This took me a wee bit to get into, I don't know if it was the writing style, or the short sentences when it came to their interactions, or the lack of feeling connected to them. But it felt stiltered.
It wasn't until about the halfway mark that I started to enjoy this, it flowed better, their connection felt more believable. And I'm glad I persevered with it. The last half of this book definitely has me interested to read the next book in this series.

Maybe 2.5 stars
I was so excited to try this book because the blurb sounded so interesting.
But I had so many problems with it.
The couple felt really flat. We were told how dark and dangerous Dean was but never really saw any of it on page. There was some alluding to his work with the military and other dangerous side jobs, but none of it was really explained. I think he was supposed to be over the top possessive, but it didn't make sense on page. Lily was fine, but apart from growing up in a small town (that she felt suffocated in but also loved so much that she had to return to) there wasn't really much else to her. I didn't even know what she did for work until half way through the book. I love seeing characters in the HEA at the end, but this one dragged on for a while. Almost spoon feeding the reader what we already saw on page previously.
The dialogue in this book was bizarre. Most of the dialogue did not have a natural flow and felt disjointed. At some points it didn't even make sense, like chunks of conversation were missing. There were also writing inconsistencies that were very distracting. I found myself flipping back through pages to see if I missed something.
The world building was very confusing. We see the comet fall in the Gulf and Pacific Ocean. The characters are fleeing from Florida and encounter a lot of rain and an earthquake when the comet makes impact. But after that, we just know of rain. I was expecting them to be dealing with mass amounts of evacuees but we never see any. I was also surprised that so much infrastructure disintegrated after the comets. Even in landlocked states, electricity and running water just didn't work anymore. We hear a couple of times of flooding in California and Florida, and of some earthquakes but that's it. I just didn't find a lot of this believable. I was surprised at how fast all local governments fell (we are talking two days). I would think with this kind of disaster, that there would be a much slower dissolution of government and infrastructure. This might be really nit-picky but after reading so much in this sub-genre, these detail matter. She also makes comments that she misses real food after a couple of days of traveling. Seriously...bananas in the grocery story are still good at this point. Probably still green, its not been that long!
Overall, this story just need more depth of characters and world building.

I easily dropped into the pages of the debut novel US, AFTER ALL, by Eliza Dixon. In terms of the new trend in writing styles—exhaustive repetition of words/sentences/scenes—that more than a few writers as of late seems to be more than eager to word vomit onto their pages, Eliza Dixon has managed to grasp onto the echos of the trend, refine it enough to soften those sharp edges, and deliver a post apocalyptic romance that left me feeling ‘lived‘ in the end of days through a novel. It felt organic.
US, AFTER ALL starts a bit on the slow side, allowing us to absorb the devastation, and the fractured trust between Dean and Lily—lots to unpack between those two. All the hurt, secrets, and especially Dean’s painful past. These two find redemption and their very hard won HEA along abandoned car strewn back roads and highways, peppered with folks wanting what they have—or just wanting from them.
Having just knocked off your training wheels, author Eliza Dixon, I say “Bacio Del Cuoco”, for delivering such an ambitious, easily ‘seen’ romantic adventure.

A second chance romance I could hardly put down. I wanted book 2 to be ready to go 😝 New to me author that will stay at the top of my Apocalyptic books list. I can't wait to see what happens from Rose's perspective.

The setup is a gut-punch: a comet is about to end the world, and the heroine's brother's best friend, also her one-week fling from the previous Thanksgiving, shows up at her door not to apologize, but to force her into a cross-country journey to safety before impact. It's a "captor as protector" premise, and the book leans all the way into that discomfort rather than softening it. The content warnings up front (kidnapping, implied assault, past abuse) aren't decorative, this is firmly dark/forced-proximity romance, not a cute apocalypse rom-com.
The book moves through a tense, dangerous first stretch before settling into a slower, quieter back half once the characters reach relative safety. The hero's difficult past is given real page time rather than hand-waved, and his arc from captor to genuinely (if possessively) protective partner gets more room to breathe than I expected going in.
Where it lost me a little: the heroine's emotional turnaround happens fast, and the book doesn't spend much time interrogating that whiplash, it's framed as romantic inevitability more than something either character sits with. The dialogue also leans on a handful of repeated verbal tics that got noticeable by the midpoint. But the quieter, more domestic stretch later in the book is genuinely the strongest material, small, hard-won tenderness that earns itself after everything that comes before.

As someone who really enjoys apocalyptic and dystopian stories, I was excited to dive into Us After All. The premise was intriguing and had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, the execution didn’t quite work for me.
My biggest struggle was connecting with the characters. I would have loved a little more depth and development, both in the characters themselves and in their relationships. I think the MMC was intended to come across as the dominant, possessive and sexy type of hero, but personally, I found some of his behaviour difficult to warm to, which made it harder for me to become invested in the romance.
I also found the writing style a little stilted in places, and the story didn’t always flow as smoothly as I would have liked. That said, I did like the overall concept and there were several elements of the plot that I wanted to more of.
I would encourage lovers of this genre to give this a go, it just didn’t land right for me.

One of my favorite genres is Post Apocalyptic & this didn’t disappoint! I was soo excited to receive this ARC. This has so many of my favorite tropes like brothers best friend, touch her & ☠️, forced proximity, second chance and fake marriage. I will say the first part of the book, was a tad slow for me and I really didn’t understand the MMC & the FMC’s relationship, it just wasn’t clicking for me. But once I got more into it, I started to understand them better & why they were the way they were. It was about survival and there was tension among all the characters and crazy plot twists! One of my favorite parts was when the MMC said to “forget about your boyfriend, because it’s always been us.”🫠🫠 Highly recommend! & a special thank you to Eliza Dixon for giving me the chance to read this story, I’m excited to read more🩷

This was a really interesting read and a good debut novel. I will say there are parts of this that could have used work, but overall, I thought for a debut it was well done!! It hooked me enough that I will read book 2 when it comes out as the world Eliza is building is an interesting one.
Dean, our MMC, was such a great, strong character, I adored him. He has been through so much and didn’t deserve the grief he was given. However, he was strong enough and smart enough to stick the bad guys which we loved. I loved that he was all in on Lily.
Lily, our FMC, well she pissed me off a couple of times with her stupidity. I'm not going to lie, but she gets it together in the end, and that's the main thing. She just had a touch of nativity that in this kind of world is what gets people killed.
I am looking forward to book 2 and to see what happens next.

I love a good post-apocalyptic, dystopian romance, but unfortunately, this one disappointed me. I liked Dean’s tough and protective alpha male nature, but Lily was kind of stupid. Her naïveté and unreasonable optimism were tiring and childish. Furthermore, Dean and Lily’s relationship just felt off. There was a hardness to their relationship, and their interactions seemed cold rather than tender.
My biggest issues with the book though were the writing and pacing. The writing was very disjointed with lots of holes and jumps in scenes that left me utterly confused. At certain parts, it seemed like maybe some sections of the book were removed, which left the story feeling clunky. Additionally, the first third of the novel had promise, but the pacing slowed way down after the road trip was over. There was so little action that it was hard not to skim through to the end. This book was an enjoyable mix of romance and the adventure with the apocalypse.
Overall, I enjoy it and had a fun time reading. I did think the characters relationship in the beginning seemed a bit forced and fast. I know that some stuff was hidden from before the comet, but I would have like to see the relationship develop more. Though I did enjoy there dynamic and the fake marriage.
I enjoyed the growth the characters made throughout the stories and I think the DUAL POV was helpful with this.

I received this as an ARC. I absolutely loved the concept of this book! As a post apocalypse girly, a book done where it is a comet hitting put a twist that I was intrigued about. However, try as I might, I wasn't able to finish this book. The writing style was very choppy and the story seemed to not be going anywhere. The characters interaction was mid at best. I felt like the story jumped around alot, making it seem like I was only given every other page for the book. I ender up DNfing this book at 1/2 way.

Us After All is a unique blend of romance and survival that really came into its own as the story progressed.
The first third of the book was a bit slow for me. I struggled to connect with the relationship early on, and at times the dynamic between the main characters felt forced. I also found myself questioning the MMC's aggressive attitude when the FMC seemed much more willing to work together, which made it difficult for me to fully invest in their relationship at first.
Once the story found its footing, though, I became much more invested. The pacing picked up, the stakes continued to rise, and I found myself eager to see how everything would unfold.
My favorite part of the book was watching the MMC grow. Beneath his rough exterior was someone capable of becoming the man the FMC always believed he could be. Seeing him confront his choices, soften over time, and work toward becoming a better version of himself made his character arc the highlight of the story for me.
The apocalypse setting added an extra layer of tension, and the fake marriage and second-chance romance created plenty of opportunities for the characters to rebuild trust while navigating impossible circumstances.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read with strong character development and an engaging second half. Looking back, I think this is one of those stories that could offer an even richer experience on a second read. Knowing where the characters end up, I'd love to go back and see if I notice the emotional nuances and character development that I may have overlooked the first time.

Let’s start with the basics. This book has 53 chapters and each chapter is from a different characters POV. I also appreciate the Content Warnings page before the story begins so readers can choose to continue reading the book or not.
I’m not really sure if I’ve ever read a book with a morally gray main character before. Honestly I wasn’t really sure what that meant but after reading this book I 100% get it! And I have to say, it doesn’t bother me at all. I’d rather be with someone willing to fight and kill for me than someone who was apathetic towards me.
There is a book 2 coming which says it features Rose and Ryan. I’m not too sure I like Rose but even though he was basically not in this book at all, I did like Ryan. There are a few sections of the book that seemed a little overboard in terms of Deans……honestly, obsessiveness for Lily but overall I really enjoyed the book. I was expecting more scary, gory, terrified post-apocalyptic scenes. So far it just felt like this small area of the US was affected but not much more than losing power and people trying to run the town and be the big shot. Maybe book 2 will give us more survival since I’m guessing it will take place further out from the comet event than this book did.

Us After All by Eliza Dixon is an engaging post-apocalyptic romance that combines survival, danger, and a complicated second-chance love story. The world is harsh and unpredictable, which kept the tension high, while the relationship between Lily and Dean added plenty of emotional depth. Lily’s growth throughout the story was one of my favorite parts, as she becomes stronger and more confident while facing everything thrown her way. Dean is definitely a morally gray hero, which added another layer to the story and made some of his choices difficult to predict. The forced-proximity and fake-marriage elements worked well with the apocalyptic setting, and there were enough twists and action to keep me turning the pages. Overall, Us After All was an entertaining read with romance, suspense, and plenty of danger.

I love a good apocalyptic setting, add in a second chance romance, and I was hooked. Things happen pretty fast in the beginning as Dean and Lily travel toward safety. There was a good amount of tension and build-up. I will say I enjoyed the second half of the book more, maybe its because it took some time to get to know the characters' motivations to get more invested in their story. It's fast-paced and full of unexpected turns.
Overall, I thought it was a great debut novel and I'm interested to see how the series continues.

I love an apocalyptic book and this book hit the spot. Eliza did an amazing job at writing the world dealing with a disaster. I love seeing characters trying to take care of themselves. I loved that it read like the disaster movies I love so much. This was a fun read.

This was a fun read, especially as it's in one of my fave genres. I love that it's romance with a comet.

This is a gritty story, but also so well done.

If you love post-apocalyptic settings combined with top-tier forced proximity, Us After All delivers! One car, the end of the world, and two people with way too many unresolved feelings—this book hooked me from the very beginning.
The dynamic between Dean and Lily was incredible. He’s the ultimate protective, morally gray bodyguard who actually kidnaps her—and he would burn down what’s left of the world to keep her safe. Lily brings the perfect sunshine energy to balance his grumpiness, and the fake marriage trope set against a high-stakes road trip added so much tension and banter.

I think this series has a lot of promise, although I found it the book a bit uneven in places. After the first part I struggled to keep my attention, however it really shone when they returned to the mfc home town. The author managed to invoke a daunting and creepy air to what was happening there. However the two main characters then left, which was disappointing as I wanted to learn more, luckily the next installment appears to take place in that home town.

I love when Lily asserts her independence and tells her father that Dean is the one who protected her and that she is married to him. This scene shows Lily's growth and her willingness to stand up to her father, asserting her own agency and defending Dean.

I adore post-apocalyptic fiction, and enjoyed this one too. Dean is a morally gray character so be aware of that before reading. Also, I urge you to check the content warning for potential issues/triggers. Lots of action and plenty of twists. Lily was amazing with lots of growth.

I really enjoyed this story. It’s not often we get to read about a post apocalyptic with and romance blossoming within it. But Dean and Lily were awesome. I could feel Lily’s skepticism when Dean came back into her life. But he wanted to protect her and key her safe from the world. He did some questionable things for sure. But at least he did then to keep her safe. I really loved being pulled into this world with these two and seeing a connection form again.

SO much to love here. This had that end-of-the-world, semi-walking-dead survival feel. I think the momentum was good and kept me hooked. The only thing I had trouble with was the fast-paced dialogue. At times it felt like there was more dialogue than anything else, and perhaps I needed more in those moments.

As someone who grew up in the era of the post apocalyptic YA boom I had no idea what to expect from a romance novel with a similar seeing. This book moved fast and didn't stop. At times the story moved a little to fast, but that's better than dragging.

I didn't really care for the book and I feel like it was because I couldn't really relate to either of the leads. Dean is definitely a morally grey hero. I understand that they both have history that tore them apart, but them meeting again and their interactions just felt forced. The conversations felt stunted also. I did enjoy the depiction of this post-apocalyptic world though.

I really enjoyed this book. I'm really glad that it was a dual
POV so we could see that Dean wasn't THAT bad. Even though everything he did was for Lily at the end of the day. I love the way that the author was able to set up the world while still giving rich story telling. It just shows that the rest of this series is going to be just as good! Can't wait for Ian and Rose's story!
