Monuments of Syria: A Guide

Rate this book
Syria is home to some of the world's richest historical and archaeological remains--dating from the Bronze Age through Byzantine times to the Ottoman Period. Until now, however, they have been little known and rarely visited. Only a handful of sites are familiar from travel the Roman desert city of Palmyra, the Crusader castle of Krak des Chevaliers, and the great Ummayad Mosque of Damascus. This is the definitive historical guide to Syria.

Syria is so rich in archaeological treasures from so many different civilizations that things can quickly become muddled in my mind. This book is FANTASTIC and helps sort things out with detailed descriptions of all sites of interest. Includes historical background and significance paired with descriptions of salient architectural features. A guest once absconded (inadvertently?) with my old scruffy copy so I immediately replaced with a new one.
