This book is wonderful in teaching Science and how to protect our Earth. Teachers can incorporate this book in teaching children ways to keep the Earth clean. This book gives many examples of how we can keep our planet clean and healthy for us.
This educational book was worth buying at a charity sale. I enjoyed following along as we approached Earth Day, April 22nd. This is an easy and friendly way to impart conservation and environmental attitudes and steps to everyone. As much as children, though ideal to learn early; it definitely behoves grown-ups to pattern courteous approaches to tending to the Earth. It goes a long way in protecting and caring for ourselves, as well as the ten-million other species of lives for whom this is home. That does not count plants!
I gave four stars for a friendly depiction of a teacher with her pupils; sketches that give practical demonstrations of their lessons and efforts. They weren't meant to be exquisite art but to pleasantly help tell this short, instructional story with visual representation of things this class tried. My favourite pictures were of eager, proud parents especially invited by their children and their teacher, to try these newly-learned and important activities, at an Earth Day party. Diana Magnuson filled that role in this 1994 manual-type book. The author of “Celebrating Earth Day” is Janet MacDonnell, for whom my appreciative and applauding feedback is the same.
This was not a profound, emotional approach to a vital subject; for instance, on behalf of protecting animals. It is not really a story. It is a nice conversation between a teacher and her students about conserving our resources, with simple steps, like generating less garbage. I liked the caution about the plastic that holds a set of soda cans, which should be ripped so that animals don't get caught in those loops. They all joke together over a light but meaningful, easily-absorbed discussion. Teachers and parents could get a lot out of this brief coverage. How paper is recycled was entirely new to me.
