I was hoping for a sweet romance with a cute couple what I got was a clean romance and that's not a bad thing but when it's followed by ... ~Lacklustre plot ~Unconvincing premise ~ Dull characters ~ Bland romance ~ Lack of depth in all the above department making reading a chore.
There were so many things wrong with this book and skim reading the next 50% didn't show any improvement in the plot, characters or romance in Charlotte's Summer either. I'm glad I gave this new series a chance but now I'm ready to have a go at different book and perhaps I'll find a gem.
This was a light quick feel good read. Although meant as a novella I would have liked to read a bit more of this story. For a mail order bride story the characters seemed just a little too quick to accept each other when they were complete strangers to each other. I think a bit more story development would have made it s great read.
This is a perfect read for the days one needs a pick-me-up. Everything is perfect; everyone is flawless; nothing could ever go wrong. The sweetness is a little bit unbelievable, but that's what gives the most powerful punch in this quick, easy-read romance.
I gave Charlotte's Summer 4 stars because Annie Lane made it easy to visualize the characters and setting and feel empathy for Charlotte, Thomas, Junior, Earl and others. The story moved quickly and had a happy ending. I look forward to reading the other stories in the series.

It was sweet. everyone in is sweet except Mr Graynger. I'd keep this one in mind when my daughter is in her teens as a good simple love story with good people who aren't expecting too much out of life but the simple things.
This is one of those stories that I wished hadn't ended. Beautifully written, this is a short and sweet Mail Order Bride book. Charlotte is at her wits end because she has to leave the orphanage as she has turned 18. Thomas appears to be very contented with the life he is living on his farm and yet, there is something missing. His best friend is a female pig! And I think that says it all. Charlotte and Thomas get together and it's the little things like a smile that start meaning something to each of them. There is also the little boy whose mother died. He is just too cute for words. Most enjoyable.
Charlotte lived in an orphan in Seattle and the man who runs it is older he’s been leering over her sense she turned sixteen, he tells her when she is eighteen he’s going to marry him. She doesn’t want this and in a few weeks she will be eighteen.
Thomas needs a wife he is lonely and with only Rosy to keep him company he writes an advertisement with a bridal agency.
Charlotte escapes but what will she do when she finds out about Rosy ?
Mail Order Bride-Charlotte's Summer:Clean Sweet Western Cowboy Romance(Seasons Mail Order Brides Book)
This was just the sweetest story I've been lucky enough to read. When I read clean sweet western cowboy romance I was so surprised that this was just the book I would like. I recommend it to anyone who wants a good time reading.
The premise of the story is fairly typical for mail order bride novels. The only things that really bothered me were 1) how much they focused on her beauty and his handsomeness as a reason for their growing "love" and 2) that they are in love after a couple letters and a week together. It was a sweet, clean story and a fun, easy read.
This is a a rather mediocre work that does manage to deliver on the titles promise of a clean, sweet romance. In short nothing happens that a parent can object to if their pre-teen daughter should happen to read this book!
I really love reading about the mail order brides. Even though I know that probably a lot of them didn't have happy endings I'm fascinated by the fact that women were in such desperate circumstances that they were forced into marriage sight unseen.
What a sweet story this was, I loved it from the first page! The characters were wonderful and the storyline was great. I could see everything that was happening, I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
I agree with the reviewer that said the writing is juvenile. The story is simplistic with a lot of silliness in thoughts and conversations, so I stopped at 55% because I was starting to skip a lot.
Rated based on what it is. Short sweet book about orphan girl who must leave her home before 18th birthday so becomes a mail order bride heading to Conrad Montana. Meet the townspeople to set up future books.
This is a quick read, easy and simple story of two people falling in love and finding what sharing a life could be. Not a lot of drama or complications but a perfect read of you like romance and are just looking for something to improve your mood.
