Controlled Access is a dark psychological crime and conspiracy thriller about a hidden organization that does not need to kidnap people by force. Instead, it controls the very systems designed to protect them.
Known as Mercer, the organization operates through schools, courts, hospitals, airports, correctional facilities, private carriers, and government databases. A changed custody order, an altered medical chart, a cloned credential, or a redirected transfer is all it takes to make an ordinary person disappear—while every official involved believes they followed proper procedure. Behind it all lies a network of corruption, government surveillance, and buried crime designed to leave almost no trace.
FBI agent Gary Cook has spent years searching for the truth behind his sister Rachel’s disappearance. When former operative Deacon Fulton reveals that Rachel may have been one of Mercer’s victims, Gary joins forces with investigative journalist Elle Jensen, harbor master Jon Rourke, federal agent Miguel Torres, and a scattered network of survivors and unlikely allies determined to uncover the truth.
But Mercer is already watching.
Tracked through digital records, transportation systems, government surveillance, and official channels, the group is forced to abandon technology and vanish into back roads, private airstrips, hidden cabins, and analog communications. In a world increasingly shaped by surveillance, every digital footprint becomes a liability, every official record a potential weapon, and every privacy invasion another way for Mercer to find them.
Running, however, will never be enough.
To expose Mercer, Gary and his allies must turn the organization’s greatest weapon against it, creating a doorway Mercer cannot resist entering. What follows is a dangerous battle against a conspiracy built on institutional corruption and the frightening possibility of a surveillance state in which the people controlling the system can decide who exists, who disappears, and who is allowed through the door.
Dark, tense, and fast-moving, Controlled Access explores missing women, institutional corruption, surveillance, privacy invasion, buried crimes, and the terrifying power of people who can manipulate the systems everyone else is taught to trust.
