Okay first, THANK YOU SO MUCH Keona Mistisshen for letting me read this book early!!!
I literally shrieked when I saw in my email that I got an ARC of this book! I cried so many times while reading!
Especially when we got the past POV's! 😭 I love Ollie so much!! But I also was giggling and kicking my feet at times too! Despite taking forever reading this book(all schools fault btw)! absolutely loved it!! Bryony is definitely one of my favorite characters I just love her chaotic loving energy so much! Of course I love Emmaline and Jasper too!! Gotta love a mystery with a subplot of romance! Also the plot twists definitely got me!

-🫑the subplot of romance is everything!
-Language: mild infrequent language(only 2 f-words, sh-t multiple times, etc but nothing in an inappropriate context)
-Age rating: 13/14+ in my opinion just depending on maturity

⤷ READ ITTTT. I finished it in one afternoon (one sitting actually). Okay now for the actual review:

⤷ I loved Emmaline. I think that her character was created with so much thought and effort that she felt very realistic. Definitely not perfect, but genuine. I quickly understood how she thinks but especially why .
⤷ The way her guilt about Ollie and Grant seemed to evolve throughout the book as she felt herself connecting to others, like Jasper and Bryony, was really interesting to see, as well as how she did actually take Jasper's words into account about dealing with the past.
⤷ The dynamic between Emmaline and Jasper was so funny, in particular Bryony's reaction to them bickering. I wish we could've seen just a little bit more of them, but of course it was a pretty short novella.
⤷ I loved being able to read the flashbacks of Ollie and Emmaline's relationship in 2019, especially while knowing how the night of the 4th of July ends. Honestly, if I were to ever re read the first book (which I probably will!), having gotten a deeper insight into Ollie and Emmaline would just be painful.

This has probably turned into more of a ramble than a review, but overall, getting to read this book early was so much fun, so thank you so much to the author!

First of all thank you so much Keona for giving me the opportunity to read your book early I really appreciate it and it was such a fun read!
Here’s my honest review and opinions about your upcoming novella:
I really loved your chapters that brought us back to the past since we didn’t get to see much of what grant and Ollie were like in TDOOK they kind of reminded me of Fred and George from Harry Potter. Also your quote “Grant would follow Ollie into a fire even if it meant getting burned along side him” absolutely tore me apart.
Secondly Emmaline was such a relatable character and she had good development she also felt very genuine and had good intentions I really wished we got more of the trio though
Bryony’s reactions to Emmaline and jaspers bickering were hilarious
There was a few misspellings I would go back through and check on for example page 131 you put at the world family instead of word
The cliffhanger you left me on had me literally screaming I was crashing out but I’m so excited for more of your books in the future and I hope you continue to let me read them early.
When jasper said all the things he knew about emmaline mt heart melted it was one of my favorite parts of the book
At first when I started seeing your books on my YouTube page I was like this couldn’t be that good but I’ll stick around and see and I’m so glad I did you have truly so much potential and I hope my review was helpful thank you so much for this opportunity!

I received this book as an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

My GOD. This was a beautifully written novella, skilfully delving into a dual timeline storyline while giving us a chance to connect with both sides of characters. The ending genuinely had me crying in the middle of a froyo shop. (True story, my sister asked me if I was alright LMAO.)

Things I liked:
- The exploration of complex sibling dynamics. I feel like in fiction nowadays the concept of a sibling relationship is very black and white, whereas in this book we could see Eddie as both a loving brother to Emmaline and the man who got sucked into lots of illegal stuff and got married without reaching out to Emmaline.
- Emmaline's relationship with her roommate. It was a really lovely friendship, and I'm really glad that they bonded so much.
- OLIVER KIPMAN. Guy is haunting the narrative so bad it makes me want to scream and cry. <3

Things I felt were a bit off:
- The romance. I understand that this isn't a romance story and am not expecting anything of the sort, but the sparks between the two love interests felt a bit rushed, in my opinion. The talks they had towards the end were amazing and emotional nonetheless, though!

In conclusion, BEST NOVELLA EVER. Everyone go read this book.

I loved returning to this world and seeing Emmaline's story. It honestly hurt to read the past timeline knowing how it ended.

I loved the found family in this book. Bryony's cheerfulness, Jasper's humor, and Emmaline's attitude made it all so fun to read. Actually getting to read and see Ollie and Grant was both so welcoming and painful. I do wish we had seen more of Grant specifically, but even then just being with these characters was amazing.
Also, I'm kind of wishing we get another book that's like a prequel of Paul and Lina and that story.
I wish there was a little more description, but besides that I have no complaints.


What I'm about to say is both spoiler-y and kind of my own theories of what happens next, so read with caution I guess?


It mentions the summer camp being closed because of a fire that killed some campers and counselors. And I feel like that might play a bigger part later on? Also! Kyle definitely knows more than he's letting on.
I vaguely remember the Lily Killer being mentioned in the first book, and my theory is that Mr or Mrs. Kipman is that person. Again, just a theory with very little evidence backing it up.

Anyways, such a fun and quick read! I loved the sneak peek of Before We Were Haunted, I'm so excited for that book!

Honest Review and Opinions:
This book was an amazing read and an emotional rollercoaster! My favorite part was the flashback chapters. Ollie and Emmaline broke my heart when we first got a glimpse of their story in TDOOK, so getting to know more about it broke my heart a thousand times over again. I was so glad that Emmaline was able to learn to love again after everything that happened to her. Emmaline is such a realistic character, how she pushes everybody away in the wake of her grief is sadly something that a lot of people can probably relate to. My favorite character was definitely Ollie, he reminds me a little bit of Johnny from We Were Liars(iykyk). This novella is perfectly tied up and left beyond excited for the next book!🤯 Great Job Keona, I’m excited to see what you think up for your next book!
