Trish, Beatrice, Nick and Marek are relieved to be away from the citadel of the orphans. However, it's only a short respite. To reach the pillar which is their final destination they have to walk through a forest with flowers and vines which devour human flesh. Their other option is to cross the ocean but this is guarded by killer giants. Will they finally reach their destination and who will survive? I like the graphic description of the forest and how Trish and her team use all their skills to avoid the deadly flowers and vines. The frustration and the ordeals of the travellers and their terror of encountering death has been well depicted. My favourite character is Marek who is curious about learning new things and innocent but is always helpful.
