I'm Ali, and I write contemporary romcom novels about women in STEM and academia. I love cats, Nutella, and side ponytails. I'm also currently learning to crochet, so as you can tell I'm a super busy gal with an intense and exciting life!
I only use Goodreads as a reader, to review and hype books that I've loved (many of these book are ARCs received from fellow authors).
So i had read the bride from the six book. And it was so far so good until the spice scenes came. I didn’t like them. I think it was weird as hell ,especially with the tying/knotweed( im not sure how it translates in english) spicy scenes. Honestly it was disgusting and cringe-worthy. But apart from the spicy parts it was hilarious, funny and i loved reading it. I finished it in two days. I dont usually like the vampire x werewolf combo but in the beginning i actually enjoyed it in this book.
Book Review: The Bride by Ali Hazelwood✨ This was my first book by Ali Hazelwood, and while her writing style was strong and the storyline had potential, the pacing just didn’t work for me. It felt a little slow, and I didn’t fully connect with the characters—but maybe this one just wasn’t my cup of tea.
That said, I’m still curious about her other books and definitely open to giving them a try. Let me know which one I should pick up next! 👰♀️📚
6 books: Bride • Check & Mate • The Love Hypothesis • Love on the Brain • Love, Theoretically • Loathe to Love You Tropes: 🧪 STEM romance • Grumpy × sunshine • Enemies to lovers • Workplace romance • Forced proximity • Fake dating • Spice 🌶️
Okay… I think I've officially figured out my relationship with Ali Hazelwood. 😂
I LOVE the idea of her books. Give me smart women, STEM settings, ridiculously tall men, grumpy MMCs, banter, tension, and a little spice and I'm immediately interested. 👀🧪🌶️
But the execution is… very hit or miss for me. 😭
Some books had me completely invested, while others felt like I was reading the same Ali Hazelwood formula with different names slapped on it. And the STEMinist novellas especially reminded me that sometimes I need more development and less insta-everything.
That said, when her formula WORKS, it really works. 😂 The chemistry, awkward flirting, nerdy conversations, and those huge grumpy men secretly being absolute softies? I see the vision. 🫠❤️
Loathe to Love You was a mixed experience for me too — 4⭐️, 2⭐️, 4⭐️ across the three novellas — which basically sums up my entire Ali Hazelwood experience. 😭
So overall, 3⭐️ for the collection. I enjoyed enough of these to keep reading her, but I definitely don't think I'm an automatic 5⭐️-for-everything Ali Hazelwood girlie.
Still… put another ridiculously tall scientist on the cover and I'll probably be there. 😂🧪
So, The Bride was definitely a different vibe from Ali Hazelwood’s usual academia-based romances, but let’s be real—I still had a blast reading it! The plot twist wasn’t all that surprising, but somehow, I stayed completely hooked. And the reason? The dialogues. The sarcasm. MISERY. Her sharp wit had me grinning throughout, and the way she and Lowe interacted was just chef’s kiss.
Speaking of Lowe, Hazelwood’s heroes are always gentlemen, and he was no exception. The man regarded, respected, and loved deeply—just took his time fully showing it (as expected). But the spark between him and Misery? That was next level. Even when I had a good idea of where the story was heading, their chemistry kept me on edge.
And that marriage scene? When Lowe said, “How the fuck you smell like that?”( I hope I am not wrong with the exact quote😂) I just knew he had fallen hard. That moment made the whole book for me!
Romance-wise, it was smooth and well-paced. Hazelwood has a way of describing emotions that makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters. (Then again, I always feel that way when reading a good book.)
Would I rank it above The Love Hypothesis? Nope. But it was a fun ride, and I wouldn’t mind if she played around in this genre a little more.
Final verdict? The Bride wasn’t my absolute favorite of hers, but it was still a solid, enjoyable read.🌸
