Ground Zero: Prequel to Numbered Series

“Maybe, when I’m qualified, I’ll be in a better position to change the system.”
Living their prescriptive lives in City 01, Aurelia and her best friend Marnee are learning how to be the best Med students they could possibly be, but it’s a journey that will test their strength, judgement and morals in a world that, as they grow older, seems increasingly unfair.

Ground Zero is Magus Tor’s stunning prequel to the gripping Numbered series.

A short introduction into Aurelila's life. A student about to become a Med working is going to face the most difficult task of her life. She's starting a new school where they'll ask you to do much more then take tests, or cure patients. The rules and instructions she knows she must follow unless she wants to failure herself, her father and her best friend. This is a very nice intro into this series and gives you an idea yet doesn't spoil what is to come in the following three books in the series. I definitely recommend this book.

Disclaimer: I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ground Zero is a prequel that gives you the background that every reader desires from an author. I give this book a resounding 5 out of 5 stars, which is very rare for me because i literally couldn't put it down. Granted, it is not a full length novel, and it is a quick and easy read, but the writing was practically flawless and really drew me in to the characters.

Aurelia is graduating from the institute and embarking on a whole new life, when she starts reminiscing about her time at school, and how she met her best friend Marnee. Tor brings the reader back and forth between graduation day, and the memories of the past and gives you the sense of these characters and how close they had become through all their ordeals. There were many times that I cried and felt compassion for these characters and their dreams.

I have yet to read the Numbered series, but I plan on reading them as soon as humanly possible after reading this short prequel because it was just that good and I need to see how Aurelia handles her thoughts about life, and the job she is given working at the most prestigious hospital. If you have already read the numbered series, I think you should pick this up to see Aurelia's motivation. If you haven't read the number series and can't decide if you want you , I suggest you pick up this one first because I can almost guarantee that you will want to read the next book to see what happens.

In a future society, by the age of eight, children are tested and sent to schools for their specialized vocational tracks. The first day of Med Worker Training, Aurelia and Marnee find each other and a deep and lasting friendship begins. But all is not roses and sunshine in this new world. Those that can not work, who are sick and frail, are injected.

As we follow Marnee and Aurelia through their years of Med Worker Training, we watch them deal with confidence issues, learn to study, have faith in themselves and find that Aurelia is unique in that her parents actually are involved in her life. Aurelia and her father have many talks through the years about things that upset and bother Aurelia.

This is a short book, but a quick look into what society could evolve into with specialized testing and training, euthanasia and select population reduction. It is just enough to get you thinking about this world the author, Magus Tor has introduce and make you want more. Great, quick read for any reader!

A terrific start to a series

The book is given by the author for my honest review.

Ground Zero connects the readers with Aurelia Cole, a Med Worker student in a futuristic society. It is the prequel to the Numbered Series and a great start to understanding what has made Aurelia the strong character that she is. There is a lot of pressure placed on the young students who start as early as the age of ten. Her friend Marnee has been with her since the beginning and have supported each other year after year. As graduation day approaches, can Aurelia make the most important decision so far in her life, even if it conflicts with her beliefs?
This book has tugged on my emotions, but it reads so well that it is highly recommended to others. Not only do you want to know more about Aurelia, you also want to know if she is going to do what she has set out to do in the last few pages of this book. I look forward to the other books in the series.
