Flawless//Broken

Rate this book
Barely escaping from her abusive past with a vicious face scar, 19-year-old Mia wants nothing more than to start over fresh in a big city like San Francisco. She won’t let anybody get close - not that anyone would want to.

But when handsome, ethereal Darius Montclaire rescues Mia from a nightclub sleaze, he pulls her into the world of Alchemists - where creating fire from nothing and making potions to erase memories is commonplace. Alchemy isn’t possible without Azoth - a holy energy found in the blood of female descendants of Nicholas Flamel.

Mia has the strongest Azoth seen in centuries. Darius craves her body, but when she’s assigned to be his Azoth, he learns to lust for her heart.

But Darius has a secret of his own. And Mia’s past won’t let her love ever again.

He’s flawless.

She’s broken.

"Never forget that we desire exactly what we can never have."

description

I. am. dying. Yes. I. AM. DYING! That ending seriously killed me! How can anyone expect to wait for the next installment? They say patience is a virtue...Well, can't CAN I FREAKING HAVE THE BOOK RIGHT BECAUSE I ABSOLUTELY HAVE NO PATIENCE be a virtue instead? *Cue tears* I just seriously need to get my hands on it RIGHT NOW!

"This is the first time she’s been able to really see the physical manifestation of her power.

This is the first time I’ve truly seen her for what she is - the end of my despair."

Sara Wolf has never failed me, and I guess it's no surprise as to why I loved Flawless//Broken. It's fresh, unique, and quintessentially promising. I just couldn't put this book down. I mean, how can I resist a hot alchemist that knows how to pull of a sexy ponytail???
"White blonde hair. Amber eyes so piercing and deep they’re like an owl’s. A face regal and handsome and deadly all at once, like a disinterested lion."

description

Well, damn. There goes all my sanity! Darius Monteclaire is the definition of SWOON.
"Darius is on the sofa, looking much more relaxed than yesterday in a blue blazer and slacks, his long platinum ponytail perfect brushed and his hazel eyes lit by morning sun. My breath catches - he’s surreal. He can’t be real. For a second I’m almost afraid to talk to him - he’s too beautiful for me to talk to.

He’s too beautiful to be a monster."

description

I especially admired the strength of Mia, especially after everything that she has been through. I also love how she tries to overshadow her fear every time something terrifying happens. And now that she's considered as the strongest Azoth, it makes me drawn to her even more.
"Bad things happen to good people...And bad people happen to good things. But the bad things and bad people don’t last, because nothing in this world lasts forever. Sometimes all you can do is just hold on."

Every character in this story intrigued and fascinated me to no end. I'm actually hoping that each of them would be given a story. Also, everything about this book made me want to fist pump the air. To say that the all the Alchemy talk is a big turn-on would be a massive understatement.

This book is superbly beyond this world--pun intended. I absolutely need to get my hands on the next installment!

5 SEXY ALCHEMIST STARS!
"Sometimes I’m afraid of him, sometimes I hate him, sometimes I’m crazily turned on by him, and more than often I’m confused, but one thing is certain - I’m enraptured by him. And I’m not the only one."

This book was very unique! I haven't read anything before that involved the elements that are used in this book, so I really enjoyed that.

Mia has had a tough life, and all she has wanted to do was escape, but it seems like more trouble has found her. Darius is strange, and crazy about Mia, but for numerous reasons. I really enjoyed their characters and the craziness that is the world they live in.

One of the things I was hoping would happen finally did, and I was so relieved and excited. I was hoping for more between Mia and Darius, but I suppose that will have to wait for the next installment. I cant wait to see them together again!

Also, I really hope something happens between Lake and Ellie. I think that would be so sweet! I love Lake, he is funny and loyal. I think I am also going to end up liking Vox, but I need to see more of him before I make a final decision.

I am legitimately scared of what happened at the end. That sounds crazy terrible. It left me worried (for the fate of the characters) and excited for the sequel. I am also looking forward to seeing more of the magic being used.

This series is NOTHING like the Lovely Vicious series, or her other books for that matter. There are magical elements, and creatures of some kind, and a whole world that exists within ours. I am admittedly obsessed with the Lovely Vicious series, and I love everything I have read by Sara Wolf (so far) so maybe I am biased but I absolutely enjoyed this book! It moved at a pretty face pace, which felt right to me, not rushed. I cant wait for the next installment.

I absolutely LOVE Sara! But this book not so much....it felt a little rushed and I feel like it didn't have Sara's personal flair to it. It had too many secrets and way too much brooding in every character. I think I will read the next one to see if I just need to get over the series debut hump.

More like a 2.5 ⭐

I wanted to give 3, but there are too many loose ends.

DNF@68% - I tried, but just couldn't finish. This book was all over the place. The dual POV made it hard to connect before switching to another head. The characters were under developed, and seriously lacked personality. It just didn't flow and was overall uninteresting. I guess I liked Ava, but that's about it.

I love Sara Wolf. I'm pretty late to the Sara Wolf party, but seriously how good are her books? Flawless//Broken takes second place in my favorite books by her. Only Lovely Vicious is above it.

I find very few flaws with the way in which Sara tells her stories, her books are engaging. They are unputdownable. Every single book by her I have consumed in a day or less. Flawless//Broken is no different. I was done with it in a very short time. Too short given the way it ends. Well not really the way it ends, but the fact that it ends.

The characters are they type that Ms. Wolf is great at writing. Sarcastic, likable, and flawed. The world that she puts them in could really be anything and I would still read them. The fact that Sara Wolf writes a rich world to go a long with Mia and Darius, a whole subculture is just icing on the cake.

I really am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I couldn’t put this book down. I didn’t have high expectations for this book. I tried reading Education of Alice Wells, but I found the writing style to be a bit too awkward for my taste at least. So I was disappointed in that book and the author as well. But since I adored The Lovely Vicious series, I really did want to give this author another chance. I wasn’t quite sure if I was going to like this book. The summary wasn't all that enticing. To my surprise, I ended up enjoying it a lot more than expected. The characters were just so well written.
I love that Mia stood her ground and was pretty awesome in my opinion.

“Excuse me? I'm right here. I'm not a damn object.”

(YES YOU GO GIRL)

Another dose of awesomeness...

“Men are disappointing. Waffles, however, can never disappoint you.”

(YES. YES. YES.)

Darius, he reminded me of Jack (from The lovely Vicious series) and the way he spoke and thought did as well. I love Jack and I grew to really enjoy Darius as well. I felt like Darius and Mia was kind of an insta-love/lust sort of thing, which I don’t like at all. And that was one of my issues with this book that I didn't like and I found it a bit difficult believing in their connection. But this world that the author build and all the other things aside from the romance made me overlook that issue. I also loved Lake, I just really adored him. I really enjoyed the writing. I can’t wait for the next book!

Interesting alchemy

A different supernatural world: this time with alchemists and zombie/ Frankenstein monster/ golem created creatures like vampires. They are called homonculous, or munkies, book would have been improved for me if they had a different name, for some reason it didn't fit in my view.

Main characters are brooding ancient vampire type figure and young damaged fierce girl with unknown powers. Setting up for a series, action not really resolved in this book.
