Not even a sugar cookie latte can sweeten up grouchy Mitch Sheppard.
Clara Silverwood has been tasked with putting together a Christmas program with nothing but thirty kids, a plastic sheep, and a desperate need to prove her degree was worth it. Oh, and grouchy handyman Mitch, who holds contempt for her schedule and refuses to consult her checklist.
The night before Christmas Eve, the set still isn’t finished and the final dress rehearsal was chaotic at best. When a surprise blizzard traps the unwitting pair in the church, they have all the time they need to finish the set, but can they stop bickering long enough to get it done? With a gaggle of excited children ready to perform their little hearts out the following evening, Clara and Mitch will just have to make it work.
Who knows, with No Place to Go, maybe things will change by morning.
Halli M. Castro is the author of contemporary romance novels "Ocean of Sun," and "Love Is for the Birds," as well as the Christmas novella "No Place to Go." She enjoys birdwatching, illustrating fictional characters, and writing love stories.
Halli Castro has done it yet again! After releasing a novel over the summer about a couple of best friends whose love slowly takes flight, Castro dips into the Holiday romance genre with a novella that pairs perfectly with a sugar cookie latte, if you ask the FMC, Clara. Castro effortlessly blends holiday cheer with witty banter and chemistry that'll have you giggling and wanting to put up that tree two months before the proper holiday season. Mitch and Clara both carry their weight in hardships, but in getting to know each other, they remember the true meaning of the holiday season. All that was missing was the gingerbread cookie recipe! I'm so glad to be a part of Halli's ARC group and cannot wait for her future projects!
This is the second book I've read by Halli M. Castro, and let me say, she did not disappoint. I was hooked from page one and devoured this sweet Christmas novella in one sitting. The more I read, the more I wished I was in a cold climate with snow on the windows and a fire crackling in a hearth, because this book just makes you want to curl up and ignore the world. The characters, Mitch and Clara, were adorably sweet together. I looked forward to their banter with every flip of the page. Even more, I loved and appreciated the deeper message the story told. I would like to thank the amazing author, Halli M. Castro, for allowing me to be part of her ARC team. This book was such a sweet read. My only problem was that it isn't longer. I honestly wished this was a full-length novel so I could spend more time with those characters.
An overall sweet story, showcasing the need to not jump to conclusions about others. Mitch and Clara both needed to learn that being open, honest and vulnerable was better.
However, it felt a bit unrealistic to me. I was also not impressed with the feeling of disrespect in the opening about the store employee. As I read the story, I can kind of see why it was written that way, but it still didn't feel right to me at the time.
For some readers, this story may require a bit of suspending of disbelief, but for those of us wanting a romantic, cozy, and squeaky clean read this gingerbread smelling story had me up in my giggles. Oh, who doesn’t like a man in boots and hat? And a strong willed woman! So many fantastic vibes! Who doesn’t want to genuinely good characters snowed in? I enjoyed that Castro made such a fun trope in such a clean way. 5 stars! Will read again!
