Fun, heartrending and delightfully sexy. Catherine Gayle knows how to write contemporary hockey romance that is guaranteed to pull at your heartstrings with a feisty heroine and a fascinating complex hero.
Seven years ago Dmitri “Dima” Nazarenko made a tragic mistake which left him scarred and cost his best friend more than his career in the NHL and he’s never gotten over it. The self-loathing, regret and guilt haunts him on a daily basis. His only reprieve being the time he spends rocking and talking to his teammate’s colicky baby and when a certain feisty woman in a wheelchair pushes his buttons. And push them she does. Often.
London Hawke knows firsthand about untreatable injuries, after all, a freak hockey accident left in a wheelchair. But it didn’t take her independence nor her desire to live life to the fullest. Which is why she can’t understand and finds it hard to tolerate that a healthy man such as Dima won’t and hides his scars behind tattoos and his scruffy beard.
They love to fight and sparks of all kinds fly the moment they’re within range of each other. But when an unexpected bad weather front traps them in Dima’s house for a couple of days their arguments turn to frantic, burning need. After the snowstorm passes and the fact that Dima is still living in the past and London can’t shake the need to constantly be in control, will their bond be strong enough for them to find a middle ground?
The chemistry between Dima and London is deliciously explosive. They’re like matches to gasoline and the constant arguing, push and pull between them was enough to keep me hooked. But as with all her stories, Catherine Gayle gives us so much more than yummy sexiness between a surly bearded hockey player and a fiery woman who sees past his shields. Catherine gives exciting hockey action, loveable secondary characters, a hero that made me melt again and again and a touching story that made me smile, laugh and swoon.
Although Dima was introduced in the first book, we got to better know him in the previous one where despite his grumpiness I immediately knew he was good to the core helping and protecting Tori, taking care of baby Harper, but he was just so incredibly sad, closed off and lost, I really felt his pain.
Which was really great that London had no problems getting in his space. She’s just as stubborn as he is and wouldn’t let him distract her with their sweltering hot passion… too much.
I really liked how Dima and London’s relationship grew, how they both worked on their issues and compromised finding happiness together. Though I would have liked a bigger, hearts and flowers ending for them, I know we’ll keep seeing them in future books just like we’ve gotten to see and enjoy the guys and girls from the past which add another wonderful layer to this story along with the real life issues that are dealt with that make both plot and characters feel genuine.
I was ready to wrap up, but seriously every time Dima was with baby Harper I melted and fell in love with the guy more. Those were incredibly precious and stirring moments that deserve a second mention.

It’s an explosive sports romance complete with the excitement of hockey and snarky yet tender and sexy moments. It can be read as a standalone. Told from both points of view. Let me talk a little bit about what Ghost Dance is and what it isn't; Ghost Dance was a battle on several fronts and it was a very good and well written book, but if you are looking for a hearts and flowers romance this isn't the book for you. Yes, two people find their way to one another, however it isn't pretty and along the way they are forced to look hard at themselves, each other, and at the way they deal with the unpleasant things in their lives and both Dmitri Nazarenko and London Hawke have had a lot of unpleasantness in their lives. To be honest there were many times in this book I didn't like either of them very much and at some times both of them, but I was compelled by their back stories, by what they both wanted from one another and the fact that despite being miles apart they needed each other almost as much as they needed their next breath. Complex, chilling, and confrontational all describe Ghost Dance but so do emotional, hopeful and full of compromise...all of these things go in to making up this story and in the end two people begin to not only understand themselves better but they also accept that it is okay to let someone in and be happy.
Anyone who has read Ms. Gayle's Tulsa Thunderbirds series from the start has seen Dmitri and knows his demeanor can be a bit abrupt and confrontational. We've also seen a softer said to him when he helped a young Russian woman, Viktoriya, who got involved with one of his teammates. In this book we see a couple of different sides to him when he drops everything to help soothe a teammates colicky child, when he lashes out at a woman who pushes him to move on from his past and when he brings the closest thing he has to a mother to the United States for a mother's road trip. We see that there are many sides to Dmitri, but we also see that he is a man with deep, deep demons and those demons are keeping him from enjoying and living his life.
I really didn't know what to think about London Hawke from the start. There was no doubting she was larger than life, that she was pushy and liked to "poke the bear" so to speak and to be honest it took a while to see that while she is a strong, self sufficient woman that underneath she has some issues dealing with how her life has changed in the last six years. She puts up a great front, one many never see past but those closest to her see her cracks and one giant Russian man breaks through like the Incredible Hulk on a rampage.
These two verbally sparred a lot, well London sparred and most often Dmitri walked away and when they were intimate, it was very physical, a bit mad and out of control. Don't misunderstand they were both full into what they were doing, but it was not a sweet and loving connection. They both needed what they got from one another physically, but in reality they both needed more and figuring that out took some time.
I enjoyed watching Ms. Gayle pull back the many layers these two had and exposing their underbellies so to speak. Both Dmitri and London worked at hiding their emotions but the closer they got to one another, the more difficult it became to keep them hidden.
We saw quite a bit of Dmitri's teammates, quite a bit of hockey and met London's family, friends and co-workers. We also see the two people in Dmitri's life who hope that London is the person that can finally get through to him. It was a busy book, but each part was integral to the outcome of the story.
While not my favorite book by this author I wouldn't have missed this story for the world or getting to know these very complicated people. Ghost Dance is a highly unpredictable, intense love story and an excellent addition to this series.

Not only did I have the honor of Beta reading this book, but also it was dedicated to me... I can't begin to tell you how much I loved this book.. It touched me in several places of my difficult life.. I loved the fact that she incorporated Sled Hockey and disabilities into her book because many just focus on the sport and just the healthy perfect life of the players.. Authors barely focus on those few of us that play the sports we love regardless of our disabilities.. Dima like me has suffered a lot of loss, pain, heartbreak and disappointment.. having to live with regret and shame is not a nice thing to do.. at what point in your life do you let yourself be numb with pain and let your demons win? what will it take for you and your life to change? well the answer to that question is definitely London.. I've never met a heroine like her.. I loved her determination, her humor, her character, her strength and her willingness to help others.. there were parts of this book where I had to stop reading because it felt like I was reading a part of my life.. other times it was because I was mad at the characters and in others I just had too many emotions going on.. and that's when you know you've read a fantastic book.. Miss Catherine really did a fantastic job with this book.. Look past the disabilities and all of the medical stuff in someone and you will find someone who's just trying to be loved and accepted just as he or she is.. #NeverJudgeaBookByItsCover

This was another excellent book in this series!
Dima is a defenseman from the Tulsa Thunderbird but has trouble letting go of the past.
London used to play hockey until a bad hit paralyzes her from the waist down.
Dima and London met at a sled celebrity game where they're on different teams. Dima doesn't know what to think about London because on the ice she plays like on of the guys and is a shit disturber.
During a snowstorm London drives to the gas station, when she goes in to pay someone steals her van and who happens to be there? Dima! The weather takes a turn for the worst on the way to her house so they end up at his place....

So much more than a great sports romance

Catherine Gayle is my favorite author of hockey romance. She writes great detail about the sport aspect, enough to satisfy the major hockey fan, but woven into the story in such a way a non-sports fan will still appreciate. That said, this book blew me away far beyond the sports aspect. It showcased how talented a story teller Catherine Gayle truly is, and has me left a bit ho-hum about every book I've picked up since. In general, I've found Miss Gayle does an excellent job creating a distinct voice for each of her characters. In Ghost Dance, we have a Russian hero. Dmitri speaks in the broken English you'd expect from his character. When shifting to other characters, the voice and syntax completely alters. It seems minor, but these types of details really drew me into the story and brought the characters to life. The heroine is not your average romance female either. She is an intelligent, assertive woman who is wheelchair bound due to a hockey injury. London comes across slightly brash and demanding for part of the book, and I went back and forth liking her and thinking she's overbearing. However, as you learn more details about her character, her attitude makes sense. I often lament in reviews about authors not developing characters. London and Dmitri are probably two of the most developed characters I've read in a very long time. The reader witnessed growth personally and within their relationship, making the romance believable and enjoyable. I enjoy both of this author's series, but the Tulsa Thunderbirds tend to be grittier characters, stories, and during the sex scenes. Ghost Dance definitely lived up to that tendency. The sexy scenes were great and made sense considering the characters' personalities, delivering a good dose of heat. The obstacles and angst also felt believable and not manufactured simply as a plot point. This book was excellent and I can't wait for the next in the series. I highly recommend for any reader looking for a story with interesting, strong characters who don't fit the typical romance novel mold.

4.5 Hearts
Ghost Dance is the third book in the Tulsa Thunderbirds spin off series by Catherine Gayle. We have see Dima in the previous books. He is burly and foul mouthed. He also sticks to himself and won't party with the rest of the team. His most endearing quality is the baby whisperer. He seems to be the cure for colicky babies.
In this book, Dima has met his match. London is as feisty and strong willed as Dima and she refuses to let him wallow in the past. This leads to some very heated arguments. It also ups the s3xual tension tenfold!
So much anxiety and tension in a book usually leaves me on edge. It seems to work for these two characters and was not off putting. I didn't grab on to Dima as much as I would have liked. Not a top book boyfriend but overall a good guy. Maybe it was the language/cultural barrier, but if that is the case, then well written Ms Gayle!
The highlight of the book is the heroine. Could not be more pleased at how well written London was. Very few books offer up a person of different abilities as a character, much less a lead. London is in a wheelchair but it doesn't define who she is as a person or impede her self confidence. Challenges are addressed and the book goes on--not making a bigger deal about it than London does.
Great to see the rest of the team. This book moves the story forward in time and we get to see previous couples and catch up with their lives. The epilogue was insane! Can not wait for the next book to drop!

Flaws; we all have them, yet very few authors give significant flaws to their characters. Gayle is so great at giving us characters that have big, life altering flaws, and they still find love and the elusive HEA. It's always great to see how Catherine Gayle weaves a tale that causes the reader to fall in love with the MCs in spite of their flaws or maybe because of them, this book is no different.
We meet London and Dima, both are dealing with past issues in the only way they know how. She's a paraplegic, who was injured during a college hockey game. He's an NHL player who made a tragic mistake that changed his life and can't overcome his past decisions. They'll come to learn that neither one is 100% right in how they deal with the hands dealt to them, and they'll have to learn to compromise before they can move forward and finally get beyond the past and have a future together.
It's a bumpy ride to the HEA, but it's totally worth it. If you haven't read any of Catherine Gayle's hockey romances you should get right on that, both the Portland Storm and Tulsa Thunderbirds series will suck you in and make you feel like these two teams are comprised of your friends , family and book boyfriends. I can't wait for the next Tulsa Thunderbirds book (Rites of Passage), if the little teaser buried in the epilogue is any indication it's going to be amazing!

I can't wait for the next Tulsa Thunderbirds book (Rites of Passage), if the little teaser buried in the epilogue is any indication it's going to be amazing!

Catherine Gayle's Portland Storm and it's spin-off the Tulsa Thunderbirds are two of my favorite series, so I was so incredibly anxious to get my hands on Dima's story. (A HUGE HUGE Thank You to Catherine for the ARC!! It's so nice to not have to wait AS long.)
So here's where I'm honest. I loved Dima. From before I ever knew him. But I wasn't a HUGE fan of London. At least not at first. She came off as too abrupt for me. (Although in talking to a friend, she has assured me that it's more of an East Coast attitude, and apparently it's just too much for this mid-western girl!) But? I warmed up to her, and after about 20%? I was hooked on this book. Couldn't put it down hooked. Reading it at work hooked.
I loved their volatile relationship. (There's something so amazing about the passion involved in those types of relationships.) I loved Dima's relationship with Sergei and Sergei's mom. I loved the secondary plots of London and her para-pythons sled hockey team. (PLEASE WRITE MORE!!)
I feel like writing these reviews gets harder rather than easier. I am so attached to these (fictional) hockey players and I can't get enough of them! So much so that my reviews come off as minor-gush-fests! (But that's just more proof that you should go read - because you'll love them.)

Again.. An amazing book in this awesome series. You get to meet two extraordinary people going through a lot of past issues. You may think Dima is the only one fighting demons, but London has a few of her own.
London is a fixer and a fighter of all people, but doesn't realize the control she needs is for the past she's fighting..expecting others to change in spite of what they're going through, when she's unwilling to do that on her own. Dima calls her out on it.
Dima has his on issues to deal with, and comes across as a stone wall, when truly he is a loving caring person, but no one sees that except for London, and not on purpose..she sees past the wall and falls in love anyway.
This book was very good, and extremely hard to put down. The ending though?? Wow. Didn't see that coming. Just makes me even more excited for the next book. This is a must read. Don't pass this one up.

Dimitri "Dima" Nazarenko is a surly Russian on the Tulsa Thunderbirds that has been hiding his guilt under a beard, long hair, tats, and a gruff attitude for years. One poor decision changed his friend's life and he still has trouble coping with it. He keeps people at arm's length and cannot seem to move on.
London Hawke is a parapelegic sled hockey player. During a charity game, they develop some hot, not-so-friendly competition, but she seems to be able to see underneath his facade. And she decides to investigate it further whether he invites her attention or not.
He's moody, angry, and lost. She's fiery, pushy, mouthy, and sarcastic.They tease and taunt. She pokes at him unmercifully to get a rise out of him. When forced to spend more time together, they only react stronger. They drive each other crazy. He doesn't like to let people get close. She is obstinate and won't stop pushing him. They are volatile and unstable. They develop a pattern of fighting and f******, deflection, and running. She makes him lose control. She is stubborn and has a strong need to be in control.
Along the way they both are challenged and forced to look at their lives and their comfort zones.They have challenges, issues, and some drama to deal with. He needs to let go and move forward. She needs to face her own demons that she has buried. It is hard to truly love until you feel worthy of it, or to fix others without first fixing yourself.
This is actually my favorite overall story in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series. I was glad to get their dual points of view especially since they were not always forthcoming with their feelings. Even though the characters where strong-willed, volatile, and at times difficult, I actually liked them and their intense dynamics. It made it more significant and emotional when their vulnerabilities were exposed and they began to understand the need for some compromise. Dima was a big, strong teddy bear and I totally fell for him.
I enjoyed getting more with Hunter, Tallie, and baby Harper (Bury the Hatchet). Dima's role as the "baby whisperer" and his soothing Russian confessionals with the baby were so heartwarming and cathartic. We also got to visit more with Razor and Tori (Smoke Signals) and there was a tease for Drew's book Rites of Passage that is bound to be interesting.

What happens when you take a grumpy Russian hockey player and fiery woman who sees through the front that said hockey player has put up? An explosively good addition to the Tulsa Thunderbirds series!
Dmitri Nazarenko is haunted by the guilt he feels over a poor decision he made years ago that not only affected his life, but that of one of his best friends. While he doesn't feel that he should have any good things in his life, and he hides behind his physical appearance, namely his facial hair and his tattoos.
London Hawke has been through a lot herself over the last few years and for someone that could feel sorry for herself and shut down, she tries to live life to the fullest despite the challenges she faces. While she tries to come across as completely unaffected by the events of her past, there are lingering effects that only time will uncover and bring to the surface.
The attraction between Dima and London is unmistakable, but neither one of them is about to give into it. They bicker, they snipe and they are both as hardheaded as they come. Once they finally give in to the passion that has been building between them, is it for the right reasons? Are they giving in to their attraction or are they using it as a way to escape the issues they both really need to be dealing with?
Catherine Gayle has once again penned a story that touches on realities that are dealt with on a daily basis in the real world, has wonderful characters that have heart and deep down while they are flawed, they are really, really good people. This was a fantastic addition to the Thunderbirds series and after the epilogue that we were left with, I can't wait to read the next in the series!

Everyone needs a London in their lives. A person to bring them back from the brink. Someone to listen and offer comfort. Someone who understands. Catherine Gayle does me in every time with her contemporary romances. Turning the page I know that my emotions are in for a beating but boy do I look forward to it. I received a copy of Ghost Dance in exchange for an honest review. This is a story about how life can change in an instant. The happiness moment can quickly become a heartbreaking one. Dima lived it and tortured himself with it. He and London may not have always seen eye to eye but there was a connection between them mentally and emotionally before it became physical. So beautifully crafted that it will have you reaching for Kleenex but leaves you satisfied and inspired at the end.

He has never been able to get past his guilt. His heart is closed off and he doesn't believe he deserves love, happiness, and forgiveness.
London suffered a life changing accident. However she's not bitter or angry. She's on a mission to help others. Her newest "project" is Dima. She is determined to show him the past doesn't not always have to dictate your future. Dima and London have to both deal with issues and embrace life to be able a future together. I don't want to say too much but I really enjoyed this book. The author is able to intertwine real life issues while still writing an amazing love story!

This book starts off rough for Dima and London. Neither of them are particularly likeable characters with Dima being a gruff, guilt-ridden hockey player and London being a well-meaning but slightly bitchy sledge hockey player who now relies on a wheelchair to get around. However, the reader soon recognizes that they're simply putting up walls to help protect themselves from further damage, and you grow to love them both individually and as a couple through their many passionate exchanges. Generally I find the Tulsa Thunderbirds series a little darker than the Portland Storm and this is no exception, but doesn't stop me from rooting for a HEA in this enjoyable and clearly well-researched novel.

Catherine Gayle has done it again. I am in awe of how she constantly comes up with stories that are heartfelt and inspiring.

Catherine has an uncanny way of tackling huge emotional and social issues with incredible sensitivity as well as with a good dose of reality. In Ghost Dance she does not disappoint. Dimas and London are both fundamentally flawed through passed circumstances. Their ways of coping are very different but, together they find their way. Sometimes people need help they don't even know they need. All to often that help comes from unlikely sources.
Ghost Dance is an emotionally charged story. You will find yourself rooting for Dima and London. Hoping they will find their peace. The ending is nothing short of shocking. There was an audible gasp from me on that one! I can't wait for the next in this great series.

Dima is so gruff and dreamy. The opening is probably the best save-the-cat scene ever. If you don't love him instantly after that, you have a heart of stone.
I loved the push-pull tension between Dima and London, even if it takes a while to get to London's own vulnerable points. The author did a great job making the story so raw and emotional without crossing the border into whiny angst or turning super dark, like many similar stories.
I loved the Russian touches. I wanted Svetka to bake me bread, too :)
Overall, it was an MMMMM with 5 Ms.

Wow! Dima and London are explosive from the first time they meet. They get under each other's skin. Being together forces them to face their own demons to see what they can be together. An emotional ride. Great characters with depth! The book has an explosive ending leading to the next book. A first for Catherine, giving us a bigger lead in to the next book. It will make the wait for the next book even more excruciatingly long! Even though it is right around the corner!!!!

London and Dima just fit - they don't blend, they don't meld, and they certainly don't mesh, but they go together perfectly. London makes Dima think about things he doesn't want to, examine things he'd rather not and face things he wants to be hidden.
For London, Dima does the same thing, and while she is locked away, he brings things forward and makes her look at herself as well. They fit together, because they can't stay apart, and that is why their story makes you have all the feelings!

Ok this book was easily a 5 star for me. I devoured it. Could not get enough -- and that is exactly the problem -- there wasn't enough.
Honestly the book need one more chapter or at least an epilogue. It felt like things didn't quite wrap up enough. Almost to the point where I'd drop the rating to 4 stars if Dima wasn't so delicious or the writing in general hadn't been so lovely.

I really enjoyed London and Dima's story, but the ending was very abrupt. The story seemed unfinished because of it. Despite the ending, I do recommend and I can't wait for the Drew's story.

I loved it but....
Where is the ending? You can't end a book like that!!
I love hockey romance and this did not disappoint until the end. Dimi is a Russian hockey player playing for the Tulsa Thunderbirds. Many years ago when he was drunk he was in a car accident and his best friend who also played hockey lost one of his legs. He has never forgiven himself so he is active is charities for disabled athletes. He organizes a sled hockey game for charity and gets a lot of his team mates to play in it, in it he meets London who lost the use of her legs in a college hockey accident. They are attracted to each other but all they do is fight, it all comes to a head when London's car is stolen from a gas station while Dima is there but the weather is too bad to take her anywhere but his house and they get snowed in for a couple of days.
The thing wrong with the end is there isnt one, somebody gets taken off the ice on a stretcher, you turn the page, there is the team roster, no end of game, no further info, no wedding? Etc??? Very confusing???

I don't know how I missed this entry in the Tulsa Thunderbirds series. I've read the books before and after but not this one. Once again, Catherine Gayle has done a great job of telling the story against the backdrop of hockey. The hero in this case is a Russian player named Dmitri Nazarenko who happens to meet a female paraplegic hockey player during a charity tournament.
They have a complicated relationship not due to physical issues but because Dimas is carrying around a ton of guilt for having driven drunk and causing his best friend to lose his leg in a crash.
Sparks fly between Dima and London as they struggle through their personal issues to get to the happiness they deserve.
As someone who has no interest in hockey at all, I have to say I love these books.

I loved this book primarily because of Dima - but then again I fell in love with HIM a couple of books back, I suppose. There's just something about him that makes you want to cuddle up, even if he's grumpy all the time haha.
London was a tougher cookie for me, primarily because I saw some of my own personality traits in her and - because I'm working on trying to correct them - it was sort of like looking in the mirror ... and we all know how THAT goes LOL.
STILL, that being said, I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and I'm loving the Thunderbirds!

This book is a great example of how guilt can have a toll on a person. We meet Dima in Hunter and Tallie's book when Dima has a special connection with their daughter Harper. They call him the baby whisper because when Harper is bawling for hours upon end, it's only Dima's voice speaking to her and talking to her in Russian that is able to calm the baby down. In which in talking to Harper and telling her everything about him is very therapeutic for him in a sense because only the baby knows the full truth about Dima. Dima has been having guilt for the last 7 years about a car accident in which he and his best friend Sergei were involved in mere hours after they had won the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Dima had gotten behind the wheel of the car after both guys where drinking and they got into a bad car accident, Dima was left with bruises and cuts which turned into scars, mainly on his face and Sergei was in worse shape, he lost one of his legs and is only able to use a wheelchair to get around. Sergei doesn't blame Dima for the accident because either of them could have been driving and it was his decision to get into the car knowing that Dima was drinking at the time. Dima, however, blames himself because he almost killed his best friend, the only family he has left. Dima meets London had a scrimmage event for people who are in wheelchairs with some of Dima's teammates in which Dima is hosting in honour of Sergei. They immediately don't like each other and have a lot of sexual tension between them both. London who herself is in a wheelchair after an accident which playing hockey injured her abilities to use her legs anymore. London ends up conning Dima into going for coffee in which she drives and Dima is taken back that she can operate a vehicle. While out for coffee Dima gets a call from Hunter that Harper is unable to stop crying, London drives him to Hunter's house in much hesitance from Dima. London sees how he is with the baby and gets fascinated with him on it. She wants to know why he wears his beard, why he covers his face with it. They end up meeting a gas station in the hours before a massive snowstorm takes over Tulsa, and while paying for the gas, London's car gets stolen and in which Dima offers her a ride to her brothers place because it's a few days before Christmas but the roads are too bad to get onto the highway and they go to Dima's instead. While at Dima's, Dima has to carry London up all of the stairs in which house every time she has to use the bathroom or wants to go to sleep. She relentlessly wants to know what he's covering his face for, and in which she's been accustomed to pulling on his beard. They end up sleeping a lot while London is at Dima's house for a few days. At one point they start to get into a fight and Dima gets up and walks out, walks all the way to Hunter's house barefoot in the middle of the storm to get away from her, in which he has to return because she can't go to the bathroom herself after a few hours had passed. Dima returns London to her brother's house after the storm and has no way to get in contact with her, he tries calling her teammates and work trying to get her number to talk to her but to no avail. He was able to get one of the young boys to come to see him with Wade, London's ex, and he gives him London's number. London finds out it was Dima who set up the fundraiser and raised money for the modifications that were done to her car to make it wheelchair accessible. Dima also shaves his beard in which he hasn't done before the accident because he didn't want anyone to see the scars on his chin and jawline. London also finds out she's pregnant with Dima's child and is concerned about being able to take the baby to term with being in a wheelchair. Dima comes to terms with the accident knowing that it would have happened either way and it wasn't his fault, London embraces herself that she is still alive and lives life to the fullest and doesn't take shit from anymore and doesn't back down from a challenge.
I think everyone needs a little bit of London in their life, to push them and encourage them to be themselves which means embracing all of their flaws. Once again Catherine Gayle plunges us into the world of hockey with two strong and stubborn characters who clash together like a freak thunderstorm.
Dmitri "Dima" Nazarenko made one huge mistake, for which he feels he has not yet atoned for. He feels guilty and is unable to forgive himself for hurting his best friend, to whom he feels he owes everything he has, mainly his family and his career. Dima tries to hide his scars behind facial hair and tattoos but still cannot get over his self-loathing.
Since the first Tulsa Thunderbird book, Dima has been portrayed as a bad boy, commencing from his marked interest in sexual gratification rather than closeness and commitment in his relationships. His deeds however say otherwise. He is the only one who can calm down his teammate's colicky child, by allowing her to pull at his beard while he recounts his memories to her, in Russian. Dima is also responsible for organizing a fundraising game of sled hockey in aid of the local sled hockey team.
After being paralyzed during an unuaual hockey accident, London Hawke is immediately portrayed as a force to be reckoned with. She is strong and determined, cherishing her independence. When some very bad weather brings the couple together, they realize how fine the line between hate and love is. London is capable of threatening Dima out of his protective bubble and makes him forget himself.
On the surface, Catherine depicts Dima and London as being opposites - from their characters and attitudes to their way of life and families. However as we delve deeper into the book, some things might not be as they appear. I believe that the feelings of insecurity, of being inadequate and of failing someone common within the book allow the reader to relate to the characters. Everyone makes mistakes but not everyone is capable of learning from them or is able to let go and move on.
With this book,the Tulsa Thunderbird family is slowly being formed and shaped. The previous characters are determined to pop into Dima's life and the author also slowly includes more of the teammates. I lIke that Catherine Gayle has brought to attention a part of hockey which might not be that popular, that of sled hockey, while making the reader more aware of what amputees or paraplegic people suffer through and how big a change they would need to adjust to their situation.
While the book is extremely steamy, I am especially happy to have some heart-stopping moments, especially the cliffhanger at the end of the book for continuation. However, true to the other Tulsa T-bird books, I would not recommend it to anyone who has issues with vivid sex scenarios and bad language.
Dmitri "Dima" Nazarenko made one huge mistake, for which he feels he has not yet atoned for. He feels guilty and is unable to forgive himself for hurting his best friend, to whom he feels he owes everything he has, mainly his family and his career. Dima tries to hide his scars behind facial hair and tattoos but still cannot get over his self-loathing.
Since the first Tulsa Thunderbird book, Dima has been portrayed as a bad boy, commencing from his marked interest in sexual gratification rather than closeness and commitment in his relationships. His deeds however say otherwise. He is the only one who can calm down his teammate's colicky child, by allowing her to pull at his beard while he recounts his memories to her, in Russian. Dima is also responsible for organizing a fundraising game of sled hockey in aid of the local sled hockey team.
After being paralyzed during an unuaual hockey accident, London Hawke is immediately portrayed as a force to be reckoned with. She is strong and determined, cherishing her independence. When some very bad weather brings the couple together, they realize how fine the line between hate and love is. London is capable of threatening Dima out of his protective bubble and makes him forget himself.
On the surface, Catherine depicts Dima and London as being opposites - from their characters and attitudes to their way of life and families. However as we delve deeper into the book, some things might not be as they appear. I believe that the feelings of insecurity, of being inadequate and of failing someone common within the book allow the reader to relate to the characters. Everyone makes mistakes but not everyone is capable of learning from them or is able to let go and move on.
With this book,the Tulsa Thunderbird family is slowly being formed and shaped. The previous characters are determined to pop into Dima's life and the author also slowly includes more of the teammates. Catherine Gayle’s Ghost Dance is a moving addition to the Tulsa Thunderbirds Series. Hockey star Dmitri Nazarenko was living the dream until a terrible mistake changed his life. He is unable to forgive himself. He meets sled hockey player London Hawke who challenges him both on and off the ice. Ghost Dance is a contemporary sports romance that is suitable for adult audiences. It primarily takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
When I was in college, I lived with a couple of people that were on the wheelchair track/cross-country and basketball teams. They are amazing athletes and people that competed in the Paralympics. I have so much respect for them. Every time I worked out with them, they kicked my butt. Needless to say, I love that this story had sled/sledge hockey players in it. My roommate used to drive a lot, so I am familiar with the hand brake system in the cars that was mentioned in the story. Catherine Gayle does an excellent job describing the details that go with being in a wheelchair and playing a sport.
I love the characters and plot. It is understandable why Dima has a hard time forgiving himself. I adore that he is the baby whisperer for Harper. It was a good outlet for him before London came into his life. I appreciated his relationship with Sergei Mironov and his mother. Being of Hungarian descent and first-generation American, I could relate to the similar Russian culture. London is great. I like that she played college hockey and how that worked into the story. I love how she challenges Dima and does not back down. Both characters are likeable and grow a lot throughout the story.
The ending was a gripping transition into the next book in the series, Rite of Passage. I cannot wait to read it. If you enjoy sports romances with real-world issues, I highly recommend the Tulsa Thunderbirds Series. Catherine Gayle is an amazing writer whose books are difficult to put down.

Holy hockey sticks….Ghost Dance has got me tied up in knots! I have always loved Catherine Gayles’ hockey romances, but I thought I had finally found the one novel that didn’t jive with my taste. Thankfully she proved me wrong, Ghost Dance is everything a sport romance reader could want. It’s clear to see that Ms. Gayle is still keeping everyone on the move, the Tulsa Thunderbirds is an up and coming team filled with players who are trying to build a team, build a life, and build a name for themselves. Dima is a Russian hockey player, filled with years of self-induced guilt, pushing everyone and everything away that could bring pleasure into his life. In short time he finds himself trapped with a mouthy, pushy, noisy woman. London has been called many names in her profession, helping others move past their guilt or facing their fears. London is drawn to Dima quickly and digs her talons in, ready to do battle, even if Dima isn’t. Dima helps London with her family and learning to let go of control. London is the hope that Dima needs to overcome so much guilt and see the hope and future they would build together Chemistry is off the charts; explosive tempers, language barriers and a snowstorm combine to make an explosive start to their relationship. I love how Ms. Gayle set up the push and pull of their relationship; Dima and London are perfect for each other. The characters are so well developed and complex, the plot twists are jaw dropping. Each surprise is something that adds another scoop of greatness into this novel. I honestly didn’t think that I would “love” this novel; it pulled me under so fast. Ghost Dance could easily be my new favorite hockey romance by Ms. Gayle, she has me so intrigued for the next installment, there is no way to be disappointed in her work!
