Raising Godly Girls: Encouragement for Moms of 21st Century Daughters

Rate this book
A thoughtful, personal, and affirming discussion of how Christian mothers can influence and prepare their daughters for confident living in today’s culture. This conversational book for Christian mothers of daughters is offered as encouragement to deflect and defend against the contemporary culture that promotes harmful attitudes about the self, the body, the mind, and the soul. Raising Godly Girls acknowledges the cultural expectations of both mothers and daughters, and confronts them with biblical wisdom and Christ’s forgiveness. Chapters cover such topics as self-perception, influence of friends and parents, purity, influence of media, and more.

I had the opportunity to meet Deb Burma at a Women's church retreat weekend. I loved her message there and picked up this book. It is written so down to Earth yet filled with scripture. She gives you ideas on how to use each chapter with your children. It is written for girls but most things could easily be adjusted for boys. I would highly recommend this book to parents at any stage of raising their children.

What an excellent book to read as a mom with three young daughters.

Deb walks you through some pitfalls moms, specifically moms of girls, face and the best way to avoid the falls or walk through the falls. She provides a fantastic abundance of Scripture to help guide your parenting and give you fodder for your personal devotion time.

There's a wealth of prayer-guiding advice as well as advice for family devotions, spouse devotions, and mother-daughter devotions.

She also points out several areas where moms may be causing their daughters to suffer and what we can do to change our thinking and responses for the betterment of our daughters.

I marked up all over this book and will definitely be reading it again as my kids grow.
