Mary Elizabeth has been in love with her boss since the moment she started working for him. What she didn’t know was that billionaire Devlin Kent is hiding a dark and dangerous secret…Soon after taking a job as his personal assistant, Devlin introduces Mary Elizabeth to a sexy underground world of BDSM and dark erotica. Devlin‘s idea of a sensual playmate comes with strict rules that include swift punishments and hard spankings. At first she doesn’t willingly submit, but as Mary Elizabeth gets to know her controlling captor better, will she try to escape or submit to his sizzling hot lifestyle?Part 2 of this books is been published today April 2*Only mature readers 18 years or older should download this book.*
After a slow, innocuous, and rather boring start, where, the heroine, Mary Elizabeth's first year of employment as a PA at a law firm flashes by in a strange amalgam of disjointed episodes that seem to play little part in building either the story or the characters, other than reference to her instant infatuation with the dubious hero Devlin Kent, there follows a rather disturbing scenario, when out of the blue and with no discussion, he decides to make her his 'slave' and takes her to his penthouse for training. Her treatment at his hands is brutal and abusive from the outset and gets progressively worse. I'm not sure that 'punishments' that result in loss of consciousness from the pain, and require several days of bed-rest to recover from, are part of what is, apparently, a loving D/s relationship. The fact that his actions are criminal, and he is a lawyer who would risk not only his liberty but his career, seems to have been overlooked. Not for me.
No Dom/ sub relationship here. This is total Master/slave. I think it was truly over the top. Normally there are contracts involved and agreement on the part of both parties. He just basically kidnapped her and told her she was now his slave.... end of story. This guy makes Mr. Grey look like a choir boy.

4 stars I might have been able to give this book 5 stars, but there is a difference between how I view the BDSM lifestyle & how the author views the world. I, by no means, am declaring that I am correct...our views are just somewhat different. What happens between Mary Elizabeth and Devlin seems to be more of a Master/Slave relationship that should involve a mutuallly agreed upon contract with limits listed (because Devlin needed some!). Don't get me wrong - the book is erotically hot with some very naughty sex. I just struggled with a Dom that would force something on his Submissive. That's just me. Everyone knows I don't shy away from rape, but I prefer the bad guys to be the rapists. Mary Elizabeth Seabrook has had a really tough childhood but she overcomes her struggles and tries to make a life for herself. She works hard and shimmies into a great job that she is proud of. This is where she meets Devlin. Devlin pretty much wants Mary Elizabeth, so he just takes her and tells her how it is going to be. He introduces her into the "BDSM" lifestyle and guides her sexual exploration. Hopefully, her tough childhood isn't influencing her decisions and this is truly something she enjoys and wants. When I received this book, I did not know what to expect. The description didn't give a whole lot to figure it out, and I figured it was going to be a BDSM book. It was a lot more than that. Mary Elizabeth, coming from a terrible childhood finds herself a respectable job at a law firm. She is drawn to the hottest lawyer, but never acts on her desire. Devlin does act on his desire, and we learn a whole new side of him that is not seen in the office. I was not expecting it...and in the beginning was annoyed at him for being such a controlling freak. As the story progresses though, you do see their relationship grow to be a deep, loving relationship, and by the end, you just want to see what will happen next. I will be looking forward to the next chapter of their story.
Jennifer Saucedo does a great woman's character voice, but I did not like her portrayal of the men's voices. It did not fit the story for me.
I was caught of guard with the Dom - sub relationship. In my opinion it was not one. It was a dark book that I believe was supposed to be a master-slave relationship? The strangest thing about it though was that he just basically kidnapped her and told her she was now his slave and she just goes along with it? That left me confused as a reader and baffled as a woman. Was there some Stockholm Syndrome going on, low self esteem or a victim to previous abuse? I wish that was looked into more. With everything going on it left you wanting more to see what would happen next. I didn't want to put it down. I have a couple of friends who are into dark erotica as well and they both loved it So it's all just personal preference. I thought Jennifer Saucedo did an excellent job narrating this book. It's the best of her work that I've listened to from her.

Fast paced short novella. Fun story line. Master/slave relationship that went from 0 to 60 before you can blink an eye. The passion from the relationship is evident, the story rushes to the finish line leaving a cliffhanger. As Veronica got further into the story the pace slowed marginally, but still felt rushed.
Mary Elizabeth simply goes from employee to slave overnight by captivity. I feel a bit of Stockholm Syndrome going on. In the end she falls for her captor and relinquishes her control. I just wonder if it's truly what would follow in a case of captive slave.
Had a blast on the adventure with Mary Elizabeth & Devlin Kent what an amazing look into the world of BDSM...would love to read more of your books sometime...to have another adventure...all the best to Veronica Cane on your upcoming books! :) <3
***MAY OR MAY NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS READ AT YOUR OWN RISK*** I started reading this book because I enjoy D/s stories more than your normal romance. The book was written well enough but the character dynamic is rather bad. This is not a story of a good BDSM or D/s relationship. This is a story of a girl who ends up with Stockholm Syndrome from her kidnapper. A true Dom would never intentionally harm his submissive and would not take someone against their will unless that is something they had agreed upon and the 'slave' could leave at any time.
With that being said, I liked reading this book for the mere fact I wanted to know what would happen next. I feel though that the author needs to have a foreward explaining that this is not how a real D/s relationship works and that if anyone is in this type of relationship, it is not healthy or love and they need to get out.
He controls every aspect of her life and at the end makes her participate in a ceremony to "celebrate" their bond. He uses beatings and humiliation to keep her in line and the ceremony includes both these aspects. Book 2 will pick up with them traveling as he has renewed her passport at the end of book1.>

Nothing against the book other than the amount of violence this poor girl takes. This is not love. "If you left I would find you, and your punishment would be real bad" WTf!? She has absolutely no choice in this matter and it is just not for me. The sex scenes where very erotic but I was extremely turned off by the treatment of M.E.
Good story key my interesting rather a short and abrupt ending didn't make sense felt disappointed by it really spent over 4 hours reading to be left in the dark
I've read many BDSM novels from dark erotica to contemporary and I have to say that this one was slightly disturbing not to mention the tone of the characters changed and Elizabeth turned into a giddy teenage girl which did get annoying.
All things considered, it really does pull you in. Slightly disturbing as the story begins to unfold, it's difficult to put down because you just want to find out what happens next. There were quite a few grammatical errors, bad editing, almost like they have ADD but I was able to follow along fairly well as myself have ADHD! LOL
This book was so hard to get through. It really sounded like it was written by a 3rd grader. And the narrator!!!! Oh don't even get me started. Absolutely terrible. I wish I would've listened to the other reviews. It ended at 39% on my kindle and then the author gave us a Spanish translated version. What the hell! False advertisement. The heroine in this story was all over the place a was the epitome of a TSTL MC. I CANT BELIEVE I WASTED MY TIME! I'm so mad at myself for reading this.
I did not like the story. The idea of a coworker kidnapping his new slave was creepy to me. The transition to loving the H was not well developed, except for how attractive and accomplished as a lover he was.
Dear author, please learn about commas. The fact that some authors over-use them doesn't mean it's ok that you never use them. They have a purpose. Also, "I seen" is never grammatically correct, and it wasn't a singular mistake.
This is the story of a girl needing a job and doing what she is told when she gets it.There is not enough 'time' given in this story for one to get involved. She seems to go from getting a job as a secretary or something, then bdsm in just a few seconds.I found the narration by Jennifer Saucedo to be weak. It sounded like it was baing read, not narrated.I was given this book free for an honest review.
This is a not bdsm this is not how a Dom acts at all. The author has a very dark fantasy going. If they did it I don't think they could endure it. The rich guy thing I don't care how much money you have. This make safe sane consensual not even possible. Not a good read the 2nd book is even worse.
I gave the book five stars because it was so good but not happy that it ended in a cliff hanger and there's no Info about the next book which is upsetting. But if you like a little dirty dark romance this is worth the read
