What would Maria’s life look like three years after The Destiny of a Galaxy? What about James, Quint, and Winter? This collection of four stories gives readers a glimpse into the romance, faith, trails, and everyday lives of this group as they each explore their Continuing Destiny. Approximately 17 pages (5,500 words) long.
Sarah Holman lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, Scott. When not working on her next novel, she can usually be found hanging out with her family, reading, or hiking at state parks with her husband. If there is anything adventuresome about her life, it’s because she serves a God with a destiny bigger than anything she could have imagined. This short story collection was a satisfying wrap-up to The Destiny Trilogy. ;)
Spoken Words Aw, my babiessss!!! You did exactly what I wanted you to. Thank you so much. :D On a more clear-headed note, I love how Quint told Winter to stop pretending she was Maria. God gives people different personalities for a reason. ;)
Changing Again This story was pretty sweet. :D I love how Maria is learning to embrace even the good changes in her life like And the banter between “the boys” cracks me up as always. *huge, happy grin*
Maybe Someday I felt a little bit sad reading this one. I hope Quint comes to terms with his early life and uses his testimony for God’s work. ;)
Broken Places I love this conversation between Maria and Winter about how God is healing and will heal them from the past. It’s an even more satisfying epilogue than all the cute, downright adorable friendship and romance stuff. :D
Altogether, this was a great, quick read! Please pick it up even just for the banter. XD
This is a collection that grew out of the question: What would the four main characters from the Destiny series, be up to three years later?
There is some romance (including a couple of kisses), there is some hardship, and some wounds that have yet to heal, but God still has a Destiny planed for these for, a plan that is continuing to unfold.
Okay, yes, it's official--I adore short story collections tied to series I've enjoyed! :D I pretty much giggled and sighed my way through this, the first two stories especially. It was great to see everyone working to put their lives and the galaxy back together after everything that happened. Here are my thoughts on the individual stories:
Spoken Words - 4 stars
Okay, I'll admit I didn't really see Quint and Winter as a couple at first, but after this story--I'm fully on board! The whole "I love you for who you are" theme was so sweet, and Winter's reasons for not wanting to make it like her past relationships showed a lot of growth in her as well. Absolutely darling.
Changing Again - 4.5 stars
This. One. Was. Just. So. PRICELESS!!! Loved, loved, loved the banter and the camaraderie, especially between Quint and James, but between all of them really. I love how Quint and Maria's annoying nicknames have become terms of endearment, too. :) And I could understand Maria's nostalgia for the past, even if those days weren't quite as bright as she pictured them. This one had a great message as well.
Maybe Someday - 3 stars
This one just...didn't really feel resolved to me. Maybe that was supposed to be the point, but I wanted some resolution to the hurt Quint hadn't yet dealt with. I definitely felt James's emotions as he was trying to encourage his friend to let go of the pain; I just wanted more of a resolution for Quint. :(
Broken Places - 3.5 stars
This one had an absolutely lovely message, and I loved the interaction between Winter and Maria. It was hard to see the scars that past experiences had left, but the perspective was healing and beautiful. My only complaint is that we still have the unresolved issues in Quint's backstory and how it affects his relationship with Winter. I just...really want to see that resolved. But still a beautiful little story.
Content--a few kisses; mentions of torture, scars, and resulting effects of traumatic experiences
After finishing The Destiny Trilogy, it was fun to sort of "revisit" them, and see where the characters were a few years past the time where the series ended. The short story (stories? They were more like chapters told from different character's POV's, telling a sort of continuing story) had a bit of a different feel to it, but still familiar and well-written. I very much enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend finishing off this series with this one! Adds a nice touch. :)
I'd missed Maria, James, Winter, and Quint, so it was nice to return to them for this short story collection. It's just as sweet and meaningful as The Destiny Trilogy, and I love it.
Anyone who enjoyed reading through homeschool author Sarah Holman's Destiny series will be as thrilled with this beautiful little novella story. We've all wondered what happened to Maria, James, Quint, and Winter after their grand adventures around the galaxy, and reading "Continuing Destiny" was just that chance! It was so much fun to read of these beloved characters all over again, now a little older, and all they've been up to.
Since this *IS* a very short story, Sarah did not fill in as many gaps as the real-true-fans may have desired {let's be honest...we'd all be happy if she would write generations of stories in this series for us!}. ;) But the overall continued story was well written and such a delightful read for me. The only little minor thing I could have wished for was more of Quint's story. Sarah only touched the surface of his past here, and I wanted so much more! She peaked my interest but I didn't feel she shared quite enough details and had barely gotten started when I finished the book. Oh well, we shall just have to use the imaginations God gifted us with! ;)
*And I'm TOTALLY in love with this cover art. *happy sigh* :D
I've been waiting for this forever... and then I found out, it wasn't what I thought. I expected this to be a book about Quint specifically. Instead, it was more just a continuation of what all the characters were up to. A little bummed that it wasn't Quint's book, but still really fun to see the aftermath and how their lives were three years later. Fun for a short, easy read to pass the time and reignite the longing for more books.
Very sweet! I loved seeing how my favorite characters were doing a few years after The Destiny of a Galaxy. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer. :)
I loved this short story collection! Anyone who has enjoyed the Destiny series from Sarah Holman, will certainly relish in these few glimpses we get to see of Maria (and the gang's) future life together.
The reader gets to find out how the lives of these 4 friends went on, the changes that took place, and how each one of our favorite characters grew from their galactic adventures in the trilogy. Really, it was a cool read. Perhaps there's a few sweet, mushy scenes in there... but someone had to get married, right?!
My favorite part is when Maria reveals the raw broken places inside her. We all have them. But this is a very poignant moment in the book, and shows how emotional she is over her past experiences (that the reader knows all about from the Destiny trilogy).
Overall? It's a short read, but worth it to find out how the story truly ends. Or rather continues.

“How do we cope with the brokenness in the meantime?” Winter asked.
“We lean on God and the people that He has placed in our lives. We reach out to help those who are hurting, and build each other up. We forgive each other when we cause hurt and offense. We pray daily that God would show Himself strong in our weakness.”
