Ruth Morgan Mysteries #3
The Steam Train Murder
One steam train, a clever murder, twelve improbable suspects . . .
When an old acquaintance invites Ruth Morgan and her grandson to take a working trip on board the Finsbury Flyer—a modern steam train with Victorian charms—Ruth is excited to look over the chef’s menu and give advice where needed.
However, before she’s had the chance to step foot inside the kitchen, a murder derails the relaxing getaway and turns it into a tragedy. It’s clear there’s a sinister plan in full swing.
With Ruth’s reputation threatening to veer off the tracks, she must use her amateur sleuthing skills to solve several puzzling conundrums: How did the killer reach the victim unseen? Who is the most likely suspect? And why has a seemingly innocent person copped to the crime?
The fourth in a series of absorbing whodunnits with a fun amateur sleuth. A light-hearted escape for fans of modern British mysteries and female detectives.

Book Review: Murder on the Finsbury Flyer by Peter Jay Black
Rating 5 Stars
If you're a fan of modern British mysteries with a touch of humor and a charming amateur sleuth, then "Murder on the Finsbury Flyer" is a must-read. Peter Jay Black's latest installment in the series is a delightful escape into the world of Ruth Morgan and her grandson, Greg, set against the backdrop of a vintage steam train.
The story kicks off with Ruth and Greg embarking on what was supposed to be a relaxing working trip aboard the Finsbury Flyer, only to have their plans derailed by a clever murder that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. As Ruth navigates through a web of suspects and puzzling conundrums, her amateur sleuthing skills are put to the test, leading to unexpected twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the very end.
What sets this book apart is Black's skillful writing, well-paced plot, and a cast of quirky characters that add depth and humor to the narrative. The setting of the vintage steam train adds a unique charm to the mystery, making it a truly cozy and engaging read.
Ruth and Greg's dynamic as a sleuthing duo is not only entertaining but also heartwarming, bringing a sense of lightness and humor to the story. Their interactions will have you laughing out loud and rooting for them every step of the way.
In conclusion, "Murder on the Finsbury Flyer" is a captivating whodunnit that is as entertaining as it is clever. Black's storytelling prowess shines through in this book, making it a standout addition to the series. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a well-crafted mystery with a delightful blend of suspense and humor. Five stars all the way!

Another fun entry in the series. In this case Ruth's old friend Hugo Finsbury has asked her to consult with his chef on his new endeavor: a replica Victorian train -- with all modern amenities -- that will travel from Edinburgh to Cornwall. And back. But things go wrong almost immediately. Hugo's old partner Miles is trying to get him to listen regarding design changes that may prove dangerous. Hugo invites him along on the maiden trip -- with a handful of other guests and benefactors of the project. And then -- there's a murder.
But not just murder -- there's a LOT going on and a relatively small group of suspects, all of whom are stuck on the train as it moves between the two cities. Is it a heist? Who's in on it: passengers, crew? And, as usual, though she keeps promising her grandson she won't take risks, of course Ruth does. Spoiler: it all works out in the end -- but you knew that. :)

Keep you guessing!
Funny how as young people we think old people (40 and up) can’t possibly do this or that. Then we are ”the old people” and shake our heads at the “know it all” inexperienced youths of today.
40 years ago I would have scoffed at reading about a 60+ woman doing what Ruth often does in these tales, trust me, we can!!
Great job PJB!!
Keep ‘em coming!!

Consistent excellence is the standard in this series. This book is deeply engaging from beginning to end, with an intricately plotted mystery, appealing characters, and surprising twists.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

I absolutely LOVE this series and now sad I have to wait until October for the next book in the series!! The Finsbury Flyer was another brilliant story in the series with twists and turns everywhere and more brilliant sleuthing from Ruth and Greg.

Funny but exciting
I'm definitely addicted to these books now. Some really clever plotting in this story plus the thrill of train travel. Glad to say (I think) that I've never had anything like that happen on any of the rail tours I've been on!

Couldn’t put this one down!
I love the Ruth Morgan books, and this is the best one so far. Ruth is an elderly lady after my own heart—she got fired from her job as a police officer, but nothing’s going to dissuade her from crime fighting! She’s an awesome character.

Good
Think Agatha Raisin meets murder on the orient express . In a very vague sort of way . Humorous murder mystery set on train . That's humorous in light hearted not laugh out loud . If you fancy a convoluted murder mystery then this is it .

A COSY MURDER MYSTERY . RUTH AND HER GRANDSON TRAVEL AROUND BRITIAN. there's a murder
Ruth always solves it. but its light-hearted not to be taken seriously, very easy reading no swearing. not blood thirsty. I'm now onto my third book .

Finding a killer on the Finsbury Flyer!
Book #3 was just as good as the other books in this series. I really did not figure out who the killer was! I enjoyed traveling along with Ruth Morgan on another adventure of solving murders!

Fast, fun read - funny & twisty
Fun series for anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries. Ruth is a unique character and her grandson Greg and cat Merlin are perfect companions.
Any book in the series can stand alone, but I recommend reading them in order. Enjoy!

It's good
She's reverted to the annoying one again so not as good as the last one, but I liked the train aspect and the amount of characters or suspects
We never really found out the reason behind it all apart from a ransom but no context

Surprising ending
Another relatively short read. Great characters. Keeps you guessing until the very end! Loved it. Read it. You won't be sorry.

So Good
I love train mysteries. This is one of the best. Modern day but with a few old fashioned problems thrown in. These books are so much fun.
