Arcanium #2

Carousel

Rate this book
These days, she’s traveling in some unusual circles…

Before her father can kick her out of the house, Caroline runs away to join the circus. She’s far from the oddity or performer that Arcanium is known for, but the fortune teller grants her wish to become a part of his circus and assigns her to run the carousel.

It’s repetitive work and the quarters are cramped, but it’s the perfect job while Caroline figures out what the hell she’s going to do with her life.

Then some of the creepy carousel mounts—the ones that look like tormented human men—start coming to life at night. At first she thinks they’re just dreams, but she quickly discovers that Arcanium is no ordinary circus.

Caroline must not only come to grips with the shady motivations and affections of her new colleagues, but also with the driven desire inside her for Riley and Colm—the men bound to the carousel to atone for their sins, who beg her to save them.

Reader Advisory: This book contains horror-related gore and violence, a scene of miscommunication where sexual assault almost occurs, but all sex scenes within Arcanium are consensual. Includes MF and MFM sex scenes and multiple partners. Warnings for demon clown sex (it’s just as weird but hotter than you think— avoid if coulrophobic), sex with well-endowed demons, and voyeurism.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not really one to love the circus. I mean, I like watching the shows and all that, but I've never been really intrigued by it beyond that. However, in fiction, I like knowing what goes on behind the curtain. I like reading about how these people from different backgrounds come together, live with each other, and travel around to places just to perform.

Arcanium is not your usual circus. There's Bell Madoc, the jinn and fortune teller who makes your wishes come true in the most twisted ways. There's Kitty, the bearded lady, who's found her place right in the middle of demons and the otherworldly. And of course, there's the ringmaster, a scary demon who is someone you would not want to cross.

I loved reading this book. Of course, I really liked Maya, but Caroline is a good character too. While you can read this as a standalone, you'll enjoy it more if you've read Fortune. This is where you will meet Madoc and Maya and understand their history. As a second book, Carousel continues in giving us a great portrait of a dark and sinister circus where nothing is normal and the things that exist within its grounds are things that any normal person only dreams about.

The author does a great job of creating a mental picture of these characters that we come to meet in Arcanium. I could vividly imagine the twisted carousel that Caroline was in charge of. I could clearly see the two men bound to the carousel as mounts, coming alive at night to find their release, depending on Caroline to save them from their servitude.

I would most definitely recommend this book if you like your books different from the usual. This isn't your normal romance novel. It's full of sex and kink and paranormal oddities. However, it is quite good and engaging. I will surely follow this series and will be watching out for the next installments.

Carousel is the 2nd book in the Arcanium series. I believe it could be read as a stand alone, as all of the previous characters are established and this is about a different set of "people".
Caroline is a young adult who is trying her damndest to find a summer job, her father is upset with her lack of employment and is constantly harping on her. She decides that she wants to join the circus, little does she know the secrets that The Arcanium hold.
As her luck would have it, the Carousel is in need of an operator - and she is the perfect person for the job! She agrees to 1 year of employment and the story starts-
Arcanium isn't your normal, run-of-the-mill circus though - as she will soon find out!!
As Caroline assimilates into her new life, she learns many things about herself and those around her.
Jinni are real, demons are real, and humans aren't as they appear.

Overall, this was a spicy story with 2 men and 1 woman whom turn to each other to find comfort and care. The road isn't always smooth and the bumps are quite exciting.
I really love the cast of characters and will continue this series as I want to see how they develop. I will warn - this story just kind of dropped off and I need to know how the rest of Caroline's servitude will play out.

Arcanium series

The series took me a little bit to get into but once I had a good grasp of the characters I was sucked right in. The plots are erotic based but also relate to real life experience. The plots move forward at a pretty good pace also. I'm definitely looking forward to more in this series.
