Bridenapped #1

The Alpha Chronicles

Rate this book
Bridenapping? That old tradition where the Alpha grabs the bride of his choice and takes her back to his pack’s property to submit to his lustful demands? That’s so 19th century.
Unfortunately, the law is still on the books, and quite enforceable. And even worse, the sexy new Alpha of the Verhold Pack has the nerve to stake his claim – on the one human in Lakeville who has reason to loathe him the most. Caitlin Bellefont blames Kristofer for taking her family’s lands, but if she refuses him, it means financial ruin for her entire town.
Now Caitlin’s only hope of escape is to resist the scorchingly sexy man who is determined to show her the pleasures of submitting to an Alpha. Not only that, the whole world is watching – and not all of the eyes on Caitlin are friendly. While TV shows beg for interviews, and social media sites are blowing up with rumors and news leaks, it seems that someone very dangerous will stop at nothing to prevent this wedding. Can Caitlin sort out her tangled feelings for Kristofer, and resolve her family’s bitter feud? She’s got until the next full moon to find out.

Georgette St. Clair writes hot, sexy romances starring Alpha heroes. The road to love may be rocky and fraught with peril (and humor and scorchtastic sex and healthy heapings of snark), but her shifters will stop at nothing to claim the women they love.

Georgette has worn many hats in life: newspaper reporter, EMT, internet marketer, cocktail waitress, temp, nurse’s aide (not in chronological order).

When she’s not rescuing fur-babies, she spends her days in a fantasy universe where she nudges her smart-mouthed, take-no-gruff heroines onto paths which will set them on a collision course with true love.

2.75(ish) Long live mediocrity!

Ok, it started out awful, I wanted to DNF it a few times (but I was waiting for a friend and I had nothing else to read, so I kept at it). I'm glad I finished it, it got better.

Don't get your hopes up though, it wasn't that much better, but hey, I didn't want to throw it out the window and I ended up liking parts of it. The characters were still annoying (at least the main female one) and I felt absolutely no chemistry. But I liked some ideas from the plot, some stuff that I haven't heard of before.

All in all, it was a mediocre book. I didn't get anything new by reading it but I didn't completely lose my time.

When Caitlin Bellefont receives an invitation to her own wedding, she is shocked and furious. Her groom to be is none other than Kristofer, the new Alpha of the Verhold Pack. The man single handedly ruined her family by taking their land. The Bellefont's have been fighting the claim but with no deed to prove their stance. Initially Caitlin thinks this is a cruel joke but Kristofer is completely dedicated to claiming Caitlin as his wife.

Some of the pack is not thrilled with the Alpha's choice in bride and trying to sabotage the event. Even if Caitlin changes her mind about Kristofer, her family still comes first. Each day that she grows closer to the wedding, she finds herself falling harder for Kristofer and it is going to break her heart to leave.

Entertaining original story. I thought this was very funny, loved Caitlin's family. Kristofer has to put the pack first and although he knows Caitlin sees him as the enemy he does everything he can to win her heart. Had a couple of twists I was not expecting.

I loved the idea of the whole "bridenapping" thing but something was just missing

The sample for this book had me sold. A BBW that wanted nothing to do with the alpha was to be bridnapped. I wanted more resistance on the heroines part. It was just too easy and quickly turned to insta-love. The storyline just fell flat for me. It was overly predictable and I never really felt anything for a.single character in this book. The sex was hot but that was about it. This won't be a series I personally continue.

I do know we all like different books, but it still comes as a surprise that people are actually enjoying this 'story', and I use the term loosely.

There are so many wrongs to be utterly ridiculous:
-there is no plot, at least outside what the author says. Plot to me is made by a storyline and all that supports it, including characters. Here everything went into a different direction.
-do not pretend you're supporting fat people. Not if you make them weak, pathetic, plainly stupid.
-do not add fake angst and then ignore it.
I know this is a very short novel or a longish novella, this should not be an excuse to avoid any love story, well any story. Pheromones, mate bonds, etc are almost offensive used this way (to my brain, not my feminist side).

It irks me. Meh,at 0.99 you can try. But unless this is your poison, I can't recommend it.

Note that there are some editing problems, including the heroine's changing name, plus some minor technical ones.

Let nature take it’s course

This is an amazing story that takes the shifter bridenapping concept and adds the spin of even more drama. I love how the author gave these two a conflict before the invitations went out and then she threw in some well meaning friends, family who don’t understand boundaries, and backstabbing pack members with their own agendas. All those things that took this fantastic love story and turned it into a juicy story I can’t wait to read all over again. The characters are so well written and have such a depth of emotion that I wanted to join them on the path to their HEA. I hope the author brings us more bridenapped stories, but I will gladly read anything she sends my way.

This was almost a solid 5 star read for me. I was loving it from the moment I opened the book, and noticed it was over 3,000 in the Kindle location--I really enjoy this author, but I notice she tends to write shorter length stories, and this looked promising in length. I actually totally engrossed me from the first page. I LOVED the characters. The h was smart, fun, caring, with a no nonsense attitude. The H was very alpha, yet super sweet the way he puts up with the h's attitude. Even the secondary characters were super entertaining, yet did not take away from the main focus of the couple. There were even aspects I do not care for in books that did not bother me in this one. For example, short secondary story lines of other character romances within the story, and the fact there was a strong emphasis on "pheromones" for the way the H and h could not keep their hands off each other instead on a "love" attraction. The story moved well, the writing was smart, funny, a little silly (but not in a bad way)....and then it ended. This was where I felt the book fell short. There was such a great build up to all these dramatic aspects--family problems, crazy other women, rebellious factions, the h's life is in danger, plus others--then everything gets wrapped up in a couple of pages. To me, it was almost like the excitement of the story was like a balloon getting inflated steadily, then it bursts and you are looking at the broken pieces of broken balloon wishing you had it back so you could play with it some more. It's not that I didn't enjoy the story as a whole, or I wouldn't recommend it for a quick, fun read. I was just disappointed in what I felt was the "abruptness" of the resolution to the suspense.

Stars: 4

Overall: Caitlin is on her lunch break at work, when she is going through her boss's mail, when she sees and invation saying that she will be married by the next full moon and laughs. Her friends see it and Caitlin goes into overdrive trying to figure out who is playing a joke on her, but she comes to realize that it's true. At first she is pissed because this is the man that stole her family's land, but there is something magnetic and sexy to him. Caitlin at first tries to ignore him, but eventually she is drawn in by his scent, his charm and how much he really cares for her. There are people that try and to come between them and also Caitlin learns about her past and how she has some magic in her. This book leaves you with a HEA

Pros: I love how optimistic Kristofer at making Caitlin like and then love him. I personally laughed a lot when he said things to rile her up. I also liked the whole idea of Bridenapping I really loved Caitlin's family and how they all stuck together even when they had fallen on hard times. I also loved her cousin ( the hacker ) and her sense to make money and be such a smart ass.

Cons: Ok, I just have a few minor complaints about this story. #1 The very end when the crazy chick starts cutting down her tree. I kind of wish that would've happened before their wedding. It felt like an after thought or maybe an alternate ending. Also at times Caitlin would bother me about hoe mean she could be. I get that you think this guy stole your land, but she had no proof and with a hacker cousin and her boyfriend, I would think it could've been something that they figured out earlier in the book.

Characters: Caitlin & Kristofer

Page Turner: Yes

Series Cont: I hope so!

Recommend: Yes

-Kindle Unlimited
-Fairly quick read
- Interesting 'verse : The one thing I think Ms. St. Clair always does well is set up universes for her characters that make me want to read more. The romance isn't the strongest, but I like the female friendship and their banter.
- Annoying heroine : her level of self-involvement was a bit distracting. She spends little to no time with the hero except wondering how he could want her. I don't know because it's not like they even knew each other. Insta-love is all well and good, but I need some connection after they meet. Not alot but at least some.
- vague hero : He was pretty perfect which made him kind of bland and honestly, after finding out , I wasn't that drawn to him.

description
It was ok. If the romance was half as strong as the 'verse setup, I would have liked this alot more.

Disliked this hook

Lost a star when Caitlin comes back to find some naked woman all over her man. And even though, Kristofer didn't want it, it rubbed me the wrong way. And then the pheromones make Caitlin all horny, and they screw instead of talking about it.. Talk about an inappropriate time. And the fact that Kristofer had a sexual relationship with one of the clan members, and then made her lady in waiting to Caitlin.

Caitiln was so weak. She thought he ruined her and her whole family, but she gave in so easily considering. And Kristopher was too perfect, he had no personality.

Random insert of Another couple at 80% was odd.

I really didn't like this book. It was flat, and I didn't like the characters. They were frustrating.

The hero was way to beta (for an alpha) for me. That and him taking her family land because it is pack land and then the heroine talking about their packs lavish lifestyle 5 pages later just made me think that he was a selfish prick. Of course the h just opened her legs for him the whole time she has an inner monologue of how much she hates him...................... So it was ok.

2.75 I almost liked it buttttttttt not quite.

I gave this book three stars because I liked the quirky narrative, the plot surprises (that did surprise me), and just how smart the author was at times. The Alpha wolf hero, Kristofer, ain't half bad either. What happens to him in the evening hours is downright funny, and it was a little lame to trip Caitlin up that way but also a goofy plot device and yes, somewhat trope. The brideknapping idea is why I bought this, and the fact it was a steal, as well as the hot cover. Hey, call me shallow.

The issues I had with this were:
1. The Mean Girl Character- I get so sick of this plot device of over the top bullying in the form or antagonist who is good-looking, rich and after the male love interest. It is old cliched and done to death. Enough. Stop it.

2. The Insecure/Flawed Heroine- Ok, ok I get it. The heroine is not stick thin and svelte, or traditionally pretty, etc. I don't want to keep hearing about it over and over and over again either. It got on my nerves hearing about Caitlin's weight issues and bullying as a result of her size. Body shaming is a very painful and hateful part of our society, especially for women, but after making this point in the story it did not bear repeating until as I reader, I felt bludgeoned with Caitlin's past and present concerns and hurts. It was not fair to the character and it got old because she had such spunk and amazing friends.

3. Constant Dialogue/Too Quick Resolution- Sometimes I wanted to see what happened rather than hear about it. Sometimes I felt things got tied out into a need little bow without enough conflict to bring about the change. Perhaps I was being too demanding and asking to much from this delightful author in the first book of this series.

Overall, this wasn't bad at all. I paid 99.cent for it, and hey! I got a big bang for it. I won't be reading the next book because I didn't sucked into this world or attached to the characters. But I appreciate every ounce of time and attention and creativity that was put into this novel.

There nothing I loved or hated about this one. It was strangely written. Almost like a conversation but stilted and bland. I liked the characters and could have seen myself loving them if only they were better developed and whole. Since they weren't the book gets a shoulder shrug and will be forgotten.

Bridenapped is a book I got off Kindle Unlimited. I was cruising the store and from the synopsis it seemed like a neat twist on a paranormal novel. Figuring it would be fun, I got it. I wasn't wrong in that, it was a fun read. It didn't run me over with "Oh my gracious, this is the best book ever." feelings, but it did keep my complete attention. Being a reader of paranormal romance, you tend to see the same trope again and again. There are typically three main categories of species, etc. and you go with it. Well. Ms. St. Clair has given us something a wee bit different here.

Let me start with the writing, which I did find interesting. I loved how the characters were done and I did also love the interactions between Caitlin and her two best friends. Caitlin herself was a fantastic character, I did find myself rooting for her at times and then facepalming at others. This amused me. She's all about resiting this whole situation.

As for Kristofer, can we say complete Alpha. What surprised me was that he's not a complete alpha-hole. He cares about Caitlin and her feelings. He's romantic, he's a gentlemen for all intents and purposes but he's also just... dirty. He wants Caitlin and he's not afraid to let her know it. For instance...

"Do you know what happens when you try to resist an Alpha? He asked. "What?" She panted. "You fail. And then they fuck you till you scream for mercy. And then they fuck you some more.". - Kristoper - Bridenapped by Georgette St. Clair

My jaw basically dropped.

leavesyaspeechlessdontit

This book is flat out steamy, which is something you can't help but notice. These two aren't just attracted to each other, it's not that simple. Then you throw in moonrisings? (Another fantastic twist to the typical paranormal book that I had never seen, by the way.) I sat over here fanning my face at one point. Yes, you definitely do have a level of smut-tatsic-ness in this book.

All in all, it's a solid three star read for me. I enjoyed it and a few of the laugh out loud moments. I even had some of those 'Oh no she didn't" moments too. Not to mention the left field moment when I was like, "Oh wow! That makes sense! Neat!". If you like paranormal romance, and want to see some twists on the typical werewolf/alpha trope, give this book a try. I can't say for me it was the best one I ever read, but I would definitely recommend it.

This was a really good werewolf story. The world in which it occurs is a little different from out. A few hundred years ago, they discovered that werewolf blood can heal many human diseases, so werewolves are not only accepted, they are powerful. The werewolves need human help, too. The only way for an alpha werewolf to be born is with an alpha father and human mother. Long ago, a law was instituted that allowed alpha werewolves to bridenap--that is, choose whichever human woman they wanted and take her to their home. The law is never followed in America, but is still on the books. If the human woman doesn't accept her werewolf groom, the whole town pays huge financial restitution to the pack.
OK, so the gorgeous alpha has fallen in love and chosen a bride who won't have anything to do with him. Know that he's originally from Europe, not America, where the old traditions are followed. Throw in the there that the pack had bankrupted her family in a property dispute. She and her family are fighting the pack to get their land back.
So, in modern times with ipads, facefriends (think facebook), media reporters looking for a human interest story, he bridenaps his lovely BBW lady. It is a medieval story in a modern setting.
Just so you know, there are some great sex scenes. I forgot to mention earlier that alphas exude sexually attracting pheromones for an hour after moonrise that no woman can resist, and it also arouses him.
The characters are well developed, the world-building is wonderful, the secondary characters are hilarious, and there is conflict in the pack that causes a death challenge. You will really like the spunky heroine, the chivalrous hero, the teenaged cousin with a blog and a hacker boyfriend, and you will hate the evil money-grubbing human major, tradition-bound beta, and evil lady-in-waiting.

Overall this book is a 3.5 and a fun read. The reason that the book didn't get a higher rating was due to the missing words in sentences or the wrong word being used. This causes mini 'road blocks' when reading but it didn't take away from the story much.

Caitlin the female lead has caught the eye of the new Alpha (Kristofer) of the Verhold Pack and he has enacted an old law (Bridenapping) that is no longer practiced. Should she fight her attraction or go to her 'destined mate' willingly? The dynamic the Verhold pack is slightly different than other werewolf/shifter packs in other stories. They have a completely 'old world' vibe about them. The pack has a very distinct cast system going which takes another approached to the typical pack hierarchy (dominant vs. subservient) and it would be interesting to see how this plays out in future books.

Another element that the book has that I like a lot is angst. A good story (to me) would have to have the proper amount of angst and in the case of this book there were two very angsty chicks making havoc. Also, there is a very salty Beta who didn't get enough book time to created more trouble. The only other thing that I'd hoped that the author would have spent more time on was the heroine's supernatural background.

Just no... Oh my lord, I am all up for sci-fi/paranormal premises. Just make it good for Christ's sake. In this world, we coexist with werewolves. Awesome right? I thought so...until the world building started. And it came out like verbal diarrhea.

Oh by the way, they are treated like royalty by humans and have no repercussions regarding human rights. Asserting said human rights are subject to harsh penalties including payments to the pack in the form of near bankruptcy.

That's just one. There are dozens of such scenarios that the writer just hits you with in the middle of the scene. Placed in the middle of conversations like an after thought and had the effect of dynamite. The reader is left stunned, bewildered, and somewhat molested (mentally, not physically).

Like I said... I L-O-V-E sci-fi/supernatural stuff (in fact Supernatural is one of my most fav shows). I had high hopes for this one but after a while it was just....

The romance was based on lust and materialism.

The hero swoops in and sexes her into submission. He is busy for most of the rest of the story which was explained away as he was doing something that she suggested.

I enjoyed Lottie's plot more than the main characters.

The multiple villains seemed over the top. The women had flimsy explanations for their behavior. I was dissatisfied with the lack of WHY the drama with the land/deed. That is the whole reason she hated the hero and all it explained was who the culprit was. And why was the heroine considered a human when she is magical? There was so much going on that the main relationship was pushed off for wedding planning and pheromone induced intimacy.

There are some editing issues but the reader can figure out what was meant.

Caitlin can´t believe it when the invitations to her own wedding is sent out, and the groom is an Alpha about to bridenap her according to old customs.
With bad blood between their families, do they stand a chance?

It was a good story, however...

There were a ton of grammatical errors. So basic I’m confused as to why they weren’t corrected during editing. All the other books I’ve read from this author never had this issue, so I was very surprised to find them so prevalent here.

There was also a random chapter of two minor characters POV’s as they hooked up. There was absolutely no purpose to this chapter other than to have a random s e x scene for no apparent reason. I mean, I was happy to see the two characters get together but I didn’t need a POV change to a random person or a s e x scene that wasn’t in relation to the MC’s. The MMC never had his own POV in the whole book! Seriously, what was the point of this chapter?!?

Anyway, I liked the conflict, I liked the world building, and I loved the authors usual wittiness. Her stories are usually well played out. This one was a little all over the place. But I did like it.

Evidently this is also a reread from 2015 - but apparently I didn’t really enjoy it back then. This time around I most definitely enjoyed it. Funny how you can have two very different perspectives on the same book over the years.

Don’t get me wrong, there were a few things that got to me plot wise, but nothing substantial. Also, I’d venture to say that the book got an overhaul since the last time I read it since editing mistakes were low. The new cover helps solidify that theory.

A very solid 4 stars.

Good read. Kristof and Caitlin are a mismatched pair. He's a male brick house; she's gots curves in all the wrong places (her sentiments). How could he want her, especially with females (human and wolf), throwing themselves at him? Plus she blames him for a family hardship. A slightly steamy tale with a LOT of shenanigans leading to their HEA.

A quick enjoyable read

A bit light on story, but a pleasant enough read. A collection of jealous and grasping characters, on both sides of a deception and theft, with a sweet romance in the middle of it all... with unexpected friendships developed along the way.

Looking forward to the next book in the series.
