This is not a story where the silver fox mafia boss wants the twenty-year-old innocent heroine.
I’m in my forties, and the mafia boss wants me.
Bianca
My husband is dead—and the man who killed him is his rival.
I thought his rival wanted my daughter.
Instead, he wants me.
He claims our marriage will solidify his place in our cold, dangerous world. But when he looks at me with those dark, simmering eyes, I wonder if he remembers the spark we felt years ago, before the world showed us its cruelty…He’s my only savior, and I’ll marry him for protection, not for love.
Michael
She was the only woman I ever wanted, and the one who married my rival.
For years, I waited, methodically planning for the day when she would be mine.
Now, Victor Rossi is dead, and I’ll stop at nothing to take over his empire…And his gorgeous wife will help me, whether she intends to or not.
In the end, Bianca matters more than any empire, and I’ll stop at nothing to build a world where she can feel safe enough to open herself to me…in all the ways I desire…
If you enjoy a sizzling second chance mafia romance with a feisty heroine and a hero who will stop at nothing to claim her, settle in and enjoy Bianca and Michael’s story. Content information is listed in the beginning of the book and on the author’s website.
"Heated Redemption" by Kaya Sable is a dark mafia second-chance romance with a forced proximity element for good measure. Bianca (FMC) and Michael (MMC) met one night decades ago. He promised to marry her to get her out of a horrible arranged marriage situation with a brutal man who was much, much older than her to create an allegiance between their two families. Unfortunately, Michael's efforts were thwarted, and Bianca was given to the man for marriage. She spent the next several decades thinking Michael stood her up and lied to her. Now, years later, her husband is dead. Michael never stopped caring for and loving Bianca, so he makes his move to be with her in order to help protect her and her daughter from the evils coming their way. This is a quick-moving, short mafia romance that I enjoyed for the most part! I think things happen a bit too easy here and there between Michael and Bianca, but hey, it's fiction, what are ya gonna do? I did love the relationship between Michael and Bianca, which starts as a protection thing but quickly becomes much, much more as he helps her get whatever she wants and helps her learn what she likes in any and all aspects, if you catch my drift. There is definitely some good spice here, nothing to write home about in terms of newness, but certainly competently written. Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross do a great job narrating this romance. I think my only rub with the audiobook is the random laughs and chuckles and sighs that feel inconsistent throughout the story. I feel like the majority of the conflict that is set up here will come to a head in another entry in this series, but I couldn't help but want a little more drama where the two mafia families were concerned. Apart from that, I am looking forward to the next installment in this series!
Thank you to Kaya Sable and The Smuthood for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
Thank you Smuthood for the ALC for my honest review
This was a fast, dark, spicy mafia audiobook and I enjoyed every minute of it. The narration was really good and helped you feel the emotions of the characters. Can’t wait to read the second one !
3.5⭐ Bianca thought her days as a Mafia wife were over, until fate and obsession pulled her back in.
This is a fast enjoyable read at just over 200 pages. Think Mafia lite. Nothing is graphically depicted, but the danger and grit are always present. Bianca’s abuse is lightly touched on, more alluded to than shown. The drama centers on Bianca learning to trust Michael’s love and Michael fighting to keep her safe.
I loved that the heroine is in her 40’s and, despite everything, remains independent and pragmatic. Michael’s long‑term devotion and their 2nd chance romance were highlights, and the cliffhanger ending really raised the stakes! I’m definitely curious about Alexis and Nick’s story.
My biggest issue was Michael’s past relationships. I want my obsessed MMC to be OBSESSED. His past long‑term connection with another woman didn’t sit right with me. It felt like emotional cheating and cheapened his devotion. I would have preferred meaningless one‑nightstands. That would have reinforced that Bianca was always the center of his world. Please be aware, this is a very minor aspect in the story. He really is 100% devoted and there is no OW drama. This is just something that stood out to me personally.
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross gave an excellent performance in this duet. Both gave nuance to other character voices and even offered up various accents, which is always nice. There was an interesting element of voice layering at times, which I thought was unique and it worked for me.
If you enjoy mafia romance with a touch of danger and appreciate mature characters finally getting their hard-earned 2nd chance, Heated Redemption is worth the read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️ 🎧Duet Narration 💋Mafia Romance 💋Second Chance 💋Older FMC 💋Touch Her and Die Bianca and Michael met just before Bianca was to marry a mafia boss. Years later when they finally get the chance to be together they take it pretty quickly. Michael has yearned for her for 20 years and he is not going to lose her again. I loved this story. The relationship and spice were great and the overall mafia story was good too. Not so much mafia politics that I get bogged down with the details, but enough to be a good story and not just spice😂. Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross were amazing as the narrators, they have great chemistry and really bring the characters to life. Fav Quote: “I’ll call you whatever you want, if you let me”
This was exactly the kind of mafia romance I was in the mood for. I love when the main characters already have history, and Bianca & Michael's second chance romance had me clutching for my pearls from the get go🫣
One of my favorite things was that Bianca is in her 40s. As someone who's celebrating my own 40th birthday in just two weeks, I loved seeing a mature FMC getting her own love story. We don't get nearly enough heroines in this age range, and Bianca felt strong, capable, and easy to connect with. Michael is everything I want in a mafia MMC.... Protective, patient, completely obsessed, and absolutely giving touch her and die energy. Underneath all that ruthless mafia boss power is a man who's spent years quietly loving one woman, and I'm always a sucker for long-term pining.
The duet narration was fantastic and really brought the emotion, chemistry, and tension to life. It made the story incredibly easy to sink into. Finished it before I was done cleaning the house🤷🏻♀️😬
Now..... Who's counting down the days to the next book because if the hints are right, I cannot wait to get the story of Bianca's daughter and Michael's heir. That setup has me so excited. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🔥
If you're looking for a mafia romance that's more relationship-driven than nonstop action, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Tropes & Vibes: 🖤 Mafia Romance 🖤 Second Chance Romance 🖤 Marriage of Convenience 🖤 Mature FMC (40s) 🖤 Protective Mafia Boss 🖤 Touch Her & Die 🖤 Long-Term Pining 🖤 Dual POV 🖤 Found Family 🖤 Political Intrigue
Thank you to Kaya Sable, The Smuthood, and the ALC team for the advance listening copy. All opinions are my own.
I received this book for ALC for the audiobook to review. I loved this story, it was nice to read about a age that was not "oh im 18 and he's 35" she's an older woman when she finally gets with him and he is a older man. The audio was such well read and voices were so good They had me glued to the story. It had me laughing at points which I loved Spice level is pretty low for my opinion.
Thank you Smuthood for the opportunity to listen to this story via an ALC.
This is a fast paced mafia romance where our FMC, Bianca, and our MMC, Michael, are the children of two prominent mafia families. Upon meeting, Michael and Bianca have an insta-attraction followed by a heated moment which led to promises of rescue for Bianca from an arranged marriage with an older mafia leader. However, after Bianca’s fiancé catches wind of their plans, Michael is detained and Bianca is left believing him to have backed out of their deal. Because of this, Bianca proceeds with the arranged marriage.
23 years later, Michael is now the leader of his Mafia family and has brought his family the wealth and power he always envisioned for himself. The only thing missing in his life was Bianca, but that wasn’t for long.
Overall, I enjoyed the story as well as the narration and it gave me nostalgic feelings as it reminded me of my school days when I’d rush off the bus to watch episodes of General Hospital with my mom. That being said, this is more along the lines of a soap opera mafia romance. I liked Michael and Bianca but wish we would’ve had a little more yearning and information about events that took place during their 23 years apart.
First, a special thank you to The Smuthood and Kaya Sable for the ALC 🫶🏼
3/3.5 ⭐️
I really enjoyed the duet narration, it made the story feel so much more immersive and brought the characters to life.
I liked that both the FMC and MMC were older. It was refreshing since so many mafia romances have a young FMC barely in her twenties. Even though at times I felt their dynamic and actions didn’t reflect that.
Buuuut, I wanted more from their story. It felt a little too short, and I was left wanting more between them. It’s clear this book is laying the foundation for the rest of the series, and with the way this one ended I’ll be picking up the next one in the series to see where it goes.
This is fun, fast, sexy, suspenseful and full of drama. Exactly what I want in a Mafia romance. I didnt find it dark more grey and I still eat this up. I liked the chemistry and history between Bianca and Michael. Their story is full of secrets and hurt but they come together beautifully once they give in. He is absolutely obsessed with her and she falls hard and fast. I loved that both main characters are in their 40s. The emotional depth of their story had me completely invested and the action kept me engaged. This ends in a series chiffhanger but the couples HEA. I cant wait to get book 2 I'm fully invested.
Also the author made sure we knew going in she grew up on 90s daytime soaps and that they influenced her storytelling. I absolutely felt that as I listened to this, it brought me back to my teen years, loved it. I loved the feel of this series and I enjoyed the style of Kaya's storytelling. I cant wait for more.
Duet narration by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, they were amazing together. Their chemistry was stunning. They had me on my toes, the way the where able to convey the emotions and passion along with the fear and control needed for the story impressed me. Also I loved all the breathing and laughing added in throughout the whole story made it feel more realistic. They where both new to me and I truly enjoyed them.
Thank you to Kaya Sable and The Smuthood for this ALC. These are my honest opinions and feelings.
I loved the multi year yearning from Michael. Even after being betrayed and pulled apart from Bianca. He never gave up hope and that's shown very blatantly. The patience this man has to not just tiptoe but work through Biancas fears and problems.
I will say though their first intimate scene felt a little...cringey? At least to me.
I think the book is the perfect length to tell their story and leave you wanting more.

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice:🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 Review: If you like short, spicy mafia romances this is a perfect read for you. I wish there was more on the beginning chapters. I felt like we missed so many years and could have felt so many more emotions for the fmc. However overall still a great story and will be recommending to other book besties.
I got this book this afternoon and I literally finished it just now… I binged the heck outta it. This is what I would call a “mafia-lite” romance that isn’t heavy on the violence and tells the story of second chance lovers. I loved Kaya’s writing style and I cannot wait to read book 2!
Thank you to Kaya Sable for this arc in exchange for an honest review
When Michael saw Bianca it was love at first sight. He knew no one else would ever compare to her. The problem with that is she’s forced to marry someone else. Michael wants to save her but he knows he can’t. How will Michael survive without her? Determination to ruin her husband.
I love that Michael calls Bianca “Stella”. Stella means Star in Italian. Michael and Bianca’s first meeting was cute. The way Michael was so smitten with her so fast was nice to see. Michael knew he would be able to treat Bianca better than Victor. The plan Michael had was a good one. That night when Bianca went to meet Michael broke my heart. Bianca went through so much pain with Victor. It’s so sweet how after all that time Michael was still so in love with Bianca.
🖤🌹 He spent years building an empire... but the only thing he ever truly wanted was her. 🌹🖤

Heated Redemption was my first book by Kaya Sable, and it was a strong introduction to a promising new mafia romance series. Rather than focusing on brutal violence and endless bloodshed, this story leans into romance, unresolved feelings, and the idea that sometimes love deserves a second chance even after decades have passed.
One of the biggest highlights for me was the age of the main characters. Bianca is in her forties, and I absolutely loved seeing a mature heroine take center stage. It's refreshing to read a romance where both characters have lived full lives, carry emotional scars, and still find themselves hoping for another chance at happiness.
Although it's set within the mafia world, I'd definitely describe this as mafia-lite. The criminal backdrop is there, along with the power struggles and family politics, but it never overshadows the romance. Instead, the story focuses on the lingering connection between Bianca and Michael a relationship built on years of missed opportunities, quiet longing, and feelings that never truly disappeared.
Their chemistry feels earned because of the history they share. Watching old emotions resurface while they slowly lower their defenses made their relationship both believable and satisfying. The pacing is quick, making this an easy book to fly through, and the balance between romance, spice, and mafia intrigue kept me engaged throughout.
What I Loved
✔️ Mature main characters in their forties ✔️ Second-chance romance with genuine emotional history ✔️ Mafia setting without excessive violence ✔️ Strong chemistry built on years of longing ✔️ Fast-paced, easy-to-read storyline ✔️ A great introduction to a new series
🎧 Narration
Performed in duet by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross.
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are always a reliable narration team, and they deliver another enjoyable performance here. Kai brings warmth, resilience, and emotional depth to Bianca, while Wen Ross captures Michael's quiet intensity, unwavering devotion, and commanding presence perfectly.
Together, they create believable chemistry that enhances both the romantic tension and the emotional moments, making the audiobook an easy and entertaining listen.
Tropes & Vibes

Final Thoughts
Heated Redemption proves that mafia romance doesn't always need nonstop violence or over-the-top drama to be compelling. By focusing on mature characters, emotional history, and a love that refused to fade with time, Kaya Sable delivers a romance that's both heartfelt and wonderfully refreshing.
If you're looking for a lighter mafia romance with second chances, older main characters, simmering chemistry, and a hero who's spent years waiting for the woman he loves, Heated Redemption is definitely worth picking up. I'll certainly be keeping an eye on the rest of the Enduring Vendettas series.
🖤 Heated Redemption was such an entertaining mix of romance, suspense, and organized crime. It has enough danger to keep the stakes high, but it's never overwhelmingly dark. Before the story begins, Kaya Sable includes a note about potentially sensitive topics, and I really appreciated that. While there are moments that deal with heavier subjects, the overall tone leans much more toward an emotional crime romance than a true dark romance.
❤️ One of my favorite things about this book was that it centers on characters who aren't in their twenties. Seeing Bianca, a woman in her forties and a mother, take the lead in a romance felt incredibly refreshing. So many love stories act as though life stops after a certain age, but this one proves that passion, adventure, and second chances can happen at any stage of life. Bianca has grown so much from the woman she once was, and watching her rediscover herself while confronting the past made her journey easy to invest in.
🥃 Then there's Michael... and honestly, he completely understood the assignment. A powerful crime boss with silver hair, expensive suits, effortless confidence, and just enough arrogance to make him irresistible? Yes, please. Beneath that intimidating reputation is someone whose feelings for Bianca never truly disappeared, and seeing those emotions resurface after so many years apart gave the romance an extra layer of depth. Their history together made every reunion, conversation, and lingering glance carry so much more meaning.
✨ I loved that this wasn't a story about strangers falling in love. Instead, it's built around two people who shared something real in the past before life pulled them in completely different directions. When circumstances force them back into each other's orbit, old feelings quickly begin resurfacing, and I found myself rooting for them almost immediately.
🔥 The chemistry between Bianca and Michael never felt forced. Their connection is filled with longing, familiarity, and undeniable attraction. The intimate scenes are open-door and passionate without becoming excessive, fitting naturally into the emotional progression of their relationship. They added to the romance rather than taking attention away from the story itself.
🔫 The crime element also kept things moving at a great pace. There are tense confrontations, dangerous situations, and enough action to remind you that Michael's world is never truly safe. While the mafia side isn't explored in exhaustive detail, it provides plenty of suspense and creates a solid backdrop for the romance.
📖 If I had one small criticism, it's simply that I wanted more. At just over two hundred pages, the story moves quickly, and I found myself wishing for additional time with these characters. I would've loved a deeper look into Michael's rise within the organization, more insight into Bianca's life during the years they spent apart, and an even richer exploration of the criminal world surrounding them. That said, the shorter length also makes this an incredibly easy book to binge in a single sitting.
🎧 I experienced this through the audiobook, and it was fantastic. The narrators brought so much personality to both leads, making every emotional moment feel stronger and every flirtatious exchange even more enjoyable. Michael's narration, in particular, had me smiling more than once, and the performances added an extra layer of immersion to an already engaging story.
💜 Overall, Heated Redemption was a fun, fast-paced second-chance romance wrapped in a mafia backdrop, with mature characters, heartfelt emotion, and just the right amount of danger. It left me eager to continue the series, especially knowing the next book shifts its focus to Bianca's daughter and one of Michael's trusted men. I can't wait to see where the story goes next.
This is from a new author, well, their pen name is new. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out who it was 🤐
Heated Redemption: A Mafia Second Chance Romance (Enduring Vendettas Book 1) by Kaya Sable delivers exactly what its blurb promises, a steamy, intense tale of long simmering desire, power plays, and reluctant redemption in a dangerous mafia world.
The story centers on Bianca, a woman in her forties who’s recently widowed after her husband (a mafia figure) is killed by his rival, Michael. Far from the typical “innocent young heroine” trope, Bianca is mature, feisty, and fiercely protective of her daughter. She enters a marriage of convenience with Michael for protection, believing it’s purely strategic. ( 😉 yeah, right)
Michael, the obsessive “silver fox” mafia boss (though the blurb cleverly flips the age dynamic), has waited years to claim her after she given to his rival. His pursuit blends ruthless ambition to seize her late husband’s empire with a deeper, almost reverent longing for Bianca herself.
What stands out is the second chance element, there’s history between them, a spark from years ago that’s never fully extinguished. The tension builds from mutual wariness and old wounds to explosive chemistry.
Michael’s possessiveness is intense, he’ll burn the world for her safety, but the story gives Bianca a voice. She’s no passive damsel, her feistiness shines through in sharp banter and moments where she challenges him, making their dynamic feel earned rather than one-sided.
The romance is sizzling, with plenty of heat that lives up to the “heated” title. Expect dark, passionate scenes that explore desire, vulnerability, and trust building amid danger.
The mafia backdrop adds stakes, rivalries, power grabs, threats to family, but it doesn’t overshadow the emotional moments.
Themes of redemption, healing from past cruelty, and creating safety in a brutal world gives it something more than pure spice.
Pacing keeps things going, the initial forced proximity ramps up quickly, leading to confrontations and revelations.
If you love alpha heroes who are obsessed, heroines who push back, and that addictive blend of danger and devotion, this hits the spot. I loved his pet name for her (makes a refreshing change from baby or sweetheart)
If you’re craving a mature take on the trope (no barely legals here), with feisty chemistry and a HEA that feels right, settle in. Bianca and Michael’s story is addictive, steamy, and surprisingly heartfelt.
Looking forward to more in the Enduring Vendettas series!
⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5) Thank you to The Smuthood for providing me with an ALC in exchange for an honest review! 📖 Book: Heated Redemption ✍️ Author: Kaya Sable 📚 Genre: Contemporary Romance / Crime Romance ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 🌶️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 Heated Redemption is a gripping blend of romance, suspense, and crime that kept me invested from beginning to end. It delivers emotional depth, high-stakes tension, and sizzling chemistry while never losing sight of the heart of the story. If you enjoy romances with danger lurking around every corner, this one is definitely worth picking up. The Writing Kaya Sable's writing is engaging and incredibly easy to binge. The pacing flows smoothly, balancing action-packed moments with quieter emotional scenes that allow the characters to truly shine. I found myself constantly wanting to read "just one more chapter." The Plot The combination of romance and crime made this story impossible to put down. There were enough twists, suspenseful moments, and emotional revelations to keep me guessing without feeling overwhelming. The story maintained a strong balance between the romance and the external conflict. The Characters Bianca was a refreshing FMC. I loved seeing a mature heroine with real-life experiences, and her character growth throughout the story was satisfying to watch. While there were moments where I wished her decisions were a little more consistent, her journey ultimately felt authentic and rewarding. Michael completely stole the show for me. Charismatic, protective, intelligent, and effortlessly confident, he was impossible not to love. His calm authority and undeniable chemistry with Bianca made every scene they shared memorable. The Romance The chemistry between Bianca and Michael was undeniable. Their relationship developed naturally amidst the chaos surrounding them, making every emotional and romantic moment feel earned. Their banter, trust, and growing connection were easily some of my favorite parts of the book. Spice & Heat The spice was well-written, passionate, and complemented the story rather than overpowering it. It felt natural to the characters' relationship and added another layer to their emotional connection. Content Notes This is a crime romance, so expect criminal activity, violence, threats, suspenseful situations, and some emotionally intense scenes. While there are darker themes, it doesn't venture into dark romance territory. Overall Heated Redemption was an entertaining and addictive read with memorable characters, engaging suspense, and a romance that kept me rooting for the couple until the very last page. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ & 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Thank you to The Smuthood for sending me an ALC to review for Heated Redemption!
Heated Redemption is an engaging, fast-paced blend of crime and romance. Before diving in, the author provides a helpful disclaimer regarding potentially triggering topics, noting that she doesn't write dark romance. I can certainly confirm that while there are a few sensitive scenes, this is by no means a dark romance—though do bear in mind it’s not a cozy read either!
The Narrative & Audio
I listened to the ALC, and the narration was brilliant. The MMC’s voice had me giggling and blushing multiple times—listening to this during my morning commute to work was definitely a risky choice!
The Characters
I had a few mixed feelings about Bianca, the FMC, though overall I really liked her arc. On one hand, I loved that she is a strong, middle-aged woman and a mother starring in a romance. Life doesn't end when you have children or hit your 40s, and I desperately wish more authors embraced main characters who go on adventures at this stage of life! That said, her attitude occasionally shifted between demure and fiercely independent a bit too abruptly, which pulled me out of the story momentarily. Still, her growth from a naive younger self into a mature, irresistible woman was wonderful to follow.
Then there’s Michael, the MMC. What a character! He is a smart, silver-fox crime lord—the absolute "climb that mountain and never come down" type. He’s the kind of man who could only exist in fiction: a total green flag dressed in bossiness, Armani suits, a Rolex, and a wicked grin.
Spice & Heat
The spice hit a great sweet spot for me. There are more than three open-door, explicitly detailed scenes. While they weren't the absolute best I’ve ever read, they were incredibly enjoyable with a nice balance of explicit and evocative language without ever feeling overly vulgar (and no 'C-word', if that's a factor for you!).
Action & Content Notes
Being a mafia-adjacent crime romance, expect threats at gunpoint, shootouts, and light violence, though nothing overly gory.
Overall, this was a thoroughly fun read and a fantastic audiobook experience. I am definitely looking forward to Book 2 to see where the story goes next!
Fast, fiery, and zero time wasted! If you want a short Mafia Romance with high heat, a mature MFC, and a silver fox MMC, run, don't walk to add Heated Redemption By Kaya Sable to your TBR! - Firstly,I'd like to thank The Smuthood for giving me the chance to listen to this story on audio in advance. I'd also like to thank Kaya Sable for creating such a unique narrative that is for romance lovers of (almost) all ages.
Instead of the standard twenty something main characters we usually read about, we now follow Bianca and Micheal; a mature and captivating pair in their 40's. They share a heated, decades-long unresolved history following the death of Bianca's husband who she was arranged to marry when she was younger. Micheal steps in with a marriage of convenience offer, that Bianca accepts to keep herself and her adult daughter Alexis safe from the troubles that have risen since the death of Bianca's husband.
Bianca and Micheal bring real life experience, emotional depth, and incredible growth to the story. Who can resist a protective silver fox who is commanding and powerful, yet entirely devoted to the woman he loves.
The heat level is high and supported by a second chance narrative that makes their connection feel instant, yet earned. At around 210 pages, it's a total page turner that can be devoured in one sitting or listened to on audio quickly!
Since the book moves at such a brisk and exciting pace, the timeline is fast-tracked as the pair jump into their arrangement almost immediately. It leans into a much more romance focused story, rather than focusing on the gritty and violent Mafia lifestyle that lies in the background of the pairs story, which makes it a great read for those who are interested, but unsure about diving into Mafia romance.
The end leaves just enough room to provoke thoughts on how the story will continue in the next addition to get you hyped to revisit the world Kaya Sable has created.
This book is perfect for anyone who's trying to reach a reading goal, or for someone who loves protective protagonists, second chances, and mature romance.
Heated Redemption releases to the public August 15th, so be sure to pre-order your copy now!
👀POV: Dual, first person, past tense 📖What to expect: Mafia (light) romance, second chance, MCs in their 40s, marriage of convenience, dominant hero
This is a fast-paced steamy mafia-light romance - there isn’t graphic violence and the MMC is totally besotted with the FMC, and treats her well for the most part. I was so excited when I saw that this author had written mafia romance because it’s one of my favourite genres and I’ve enjoyed some of her other books written under a different pen name.
24-year old Michael and 19-year old Bianca meet a week before she’s arranged to be married to Victor, a mafia boss 30 years her senior. There’s obvious attraction between them and he offers to save her from her impending marriage but plans go awry and she’s forced to marry Victor. Fast forward 23 years, she’s widowed and has to run to him for help to protect her daughter despite the fact that she still hates him for abandoning her all those years ago.
As someone in their late 30s, it was refreshing to read a book that features main characters in their 40s. This is quite a short book (5hrs long) and while it has good bones, I felt the romance was lacking. I didn’t really feel the connection between the characters beyond the physical. We don’t really see any emotional intimacy until well into the story, which made it hard for me to be emotionally invested in them as a couple. I was more interested in the mafia plot than the romance.
The narration is done in duet, narrated by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross. They were perfect for playing more mature characters and their performance kept me engaged throughout the story. I liked that Wen Ross used non-verbal vocalisations like sighs and groans, to punctuate his dialogue.
There were two minor issues I had the audiobook, though – one was a narration issue, the other was with the production. Both narrators kept pronouncing “capo” wrong. Two people deeply entrenched in the world of the Italian mafia wouldn’t pronounce it the way they did. The other thing was that, there were instances where the non-verbal vocalisations didn’t line up with the narration. For example, they’re having a conversation and Bianca is narrating i.e. not dialogue, and she says “he inhaled sharply…” but the inhale comes while she's still speaking rather than him inhaling just before Michael’s dialogue. It happened a few times and it was jarring. Despite those issues, I still enjoyed the audiobook overall.
I feel like this is a good set up for the rest of the series (which is already out in ebook and print) and it looks like the mafia plot is going to run through the whole series, with a different couple featured in each book. The next book is about Bianca’s 22-year old daughter who is a hacker, and Michael’s much younger cousin who is his right hand man and I’m excited to read it.
If you’re looking for a fast-paced mafia romance that’s light on the violence and dark themes, with an obsessed cinnamon roll MMC and an FMC who gets a second chance at love, this might be worth picking up.
*I received an advance copy from The Smuthood. These thoughts are entirely my own.
Kaya Sable is a new-to-me author, and after finishing Heated Redemption, I already know I’ll be reading more from her! This first book in the Enduring Vendettas series completely pulled me in.
Michael and Bianca’s story is the perfect right person, wrong time romance. From the moment Michael lays eyes on Bianca, he’s absolutely hooked. But when he doesn’t show up to help her escape the life she was trapped in, Bianca is left heartbroken and forced to return to the man she’s supposed to marry. What she doesn’t know is that Michael was kidnapped and brutally tortured simply for speaking to her at a party.
More than 20 years later, fate gives them another chance. After Michael kills Bianca’s abusive husband, the safest option for Bianca and her daughter is a marriage of convenience. Watching these two finally get the opportunity they were robbed of all those years ago was so satisfying.
The chemistry between Michael and Bianca was undeniable, but what I loved most was Michael’s unwavering devotion. Every decision he made was to protect Bianca and give her the life Bianca deserved. No matter what obstacle stood in his way, he faced it head-on if it meant keeping her and her daughter safe.
I also listened to this on audio, and Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross absolutely nailed the narration. They brought so much emotion and intensity to Michael and Bianca’s journey, making every heartbreaking and heartwarming moment even more impactful.
If you love mafia romance, marriage of convenience, second chances, right person, wrong time, and an MMC who is fiercely protective and completely devoted to his woman, I definitely recommend picking this one up. I can’t wait to continue this series!

Heated Redemption is an engaging blend of love, danger, and excitement without being heavy. Sensitive themes are acknowledged, making it heartfelt rather than dark. The story is captivating from start to finish, with genuine emotion, sparks between characters, and a balanced mix of romance and crime. Kaya Sable's flowing, accessible writing creates a compelling read that combines action with emotional depth, keeping you hooked and eager for more. Bianca, a mother in her forties, her growth and self-discovery made her relatable, though I wished her choices were more consistent. Michael, a confident, silver-haired crime boss, was perfect: charming, caring, and subtly arrogant. His enduring care for Bianca deepened their reunion, making their connection genuinely heartfelt. His effortless confidence and chemistry with Bianca made every moment memorable. Their shared past fuels immediate chemistry, rooted in familiarity and longing, and the crime elements add tension and action, with dangerous confrontations and Mafia intrigue providing a compelling backdrop without overwhelming the romance.
Thoughts Heated Redemption is a fast-paced, addictive mafia-era second-chance romance filled with mature characters, genuine emotion, and suspense. The audiobook’s stellar narration, especially Michael’s voice, heightened the story’s impact, making it both funny and heartfelt. The characters are memorable, and the chemistry is compelling. I’m excited to continue the series, especially as the next book focuses on Bianca’s daughter and Michael’s trusted Ally. Highly recommended for fans of emotional crime romance.
Quote(s) “I will always choose you.”
“Don’t make me force you. Last time, you had no choice. This time, I want you to choose me.”
🚨 Apparently I’ve entered my “give me the mature FMC and the silver fox” era… AND I AM ABSOLUTELY NOT MAD ABOUT IT. 😂🔥
Heated Redemption by Kaya Sable was such a quick, fun listen and exactly the kind of mafia romance I was in the mood for.
First of all… a mature FMC in her 40s?! YES PLEASE. 🙌🏻 We need more women in this age bracket getting their happily-ever-afters, and Bianca was everything I wanted her to be — strong, capable and absolutely not interested in being treated like some innocent little damsel.
Then there’s Michael… 👀
A silver fox mafia boss who has spent TWENTY YEARS pining for the woman he never stopped wanting? Protective, patient, obsessed and serving up some serious touch-her-and-die energy. Say less. 😂
I loved that this was a second-chance romance where the characters already had history. Their connection, chemistry and spice were fantastic, while the mafia storyline gave the book enough danger and intrigue without drowning the romance in endless politics.
And the duet narration by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross was brilliant. They brought Bianca and Michael to life beautifully, with the chemistry and emotion really coming through in the audio.
Also… the side characters. 👀
Kaya, I’m going to need you to hurry up with those books because I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. Especially after that cliffhanger …. seriously criminal….I am already impatient and I’ve only just finished this one. 😂
A fun, spicy, relationship-focused mafia romance with a mature FMC, long-term pining, second chances and excellent narration.
And yes… I will absolutely be counting down for the next book. 🎧🖤
Thank you to Kaya Sable, The Smuthood and the ALC team for the advance listening copy. All opinions are my own.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ALC Review – Heated Redemption by Kaya Sable
A huge thank you to The Smuthood PR Team and Kaya Sable for the opportunity to listen to this ALC before release!
This was actually my first mafia romance, and I have to say it was a great introduction to the genre. At just over 200 pages, it’s a quick, fast-paced read that kept me engaged from beginning to end.
I’d describe it as “Mafia Lite.” The danger, suspense, and gritty atmosphere are always there, but nothing is overly graphic. Bianca’s past abuse is handled thoughtfully—it’s more implied than explicitly shown—which allows the focus to stay on the emotional journey.
What I loved most was that Bianca is in her 40s. It’s refreshing to read about a mature heroine who remains strong, independent, and practical despite everything she’s endured. Michael’s unwavering devotion to her over the years made the second-chance romance even more meaningful.
The story centers on Bianca learning to trust Michael’s love while Michael does everything he can to protect her. Their chemistry and emotional connection were definitely the highlights for me.
And that ending… that cliffhanger! It completely raised the stakes and left me eager to find out what happens next. I’m especially excited to dive into Alexis and Nick’s story.
If you’re looking for a fast, emotional second-chance romance with mafia elements that aren’t overly dark, I’d definitely recommend giving Heated Redemption a try. ❤️📚
At only about five hours, Heated Redemption is a quick listen, but it packs second-chance romance, Italian mafia families, suspense, and plenty of complicated history into that time.
More than twenty years ago, Bianca was forced into a marriage with Victor Rossi for power. Now Victor is dead, and Bianca finds herself marrying his enemy—and killer. The arrangement offers protection and benefits them both, but the question quickly becomes whether this marriage is really just business… or whether there’s something much deeper between them.
I’m always a sucker for a second-chance romance, and I really enjoyed the history between these characters and watching everything unfold against the backdrop of rival Italian families. There’s enough suspense and danger woven into the romance to keep the story moving, and the shorter length made this an easy, fast-paced listen.
The audiobook is performed in duet narration by Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross, and they did such a great job. Both fit their main characters really well, but I was especially impressed by how distinct they made the supporting characters sound too. Even with multiple people in a scene, it was easy to tell who was speaking, which made the duet narration feel seamless.
A quick, entertaining mafia romance with second chances, family rivalries, danger, and characters with a LOT of history between them.
I love ALL of this author’s books and when I found out she was writing mafia romance under a new pen name, I could not run to pre-order fast enough! Heated Redemption was SCORCHING, y’all! We have rival mafia families who are battling for control of the east coast. When we open the story, Bianca is a young woman in her early 20’s, about to be given by her father to the head of another mafia family to cement and alliance—a much older man who she does not want to marry. She has one night of an intense connection with Michael Caruso, who is trying to bring his family’s name into prominence, but these star-crossed lovers don’t get their chance… yet! I love that this is a second chance romance, and I love that this story, like many of this author’s stories feature middle aged characters. When we catch back up to Michael and Bianca, they’re both in their 40’s, and this silver fox and this hot mafia wife definitely scorch the pages. Bianca has a daughter that she will do anything to protect, and Michael is equal parts hot, possessive and a good guy you want to root for. The steamy scenes are grab your fire extinguisher hot, and the pacing stays good and quick, making this the perfect length read to enjoy in just a day or two. I was totally cheering for these two, and also for two more couples I hope we are going to see get books! 5/5 stars!
I received this as an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
Older hot Mafia Boss, Older FMC? YES PLEASE!!!!
Holy hotness batman!.This audiobook was amazing!!! Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross narrate this tale of mafia greatness.
In the beginning of the book Michael meets Bianca when she is 19 and falls instantly for her. However, she is promised to a man 20 years her senior..a cruel mafia boss from a rival family.
Fast forward 23 years, Bianca's husband is dead by Michael's hand and once again she is forced into a marriage. This time for protection. However, this marriage is different, as she soon learns.
There are secrets that other mafia men want, Michael and Bianca will do anything to protect, and it may cost someone their life!
This was so so good. The characters are well written, tho I would have liked a bit more of the backstreet of Bianca's treatment at the hands of her first husband. As a reader over 50, I so appreciated that these characters are well over 40, a rare find in romance. While I enjoy romance novels of many age groups, the college age main characters are often very hard to relate to.
I am so excited for book 2 of the series as this book does end with a cliffhanger!
The narrators were fabulous! Kai Kennicot as Biance gives a relatable performance as does Wen Ross as Michael!
I’ve spent a little while thinking about this review and trying to decide how I feel about the book and I think that’s because it just didn’t work that well for me. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the premise and I’m always down for a good mafia romance, but this was more light gray mafia romance than dark and I think that’s part of what threw me. It also was a really quick book and it felt rushed to me. I didn’t connect with the characters at all and really had no feelings one way or the other about the FMC or the MMC. I think all of that is why it’s taken me so long to sit down and write this review, it’s because I’m just kind of ambivalent about the book.
I will say that I love the fact that it was a duet narration for the audiobook and I’m always down to listen to a book that Wen Ross narrates. He did great job brining Michael’s character to life and I definitely looked forward to his narration. This was the first time that I’ve heard Kai Kennicott narrate a book and while I think she did a fine job there were some parts of her narration that fell a little flat for me and because of that I didn’t feel as much of a connection with Bianca as I was expecting.
All in all this wasn’t a bad book, it just really wasn’t for me. But I know that there will be people that read it and absolutely love it. And I love that for them.
🖤 Spicy Mafia Romance 🖤 Touch Her & Die 🖤 Second Chance Romance 🖤 Dominant Hero
I absolutely devoured this one! 😈 I’m such a sucker for a good mafia romance, and this hit all the right notes.
The story starts with Bianca trapped in a miserable arranged marriage when Michael falls completely head over heels for her. Their connection is instant, passionate, and had me rooting for them from the very beginning. Of course… this is a mafia romance, so everything quickly goes completely off the rails. 😅
Fast forward 20+ years, and they finally get a second chance at the life they were always meant to have.
Bianca was such a fantastic FMC. She’s incredibly strong, fiercely protective of the people she loves, and somehow keeps fighting despite all the terrible hands life has dealt her. And Michael? My heart absolutely broke for him. The fact that he waited all those years, never giving up on the woman he loved, made me love him even more.
Now… after that ending, I’m officially stressed about Bianca’s daughter, and I need the next book ASAP! Kaya Sable definitely left me desperate to see what happens next. Also, thank you to Kaya and Smuthood for adding me to the ALC! Amazing opportunity 🖤
I devoured this audio book in a day, as the author states at the beginning, this is a light mafia story, the focus on this love story as opposed the the mafia lifestyle and many things we typically read in this genre.
It was love at first sight when Michael met Bianca at an event a couple of days before her wedding to an unpleasant man 30 years her senior, as an agreement between him and her father. He offered her a way out, marry him instead. However he never came to their agreed meeting point, and she felt completely let down by him and forced into a loveless and sometimes abusive marriage. Michael never stopped loving her and spent the next 20 years, doing all he could to be in a position to make it up to her.
Throughout the story, Michael calls Bianca “Stella” which is Star in Italian. And shows her how much she has always meant to him. Bianca's daughter Alexis has to go into hiding as she holds information abut her now deceased fathers illegal business deals and other want it, so Michael arranges for his closest capo and cousin Nick to take Alexis to a safe house for a few months to keep her away from risk.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, which has made me desperate for book 2. The narrators did a great job and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book.
