall pixie from the woods.
Lucy isn’t just magical; she’s chaotic, shamelessly arrogant, fiercely territorial, and entirely convinced that Brian is an ancient, mythical master of the earth. In her eyes, Brian’s old house is a sacred Grove, and his backyard patio is a supreme court of magical justice. Even worse? Under the strict, unbending laws of the Fae, she has officially claimed him.
Almost overnight, Brian’s perfectly structured world is hijacked. His dog is drafted as a royal war-steed. His oak trees are hosting a troll of a squirrel who rains tactical acorn arithmetic onto his enemies. Pixies are knocking on his backdoor demanding legal rulings over stolen tulip bulbs, and brownies are running highly organized scams for free generic brand soda.
But the real trouble arrives when a deeply offended, high-born fairy princess decides this "human impostor" needs to be put in his place. When the aristocratic Golden Canopy Court steps over Brian's property line, demanding impossible miracles and taking what rightfully belongs to him, they expect the mortal to cower before their glowing spears, magical lightning, and winding ancestral chants.
They grossly miscalculated.
Brian might not have a single drop of magic in his blood, but he does have an iron-clad understanding of liability, a cast-iron skillet, and a complete refusal to panic. If the magical mafia wants to wage war using ancient bureaucracy and rigid legal technicalities, they are about to face a man trained to handle hostile college freshmen haggling over used textbooks.
The High Courts are about to learn exactly how dangerous human paperwork can be.
Please be aware there is a little spice in the novel but not much
Welcome to The Druid City BookStore. The Court is officially in session.
Seriously irreverent. Delightfully fun. A statistions dream or a nightmare, trying to escape reality. A sentient squirrel conspiring with an air conditioning, loving pixie who is a literalist. Beware the puns.
I gotta say, Mark has a vivid imagination and manages to keep me amused throughout his tales of the cross species problems and love affairs of a pixie and her Druid. I look forward to more in this vein.
