Fated to the Night King

Rate this book
Sena survived the Silver Sickness—but it stole her ability to shift, her place in the pack, and the future she thought she’d have. When her Alpha sends her to spy on the Night King, ruler of the vampire court, she expects a monster.

She finds a man carved from shadow and devotion.

Alkan recognizes Sena instantly—something rare, something powerful, something his. As danger coils between their warring peoples, Sena is drawn deeper into his dark kingdom… and into a bond she was never meant to claim.

But secrets are rotting the shifter world from within, and Sena’s past is far more dangerous than the Night King’s teeth. When betrayal strikes, she must choose between the pack that raised her and the man who would burn the world to keep her alive.

A steamy, shadow‑kissed romantasy where enemies become lovers, curses unravel, and a fated bond could save, or even possibly destroy, their kingdoms.

FATED TO THE NIGHT KING is one of nine books in the Fated to the Enemy series, a set of steamy romantasy standalones, brimming with epic adventure, sizzling banter, and angsty yearning between enemies who have no desire to fall in love.

This was suchhhh a fun read.

I loved our MCs. I loved how strong our FMC was. I loved how protective our MMC was.
I loved to see their bond grow and how they both dealt with their pasts.
I loved that this was dual POV with a fated mates trope.
I loved the switches between POVs and the length of the chapters.
Basically I loved everything about it and would have loved the book to be longer.

This is fated mates done right! The MMC knows about their bond early and keeps her safe and protected, all the while giving her space to figure out her feelings in her own time. They never truly have an enemies dynamic, even though in theory they are enemies. But I didn't miss it because of how good their interactions are written.

Sena is a confident, caring true heroine. Worthy of a beautiful love story. The start of this book was hard to read. The way she is treated is horrible. It was hard to read and does require a trigger warning.

The Night Kings' castle feels like coming home. The people are nice and welcome her with open arms. The dynamic between the MMC and his folk speaks of an amazing leader.

This was a perfect standalone with an amazing FMC, MMC, and enjoyable side characters. The story was interesting, and I loved the ending.

I definitely recommend this fun, exciting, and thrilling adventure.

the first 20% had me thinking i wasn’t going to like it … especially since the book didn’t have a single content warning in sight

❣️this book was given to me as an ARC but in no way, shape of form does that influence my opinion or review. Every thought is my own: chaotic, emotional, unhinged but honest like always - & thanks to the author for allowing me to read this ARC❣️

let’s start off with the whole concept of being “Called”, it was a little confusing since i don’t think it was properly explained … from what we can gather is that it’s an opportunity for whoever is “calling” to use, abüse & force themselves onto someone - i gather this just from the interaction with Hugh & how träumatized Sena was but still didn’t want this one girl who hated her to go thru that

now Sena, she knows what’s going to happen, she herself is a shifter even if she can’t shift anymore, but she kwows how shifters are & … she decides she’s going to fight back when Hugh calls her? even if she fights dirty she HAS to know he likes that! he even says she knows this! so why play into it? i get it, she was tired of it but if she can’t do much she’s only making it worse for her … i was STRESSED but little did i know … she would be out of the frying pan & into the fire

which leads me to why i thought i wasn’t going to like this book the lack of a content warning … so if what we can gather about the “Calling” is what we think it is … imagine adding the pack Alpha, his guards, Hugh & another of the Alpha’s sons even though he didn’t “participate” but was forced to watch … & when Sena was fighting back he commands her to submit & take it … it’s not a graphic scene but you get the gist of what i am saying & i’m censoring it a bit … imagine reading that with no clue it would happen? now i know there’s discourse over if CWs should be in books & blah blah & i tend to agree we don’t need CWs/TWs for every single thing imaginable because shıt even roses could be a sensible subject to someone. but i do believe that the major CWs/TWs should be mentioned/added so a reader who can definitely not handle that knows ahead of time & decide what to do … i was caught off guard but mostly i was heartbroken for Sena but for a different reader the experience would’ve been WAY different

my next concern was i got halfway thru & nothing was happening, Alkan was showing Sena everything about his kingdom & trying to woo her in a sense but it got me worried that since nothing was happening, the end would be rushed - thankfully it wasn’t … much. the scene where the Alpha gets challenged i feel like needed more oomph … it went by fairly quickly & after all the shıt Thalon did … i expected more. shıt Hugh got his extended in a sense & it really wasn’t - also Sena shows him mercy & yeah … no girl … couldn’t be me 🙂‍↔️

Alkan has a huge library & i am packing my bags as i speak because i need that library so to the Night Court i go!

the Night Court has a traitor that was working with Thalon & when he’s gone, weeks pass & Thalon does nothing? like he’s not trying to check in on Sena, didn’t make a demand that he needed updates or anything? i found that a little hard to believe because Sena at this point is free & if she had chosen to forget her people what would he have done? nothing she would’ve been free! was there a deadline? a backup plan? anything???

despite my worries … i actually enjoyed this book! i had some issues with the pacing, some points that needed a bit more explanation & points were DEFINITELY taken off for the lack of CWs but some points were added because when Alaric confesses to Sena (who already knew) that they were mates … she accepted it & didn’t throw a tantrum & just jumped right in 💀 so thank you Sena!

I am proudly Team Jacob.

While in Fated to the Night King, the werewolves start as the bad guys, it's like many countries. It's the leader that's the problem.

Sena is a werewolf that can't shift, due to a disease that has ravaged her kingdom. Alkan is the vampire Night King, who Sena has been taught is the enemy. Which makes sense. In most stories vampires and werewolves are enemies.

Sena is sent to infiltrate the Night Kingdom, in something of usual romantasy storyline. Actually, much of Fated to the Night King is somewhat "usual" or "tropey." But what makes it different is that I FELT something. Books being 4+ stars for me are primarily based on how much I felt as I was reading.

And honestly, a certain predictability allowed me to focus on the characters, the relationship between Sena and Alkan, and the character growth that happens with Sena. How she learns to trust, and how Alkan really is as good as he seems.

Alkan is the Mamdani of the romantasy world. He believes in protecting and serving his people in a way that's expressed in more detail than I usually see in the genre.

If you're looking for something that is easy to read, enjoyable, a slow burn, fated mates, and some light political maneuvering, Fated to the Night King is a good time.

I received an advance reader copy of this book. The review and opinions are my own.

I received this as an ARC read and really enjoyed it!
The FMC Sena, is a part of a wolf shifter pack. Herself and others have been infected with the Silver Sickness rendering her wolf shifting and gifts gone. Herself and her fellow “stricken” are used and abused by the Alpha and the pack because they are “less”.
When she is compelled to be a spy in the vampire kingdom of the MMC King Alkan she is surprised at what she finds there.
What I enjoyed is that what you read is what you get. There is certainly mystery behind the Silver Sickness, but with this being a short story, you get to the point of things quickly.
King Alkan has been the villain and has been at the hand of others using him. He’s had time to heal from it and move forward. Because of his journey, he’s able to help Sena come into her own strength and confidence and find a home.
Krysta Fox stories are described as “short, steamy instalove stories”. This story is about 230 pages and it definitely as described. If you like an uncomplicated, straight forward romance with fated love, this is it. I appreciate that there were several opportunities for a miscommunication trope but never happened.

Fated to the Night King by Krysta Fox

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

❤️ She's sent to K*** Him
❤️ Touch Her and D**
❤️ He'll Burn the World For Her
❤️ Vampire x Wolf Shifter
❤️ Assassin Falls for Target
❤️ Forced Proximity
❤️ Forbidden Love
❤️ Only One Bed

"This rose is a reminder that beauty can bloom anywhere, even in the dark."

“You will always be my spy.”

This is my sixth read in the Fated to the enemy series and they have all not disappointed me yet and Fated to the Night King was top tier! I absolutely loved the writing in this one it was jam packed with all of the fun tropes such as enemies to lovers, slow burn, forbidden love, forced proximity and more.

What more is there to love? Also this has vampires and wolf shifters which makes it a perfect read for spooky season!

I love Alkan's character and his relationship with those around him also the slow burn between Sena and him is beautifully written. I always enjoy the idea of fated souls and fated mates! Sena starts off as an assassin who is destined to ruin Alkan's life but there is more to this story than meets the eye. I really hope you dive into this story as I rather enjoyed it!

Thank you to Krysta Fox for a lovely forbidden love story! I am excited to read more books by you!

It is interesting to find out how it will go for the heroine after leaving that horrible place where those in power take sick pleasure in torturing lesser people, the secrets behind the sickness, and whether will she betray the ones who offer her shelter and protection or get a chance to avenge those she cares about.
The beginning is horrific while reading what she has to go through, followed by relief at her being in the hero's sanctuary with some very supportive locals; it would be quite hurtful if she really betrayed everyone there, so I am hoping she will find her place and true loyalty.
The bonding between the protagonists is a bit different.
There is a good ending for them and those who suffered from the cruelty.

I loved this! This had such a perfect amount of hurt to cute ration. Sena went through it big time and omggg did my heart hurt for her and then she finally got a break from the bad and was loved and adored and tied to a bed like she deserves. So so cute. I loved how their relationship developed and not for the sake of being mates but because morals and having common ground. It was such a sweet story and seeing rhe friendships here too? It feels odd to call this cozy because there is a lot of violence and gore but I'm guna do it anyway! This was such a cozy read because Alkan was the perfect MMC. He really LISTENED and took things at her pace. Just chefs kiss.

Thank you Krysta Fox for the ARC

I have really been enjoying this series! This book is vampires vs wolf shifters, and target versus assassin/ spy. Tropes: forbidden love, slow burn, forced proximity, touch her and die, assassin falls for target, enemies to lovers and burn the world for her.
The Fmc is Sena, she is a wolf shifter who has been ordered to get close to the vampire night king. All Sena wants to do is save her people. Will she succeed or will the king kill her for the lies she has told?
The mmc is Alkan, he is the vampire king. He doesn’t trust Sena with good reason, she is lying to him. The he starts to see a different side to Sena. Which side is the true Sena?
Will they be able to save the sick wolves and themselves or will they continue to fight each other?

Two tortured souls, standing on opposing sides as natural enemies, yet bound together by twist of fate.

If there is one trope I will devour every single time, it’s Enemies-to-Lovers—and this book delivered in full! From page one, I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down until the very end.

This was a sizzling Vampire-Shifter romantasy packed with heart-pounding adventure, witty banter, and an irresistibly fateful attraction. A must-read! I absolutely loved every minute of it! 😍🔥

This was a great spooky, fall book. If you enjoy reading enemies to lovers, wolves, vampires, curses, and a mystery this is a great book. I loved seeing Alkan and Sena learn about each other and work together to make a more peaceful life with their friends and family. The cute nickname that Alkan gave to Sena made me happy. There were so many great plot twists that kept me reading to the end. Another great stand alone book in this fated series.

I absolutely loved this book, only putting it down when I needed to sleep or adult and go to work. The character building was quick but not in a way that felt rushed. The two characters were a perfect match and the way their relationship grew was well written. Would recommend.

Wolf shifters and vampires heck yes! The tension, the trauma responses, the longing, gosh everything was so well written I thoroughly enjoyed this. Even the mini mystery was good. Nice quick chapters made this an even quicker read as the last ARC I received in the fated to the enemy series.

I loved this story. Classic fated mates but the MMC carried no wickedness, the FMC carried no betrayal. There was no 3rd act breakup. This story was about healing and protection and a bond stronger than blood.

To get inside and spy on the Night Court—the shifters’ sworn enemies, Sena must endure a brutal beating at the hands of her alpha and his cronies. but when she brought to the Night Court, instead of the hatred and hostility she expects, she’s welcomed with unexpected warmth...and discovers a mate she never imagined she’d find.

"I've found a missing piece of my own soul in you, and there's nothing I won't do to protect you. I swear, Sena. You have my entire heart."

Sena is a shifter and a survivor of the “Silver Sickness,” but the sickness left her unable to shift, making her one of the Stricken, or a group often subjected to abuse by the alpha and his underlings. the early chapters are genuinely heartbreaking as we see Sena’s life under the cruel rule of this awful alpha and his equally horrible son. she’s endured years of both physical and emotional abuse, unable to fight back...😢😢 Please check the trigger warnings before diving into this book.

I love that Alkan doesn’t push Sena away after realizing she’s his fated mate, even though he knows she was sent to kill him. instead he keeps her close, protects her, and tries to win her over. I also like that Sena doesn’t automatically see the Night Court or the vampires as her enemies. from the moment she reaches the Night Court, they treat her with nothing but kindness...so much so that she abandons her mission as a spy from day one :'))) and I really love the chemistry between Alkan and Sena from the moment they meet. their relationship develops at just the right pace—not too fast, not too slow...the story flows really well and keeps me hooked! I also enjoyed seeing Sena finally confront the alpha and his son, the very people who made her life miserable for so long. though I think she handles things with a little too much kindness, considering everything they put her through😣 overall this is a quick, engaging read that's definitely worth checking out if you enjoy fated mates and shifter x vampire romance!✨

*Early ARC Review*

Sena was once a wolf, but now her blood is tainted by silver leaving her as one of the Stricken, a shifter that can no longer shift. In the Citadel, she works among others like her, tasked by the Alpha with scouring villages of the dead to find other Stricken. That is until the Alpha sends her to the Night Court with a new task; she must spy on the Night King and discover what the vampire hides. All too willing she goes, only to find nothing is what it seems in this court. Stranger still, is just how drawn she is to the vampire that rules the dark. Will she find the secrets he keeps? Or will she succumb to the silver in her veins before she can?

“Fated to the Night King” is the seventh book in the “Fated to the Enemy” Collection. This novel follows Sena, a Stricken shifter, as she becomes entangled in the politics of the Night Court and Alkan, the vampire King that rules it. Alkan knows far more than he is willing to share, making Sena’s task already impossible. Combine that with a bond she never thought she would have, and her understanding of her past and the life she built from its ashes is turned inside out. Her vulnerability was a strength that I adored exploring.

This arc read was a steamy, fast-paced romance with an sharp edge honed by rage and secrets. I was fascinated with the silver sickness plaguing Sena and her people. And the Nigh King’s past was such a treat to explore. Moreover, this book felt like a breath of fresh air. I loved how quickly the story unfolded and how Sena handled herself. My heart was broken and mended in equal measure. All I need is Gus’s cookie recipe and I'd be ready for what ever comes my way next.

'ey ruhum' ~ ‘oh, my soul’
I absolutely loved this addition to the Fated To The Enemy series!!
"I thought I was the one who gave orders around here."~Alkan "We let you think that, dearie."~Gus
I absolutely loved Sena and how she wasn't afraid to do what needed to be done and that she wasn't afraid to fight back, even when she knew she wouldn't win. I love that she cared so much about the other Strikens and tried her best to help as much as possible. I love how her goal never changed even after being with Alkan and getting to know everyone. And I love how she handled the Alpha and his sons.
I adored Alkan and how he was a fair King. I love that we learn why he's the way he is towards his people and that he tries tobbe a better person than who he was before. I love that he's so gentle with Sena even when he realizes she's the enemy (at first 🤭🤭). I love that he never pressures Sena about anything because he realizes she's been hurt before. I love that he's so devoted to her that he doesn't interfere when she's dealing with the Alpha and his son. And I absolutely loved the banter between Alkan and his 'closest friends' Danvers and Gus.
I loved that this book was more plot than romance, in my opinion, and while it was there, it wasn't the whole focus. I loved the way this book was detailed in everything and that it wasn't fast-paced and rushed. Overall a 10/10!! P.S. Valmont definitely got what he deserved 👏.

Sometimes, the very thing that makes you feel broken may be what changes everything! And this novella delivered.

Raised into servitude beneath a stolen crown, Sena becomes the first survivor of the Striken plague after being saved by the Alpha King. A sickness still threatening their existence and waging war across kingdoms...is there truly no cure or could Sena be the answer they’ve been searching for?

Sena was a strong FMC, though moments of doubt crept in as she struggled with the fear that her sickness defined her worth. Meanwhile, the chemistry between her and the Night King, Alkan, was undeniable! (3.5🌶️) I especially loved his nickname for her, “Little Spy.” While rooted in a heavy truth, it carried an endearing yet forbidden edge that had me hooked.

I thoroughly enjoyed the rich plot development, compelling character dynamics and the promise of a future neither MCS expected. The well blended story unfolded through retribution, buried betrayals and a journey toward cures and healing. Giving me a story that landed beautifully with Sena stepping into her strength while showing up for herself and her people.

I received this book as an ARC from the author! Thanks for sending it to me!

This was a very short, pretty predictable romance with vampires (is more than just the king a vampire??) and shifters. The shifters have an evil king who condones violence and SA, and a whole bunch of other jacked-up stuff; he chooses her to be a spy (unwillingly) to go into the Night kingdom and help take them down (directions unclear). But beating up your spy before you send her and forcing her to live in poverty, with cruelty their norm, does not make a willing spy. The king of the Night Court decides to win her over to their side (doesn't take much convincing), and lo and behold, she is his mate. They work together to make a cure for the silver sickness that plagues their land, fall in love, very easily kill the cruel king, and live happily ever after. The communication was on point and straightforward; everything went smoothly with minimal conflict, and the chapters were SUPER short. Quick read; it was entertaining but nothing remarkable.

Sweet vampire/shifter romance

A sweet fairytale vibe read with "Beauty and the Beast" vibes, with strong characters, a vampire king wanting the best for his court and a wolf shifter struck with an illness preventing her from shifting, forced proximity, magic, betrayal, sweet banter, slow-burn with care and concern, chemistry and a touch of spice, twists and a HEA. Easy to read with great character development and I have really enjoyed reading it.

Sena was among the first to be infected with the Silver Sickness preventing her from shifting and using her other shifter abilities. She and others (the Stricken) are used and badly abused by their Alpha and the Whole wolves in the pack, particularly his elder son. But when she's compelled to be a spy in the vampire kingdom by getting close to King Alkan, she's keen to find a way to help her kind but worries about how she'll be treated by the Night Court after all she's heard about them.

Alkan has a dark past but since becoming King he's worked to ensure everyone is safe in his court, and though he recognises that she's a spy he also can't deny that fate has brought him his fated soul and he'll do everything he can to encourage her to want to stay with him and become his queen … everything other than compel her.

They should be enemies-to-lovers but struggle to see each other as enemies with the bond growing between them. Alkan is slow and careful to help Sena heal first, but while she still feels the order from her Alpha and with a traitor in the Night Court, can his blood truly help her to fully heal?

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.5

Fated to the Night King by Krysta Fox is a captivating dark romantasy that hooks you right from the start. A 4.5-star rating is well-deserved for a story that builds such an atmospheric, shadowy, and secret-filled world.
What stands out:
Character Chemistry: The tension and dynamic between the main characters are electric. The "fated mates" trope is executed wonderfully, hitting the sweet spot between passion, mistrust, and slow-burn trust.
Atmosphere & World-Building: The Night King's realm feels vivid and deliciously dark—perfect for readers who love high-stakes court intrigue and dangerous magic.
Pacing: The plot moves quickly with zero fluff, delivering plenty of twists that keep you turning pages late into the night.
The only reason for knocking off half a star is a few familiar romantasy tropes, but they certainly don't take away from how enjoyable the ride is.
If you are a fan of dark romantic fantasy, this is a fantastic read that leaves you eager for more.

Another fun read in the Fated to the Enemy collection! This take on fated mates brings together vampires and wolf shifters, creating such an entertaining situation of forbidden love.

Both of the main characters were captivating, but I especially loved the growth of the FMC Sena. Treated by her pack in such a terribly traumatic way, she has to overcome both external and internal conflicts throughout the course of the book to grow and discover her worth. While it focused mainly on the FMC and MMC, the book did highlight some great side characters that add more interest to the book, too.

Overall, this was an enjoyable quick read with an interesting plot and likable characters. Plus, with vampires and shifters, it was perfect for the spooky season!

Sena is a shifter who is unable to shift due to a plague called Silver Sickness. She is sent by her Alpha to spy on the Night Court and learn what they know about Silver Sickness. Alkan is the vampire king who knows why Sena is really there so keeps her at his side. He was my favorite character. I loved him. He was a cinnamon roll and so yearny for her. Also A+ communication skills even when it was hard. Eventually they start to work together to cure Silver Sickness and fall in love. I liked this portion of the book the best. The story was fast paced but didn't really pick up until she got the Night Court, which makes sense once you read it. There are a lot of dark things in this story so please check your trigger warnings before you read this. The villains here are truly villains.

Review of Advanced Copy from Author

First and foremost I would like to thank the author for the E-Arc Copy.

I would also like to first apologize for my review being so late, I've been super busy with work and have had very little time to read.

Anyways moving on,

It was a fun little read.

Did I wish some things were expanded on? Sure, but for a less than 300pg book it was alright.

I enjoyed it for the most part, it wasn't like 'oh my god' good but it wasn't 'oh my god' bad either.

The characters were cool.

I did wish we got more of Alkans backstory and how life was like with the previous ruler but again it's a quick little 200+pg read.

I did like the twist with the illness thing, was unique.

It was very easy to read and fun little read.

All in all,
3/5 ⭐️

I enjoyed this book for the most part!

The first few chapters were difficult for me to get through due to some pretty intense on-page assault and attempted sexual assault, as well as implications of ongoing sexual violence. That kind of content isn’t my cup of tea, personally. And no content warnings meant I almost DNFd because I wasn’t sure if this was what it was going to be like throughout.

Butttt, once we got our girl where she needed to be, it turned into a pretty fun story! The MMC was exactly my brand of devoted and possessive for a paranormal romance, and the FMC had a satisfying character arc.
