The VP and his Pet

The second in the Valhalla Heathens MC series of books, this tale slightly overlaps and continues on the overarching story afflicting the brethren, their families and the MC tribe. There are themes of relationship grief, mourning death, violence and physical assaults, childhood trauma, emotional manipulation and faction war, so please check the content triggers at the start of the book.

Emma thought she had outrun the outlaw motorcycle club she was born into, the club that simultaneously caused her emotional scars but left her with the son that became her loving, shining savior. But when her life falls apart again and threatens her beautiful son, she returns to Heathen territory to beg for their safety. But what of her first love? What will the club think of their son? And is the club the safest place to be with tensions rising and a faction war on the horizon.

Trey/Gator Anderson believed when he went to prison that pushing away his loving girlfriend was the only way to set her free to live a peaceful and carefree life. But when he finds out she has been betrayed, threatened and that he has a little mini me, he realises that he needs to leave the past where it belongs and steamroll his way into becoming the family he has longed for.

War between rival factions, a president in a worrying medical coma, territory threats, found family problems and a tragedy that will rock the brethren and sisters. This story is tense and emotional and is written in a descriptive and realistic manner. I was frustrated at the antics of a particular character, taken in by the warmth of the tribe and gutted and intrigued at the end. This author has the ability to make me feel!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the hours of respite this reading has gifted me and thank the author for giving me the opportunity to enjoy the arc and provide my voluntary review.

Didn’t like this one as much as the first. Writing still a bit rough.

To start, I’m not a fan of secret babies (even though this h did try to tell him). The fact that Gator refused contact or communication with her after he went to prison might have been seen as admirable if he actually did have to serve 20 years. But he got out in 18 months! and never even contacted her. (Also, he would have known sentence length in the time frame while she was pregnant). So, he gets out and learns that she had a kid and he never does the math to figure out it might be his? Also, her dad admitted later in the book that the kid looked exactly like Gator and he had his suspicions but never wanted to push them together. 🧐 This did not make sense.

I did not like the whole “pet” and “daddy” kink.

Ending and set up for next book a bit clumsy and honestly, a bit cold hearted seeing as what happened in proceeding chapters.

2.5⭐️ I just could not get into this book. Not that the story was bad but the way it was written was just not for me. I am not a fan when an author relies on flipping through past and present to tell the story. That usually makes me stop reading but I wanted to see where the storyline was going. I understand that this is a newish author and it takes awhile to get the flow of a story. She really has something going with this MC. It has kept me reading just for the sheer fact that I want to see what happens next. Rock’s book is up next. Hopefully it will be better.
