A wealth manager walks out of his office, switches off his phone, and steps into a blind spot between two security cameras. He is never seen alive again.
His wife, Claire, has kept a diary for forty years. When the detective arrives, the notebooks are already stacked on the kitchen table — dated, ordered, waiting to be read.
But Claire isn't the only woman keeping an account of Marcus Hale. Across the city, another woman is keeping hers. And the detective closing the distance between the two accounts will discover that everyone is telling the truth — and no one is.
A sharp, elegant mystery about marriage, self-deception, and who gets to write the final draft of a life.
For readers of Gillian Flynn, Kate Atkinson, and Tana French.
Claire and Marcus have been married for over twenty years. Their life is happy and normal, the way most lives are…..until Marcus disappears. He just up and leaves his car in the lot and his phone is turned off. What happened?
Claire is left to write about her husband, her marriage and herself , but is anything she writes true? A stunning novel about little details in someone’s life that go unnoticed, and about a person who just wants to be seen. This is a must read. So well done.
I received an advance copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Really loved this one. The diary parts made it feel personal, like I was reading something private, and it made the mystery even more interesting. I kept guessing until the end, and the ending actually made sense.
I picked this up not expecting much and then completely lost my evening to it Smart, well-paced, kept me guessing without feeling manipulative. The kind of mystery that respects your intelligence. Would definitely read more from this author
Loved this book! If you enjoy mysteries that balance suspense with believable characters, this is definitely worth reading. Looking forward to seeing what the author writes next.
