This series was my first introduction to Dani Pettrey, one i thoroughly enjoyed. The one thing I loath about a series... is when you have to farewell the characters. But with Dani Pettrey you kind of work from one couple to the next; but yet they're involved in all books; so you get to know them as you work your way through. I like how that works. It means you drawer out the time before you have to farewell them(!). Love the themes of the books; an easy light read, but a bit of romance and suspense... who doesn't love that combination?!
Reading these stories is like binge watching Hallmark movies! So lovely written and adventurous. The large outdoor-loving McKenna family of 5 brothers and sisters explore murder mysteries in the Alaska wilderness with the help and love from old and new friends, and of course, God. Each sibling has their own personal story of triumph and tragedy and a beautiful love story worth waiting for. Grab a comfy blanket and cup of coffee- it’s very cold in Alaska but these stories will warm your heart right up!
This is the fifth and final book in the Alaskan Courage series about the McKenna family. Although it is part of a series, I believe it could be read as a standalone book without feeling as though you didn't know what was going on. The characters in this book who previously were the focus of their own book were woven in nicely with enough detail that you didn't feel lost. The McKennas are a family of five brothers and sisters who bound together and took care of each other after their parents died. They live in the small town of Yancy, Alaska and are all involved on the local search and rescue team in various roles. Reef McKenna, the focus of this book, is the brother who has finally come home. He was gone for some years on the extreme sports circuit and lived a pretty loose lifestyle. He has recently returned home after some difficulties that drew him close to God. He has turned his life around and is very happy about it. Kirra Jacobs has known Reef since they were five. Their "relationship" has been antagonistic as they have picked at each other for years. She is the town's vet. Kirra has always been the "good" girl who never makes any waves. Reef is drawn to her when he returns but is concerned because he feels the sparkle he has always enjoyed in her eyes is gone--replaced by a sadness that he can't figure out. Reef and Kirra are paired as volunteers at the Idarod and both are secretly thrilled until Reef see Kirra sneaking away at night. He refuses to let her go by herself to look for her missing uncle (who is normally a front runner). They are soon drawn into a dangerous hunt for Kirra's Uncle Frank and cousin Meg. Meg has been kidnapped to force Frank to do something. It becomes up to Reef and Kirra to find Meg to stop Frank before something devastating happens. Various McKenna family members pitch in to help with the search. Reef does eventually find out what took the light out of Kirra's eyes but she finally finds the healing she's been looking for when she lets go and lets God. A very satisfying end to the McKenna family saga. I'm kinda sad that there isn't another sibling so the series could continue! I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this series so much I finished in a week! I fell in love with the McKenna family and their stories. I couldn’t wait to read each of these books because I knew they would be filled with excitement and intrigue along with a good love story. Every book is filled with so much adventure. I loved the Alaskan setting!! It was fun and much different than what I normally read. The mystery and suspense makes it hard to put them down. Though I love a good mystery, I’m not one to pick up suspense books, but I loved every one of these! The characters, next to the faith, were the highlight of this series for me. They became like friends to me. They’re all unique and special in their own way. I loved getting to know them all! Their stories were all special. The love stories are sweet and always left me with a big, sappy smile. ☺️❤️
The faith in this series was the highlight for me. It was beautifully written. These characters aren’t perfect but watching them grow in their relationship with God was beautiful. The faith brought such beautiful light to a series of books that could have been dark given the topics the mysteries followed.
I feel Dani Pettrey does a really good job of dealing with hard issues. She doesn’t give too much detail, but she also doesn’t sugarcoat it. The theme of redemption and God’s love for us that’s prevalent throughout this series touched my heart. I would recommend this series to older teens and up due to some mature content.
I loved this suspense series! It’s different than what I normally read, but it surprised me in the best way. I was hooked! Maybe I’ll be more likely to pick up suspense now.☺️
The Alaska Courage Series by Dani Pettery is a series everyone should read 📚 . I’m serious. The faith 🕊️ elements, the romance 💘 , and the mystery/suspense 🕵🏻♀️ are perfect.
The series takes place in Yancey, Alaska 🏔️, where the McKenna family have to figure out who killed who 👀 and what the motivations were 🙈. This book series will keep you on the edge of your seat, yelling 🤬 at your Kindle or your audiobook until the end 😅. I cried 😭 so much over so many aspects of it. But I have to say that the faith 💛aspect was my favorite part. The journey that all the characters go through and finding God is absolutely beautiful and members of all religions I feel could appreciate the care and beauty that this book has in regards to that 💛🤍🕊️.
⚠️CW: now these books are suspense, so there is a little bit more gore. Drowning, strangling, blood, death, murder, autopsy, abuse, drugging, rape, suffocation, kidnapping, trafficking⚠️
This series of 5 books follows each of the McKenna siblings as they find their true loves amidst the Alaskan wilderness. I thoroughly enjoyed them all! The suspense was wonderfully written and the Christian elements within the books were tastefully added. I highly recommend this series to those who love clean romantic suspense. Once you have read about one McKenna sibling, you'll want to find out about all of them!
There's so much love, excitement, tension and every other emotion human hearts experience in this group of stories. I fell in love with the extended McKenna family and the rugged beauty of Alaska and feel sorrow that my glimpse into their lives has come to an end. I definitely recommend Dani Pettrey when looking for a satisfying read!
Follow five siblings living in Yancey, Alaska as each discovers a life partner in the midst of mystery, murder, kidnaping, sex trafficking, and unpredictable weather. The siblings work together to solve crime and keep their loved ones alive.
Dani Pettrey has done an excellent little job with her suspense writing and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
Recommend this series. I couldn't stop reading once I started. Very inspirational but more than that. Great story line and loved the setting in Alaska.
I just read Sabotaged. excellent read, mystery to the end sweet romance and well developed characters & Story. Definitely intend to read the rest of her works. Highly recommend this author.
I really loved the first book, and then got the chance to get the whole series, suspenseful, romantic and very inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone, especially any struggling Christian that needs a little inspiration. Good read, I will read more of her books.
Y'know how sometimes when an author writes a series you just can't wait to get your hands on the next book? Well, not so much with this series. The same trope is used in each book...male protagonist can't stand female protagonist; female protagonist can't stand male protagonist...yet they just can't help falling in love despite their dislike. The saving grace is some good descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness.
