I really enjoyed this. The family drama was probably one of my favorite parts, especially because it feels like there are so many threads still waiting to unravel. This is very clearly the beginning of a larger story, and it left me holding my breath over several things that I’m now extremely invested in seeing play out.

I also really liked the slow-burn progression from rivalry to friendship to something more between Lexa and Valentina. The relationship had room to develop instead of rushing through those stages, and watching their understanding of each other gradually change was much more satisfying because of it.

What really sold me, though, is how excited I am for the rest of the series. There are enough unresolved relationships, family dynamics, and potential consequences here that finishing the book felt less like reaching an ending and more like being handed a whole collection of things to worry about for the next few months.

I’m particularly interested to see what Alycia does next because I do not believe for one second that we are finished with her.

Very glad the remaining books are coming out monthly through November, because apparently I live here now.

Wrong Colors by Lia Hart delivers a true, agonizing slow burn fueled by succession style family corruption and elite athletic rivalry. Lexa and Valentina's dynamic is dark, soapy, and intensely emotional, ending on a massive cliffhanger that sets up a sprawling series. Perfect if you love fierce ice queens, intense sports tensions, and plenty of dramatic wreckage.
