’m supposed to be focused on med school, not falling for the one man I absolutely shouldn’t want.
Lewis Morgan is my patient, my brother’s sworn enemy, and the most frustratingly irresistible man I’ve ever met.
He used to have everything—confidence, ambition, control. Then a motorcycle accident stole his legs and changed both our lives in ways neither of us saw coming.
I’m training to become a doctor. I believe in science, progress, and fighting for every possible chance. Lewis believes his future is already decided.
As he fights rehab and I fight my growing feelings, lines blur fast—between caregiver and confidante, friendship and something dangerously close to love. But believing in Lewis means pushing him toward hope… even when we’re terrified of what hope could cost.
And choosing him might mean rewriting every plan I ever made for my future.
Turns out, life doesn’t follow schedules.
And love doesn’t wait for perfect timing.
You're the One That I (Shouldn't) Want is a heartwarming closed-door romantic comedy filled with banter, healing, hope, and a love story worth rooting for. Inspired by a true story, don't miss the author's note to discover the real journey behind Lewis's.
Marion De Ré is a closed-door romantic comedy author. She lives in the French countryside with her husband and adorable cat. You can expect all your beloved tropes in her writing as well as a good dose of humor and all the feels. When she's not reading or writing, you can find her on a plane to a far-away destination.
A medical romance with heart and humor is exactly what the doctor ordered. Marion De Re delivers a charming grumpy sunshine story that’s based on a true story. I quickly grew attached to Lewis and Marcie and every moment of their banter.
Lewis is confident, ambitious, snarky, and Marcie’s brother’s sworn enemy. An accident strips that away, leaving a pretty amazing and vulnerable man in its wake. Marcie’s dreams lie in medicine and her generous heart allows her to build a beautiful relationship with someone forbidden.
De Re does a phenomenal job of giving these characters a beautiful and hopeful story. I was deeply invested in it and felt all of my heartstrings tugged. The encouragement and chemistry mingles to offer the sweetest of experiences and I enjoyed it all. I adore Marcie’s family and hope they each get a book.

A couple of years ago I stumbled across a book by this author and I'm soooo glad I did! I loved every moment of reading it! And I have read every book that she has released since them. I am hooked!!! I LOVE her books! Yes, I love the sweet romance stories that she writes, but it's so much more than just the sweet romance. The characters pull me in completely. I love their struggles and desires and dreams and being imperfect people who are just trying. I love it all and this book was truly fantastic!!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would! I saw that cover and was 100%+ interested in it. Then I read the synopsis and was even more so ready for it! Let me tell you that it does not disappoint at all! I felt all of the emotions right there with the characters. Which I love when a book/author can do that to me! I know I just finished it earlier today but man, I'm still thinking about all of it. These characters have a piece of my heart. I think it really pulled me in even more because of it being based on her dad's story. There have been some changes to the storyline to make it work and flow smoothly but I loved reading her author's notes at the end of the book to know that!
Marcie and Lewis are so much fun right from the get go! I loved them! They have a bit of a forbidden to see each other at all thanks to her brother. And I loved watching Marcie decide if it was worth having that or worth fighting for the chance to be there for Lewis, in the joys and hardships! I shed a couple of tears and I definitely laughed and cheered for these two. The swoon factor is real with this one! The accidental touches of the hands, the chemistry and the tingles. Seriously, read it!!! And go read her other books if you haven't had the chance to do so yet!!! LOVE THEM ALL!!!
Content: Clean. Lewis is involved in a motorcycle accident and becomes paralyzed from it. He undergoes treatment and therapy to try to help him get better. His characters does have the emotions and sorrows that come with that type of accident and damage. But the author did such a wonderful job in writing it all and being very sensitive in how she talked about everything!
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my pwn.
I am a big fan of Marion De Re’s lighthearted romcoms, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I found out her latest release, You’re the One That I (Shouldn’t) Want, had an MMC who was recovering from a life altering motorcycle accident. Well, I absolutely adored this book; it combined De Re’s signature character development and romance with elements of a true story close to her heart. It was brilliantly done.
The story focuses on Lewis, a former college football star, and Marcie, a current medical student. When Marcie starts working as a nurse’s assistant in the hospital between semesters, the last person she expects to see as a patient is Lewis and the last person he wants to see is her. As Marcie helps care for Lewis and visits with him after her shift, she starts to see the man behind the pain and despair he feels after his accident. Unfortunately, her brother hates Lewis and has forbidden her from having anything to do with him. Fortunately, Marcie ignored her brother. The story that follows is full of hope and compassion as well as banter, chemistry, and swoony kisses.
I loved how Marcie and Lewis both felt drawn to the other from their first meeting. It was so fun to see them finally get to explore a friendship, even though the circumstances were not ideal. De Re did a great job of bring life to a cold and sterile hospital room.
Marcie was so full of light and love. I loved seeing her learn and grow as person. I was cheering her on in certain scenes. She was fabulous. Her relationship with Lewis was so sweet.
Lewis was such a complex character. I loved how De Re explored Lewis’ current reality and what that meant to him as a person. His story definitely made me think and ponder and appreciate life. It was so fun to watch him fall for Marcie. I loved their banter and chemistry.
De Re did a wonderful job of blending the banter, chemistry, and swoony moments with the real hard moments of Lewis’ injury. The book never felt too light or too heavy. I enjoyed every minute of reading this story.
Book Review You’re The One That I (Shouldn’t) Want A Novel Written By Marion De Re’ Fiction - Romance Published August 2026 275 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is such a sweet love story. Knowing it is based on a true story, made this romance even sweeter.
This is a story about hope and never giving up.
This is an unexpected romance between Marcie and Lewis. Marcie is in medical school and has a summer internship in a local hospital. Lewis is a college graduate who played football while in school. His life is shattered when he is in a devastating motorcycle accident. The accident has left him paralyzed. Marcie and Lewis knew each other in college. Lewis is Marcie’s brother’s arch nemesis. Their paths cross again when Marcie is assigned to work on the ward where Lewis is a patient.
The two slowly become friends and more when Marcie starts to spend time with Lewis as he recovers. As a medical student, Marcie already has a strong bedside manner as she brought Lewis back to life.
“Life’s full of surprises - good and bad - but that’s kind of the beauty of it, don’t you think?
✨ Tropes: 💞 Grumpy vs Sunshine 😂 Rom-com chaos 🥰 He falls first 💋 Slow-burn romance ❤️ “I shouldn’t want you… but I absolutely do” vibes 💯Based on a true story
This was such a sweet and fun rom-com! 🥹💕 I loved the whole “this is definitely a bad idea… so why can’t I stay away?” energy. The chemistry, banter, and unexpected feelings made this such an easy and enjoyable read. 😍
It had that perfect mix of laughs, swoony moments, and heart without feeling too heavy. Sometimes you just need a cute romance that makes you smile, and this one definitely delivered! 💕✨
If you’re looking for a lighthearted, feel-good romance with plenty of chemistry and unexpected feelings, definitely add this one to your TBR! 📚💖
This might be my favorite book by this author. She always writes a good, solid romance, but this one blew me away. Marcie and Lewis stole my heart from the beginning pages.
I admit I shed a few tears as Lewis struggled mightily on a daily basis, at times even giving up. But the shining light was always Marcie’s effervescent personality and her kindness, which was what made this story tick and bubble off the pages into your heart.
It had the author’s signature writing style all over it, but it also had a personal touch that shined through the story as well.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow - this is a book you won't want to miss! I started it, was instantly pulled into the story, and struggled to put it down.
When Lewis has an accident, his life is changed. While I wouldn't call this book heavy, we are exposed to the feelings of anger, depression, despair, and hope as Lewis experiences them.
Marcie has had a crush on Lewis since she met him years ago. However, he's her brother's enemy so it was never an option to get to know him. After starting her internship at the hospital as a Nursing Assistant, she is taken aback when she walks into his hospital room. Seeing how dark he is, she starts to spend time with him in hopes to help lighten his mood. And of course, with the close proximity and the moments of vulnerability, the attraction intensifies and we get a great romance story.
Marion De Ré is a master at creating characters that you connect with and wishing you could meet them in real life. She also is able to craft a story that has you feeling all the feels - the heart tugs and the empathy for what both Lewis and Marcie were feeling were real! I loved how the relationship between Lewis and Marcie progressed. It wasn't all rainbows and sunshine, they had some fights and arguments, which made it more real.
As the book is based on a true story, it was interesting to read the section that gave insight into what was fact and fiction. It truly is amazing what the body can do and some of the medical procedures that are out there.
I really do hope that we will get books that focus on each of the Rosemont siblings and also Sloane! I really want to know more about their stories!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "Life has a way of pushing dreams to the back burner when rent is due."
"I'm dreaming of what it would feel like to belong somewhere."
"A grin builds on my face before I can stop it. 'Friends, huh? What does Big Bro have to say about that?' She shrugs. 'What he doesn't know can't hurt him.' 'So,' I say, waggling my eyebrows, 'I'm your dirty little secret?'"
"But having someone by your side every day...it makes a difference."
"Nothing is impossible with enough hard work and determination."
"This feels dangerously close to happiness."
"You Don't have to be perfect to be worthy. You already are."
"...life is messy and uncertain and beautiful precisely because nothing is guaranteed. That plans can shatter - and still leave room for joy."
What is it about off limits romances that suck us in? Now granted not all off limits are truly off limits, which is the case in Marion De Ré’s new book. You’re the One I (Shouldn’t) Want is a sweet romance that brings together two people that know their attraction is dangerous. Having a crush on your brother’s enemy automatically puts the attraction in a box, one that can’t be opened. Yet Marion deliciously has our MCs tiptoeing the line and falling together in a beautiful story.
Marcie and Lewis have known each other for a while. Lewis used to be best friends with her brother but now they are enemies. This doesn’t bode well for Marcie as her schoolgirl crush on Lewis has always been under the surface. They lose touch and go their own ways. Until Marcie walks into a patient’s room and there lies Lewis. Marcie is completing her medical residency and knows the dangers of treating someone you used to care for. Yet something about Lewis is off and she is determined to help him find his back to himself.
Marion does a wonderful job keeping this story lighthearted, but she does include topics of heavier connotation. With Lewis’ whole life changing in an instant, he is dealing with many emotions that are festering under the surface. Marcie provides a safe place for him to share his thoughts and vulnerabilities. I really enjoyed reading about these two being in each other’s safe place. Everyone deserves that and Marion did a spectacular job in deepening their connection.
As this story is inspired by Marion’s own father, it was easy to immediately feel for both our MCs. I loved how Marion shared the facts of the actual event at the end of the book to allow readers to see how the fiction grew from real life. This book provides an insiders look into part of Marion’s real life and I thank her for trusting us with her own experiences. I do hope to see more of this world from her as there are some amazing characters within this book I would love to get to know better.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🩺Medical Romance 🩵Brother’s Enemy 🩺Grumpy x Sunshine 🩵He Falls First 🩺Doctor x Patient 🩵Closed Door Romance
Note: This book is based on some true events. The romance is not one of them. But the events that happen to Lewis are parallel and sometimes exact to what happened to the person Lewis's injuries are based upon.
I’ll say here that I loved this book. And I ugly-cried more than once, for more than one reason. I am that person who feels everything, all the time, and there is no off switch. And the way this story grabs hold of me and makes me feel things is a great credit to the author, who has been one of my favorites for some time now.
When Marcie was just starting out in college, she was at a party that she hadn’t wanted to go to in the first place. But her older brother Dean had cajoled her into it, and after an hour, she had a headache and just wanted to go home.
Girl. CAN RELATE.
As she’s leaving, a guy bumps into her and sloshes his drink all over her. They have an immediate spark, until Dean sees who Marcie is talking to, and she finds out that Lewis is her brother’s nemesis. So she writes him off (but not completely, there was still that spark) and goes on with her life.
They reunite five years later, running into each other at a coffee shop. But their path to everlasting love is going to be tested to the limit when Lewis is riding his motorcycle, and a woman loses control of her car and crashes into him.
I have seen a crash like this before, and let me tell you, Lewis is lucky to be alive. Still, the path forward is littered with pain, depression, frustration, and anger.
I love that when Marcie finds out what happened to him (which is when she’s getting training for her nursing degree and he’s one of the patients in her boss’s care) she decides she’s going to be the one who’s there for him. I won’t go into the particulars, because honestly, you really just need to read the book. Will Dean find out? Will Lewis dig his way out of anger and frustration? Will Marcie find her happy ending? Like I said, you’ll have to read the book.
Not everyone will ugly cry like I do, but I dare any reader to read this story and not be moved by it. Get the book. You won’t regret it.
You’re the One That I (Shouldn’t) Want by Marion De Ré ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Of all the Marion De Ré books I’ve read, this one may have stolen the top spot. ❤️
Lewis’s life changes in an instant after a devastating accident, and while this story doesn’t shy away from the physical and emotional realities of what follows, it never loses its sense of hope. There’s so much encouragement woven through these pages, a beautiful reminder that even when life looks completely different from what we imagined, there can still be friendship, laughter, family, love, and new beginnings waiting for us.
And then there’s Marcie. Sweet, determined, and exactly the kind of person Lewis needs. Their chemistry is there from the beginning, but I loved watching something deeper grow between them. Their relationship is flirty and fun, tender and heartbreaking, and ultimately so full of love. Add in the complicated family dynamics and the fact that Lewis happens to be her brother’s enemy, and I was completely invested.
What makes this story even more meaningful is knowing it was inspired by Marion’s father, who experienced a similar injury in the 1980s. Reading the fact vs. fiction section at the end added another emotional layer and made the hope at the heart of this story feel even more powerful.
I flew through these pages and finished with the fullest heart. Lewis and Marcie’s story is emotional, encouraging, funny, romantic, and beautifully hopeful, a reminder that sometimes the people who change our lives find us in the most unexpected ways. ❤️
Make sure to add this one to your TBR list! You don’t want to miss out on this sweet romance!!

A huge thank you to the author for the advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was such a fun and unique book! I was invested in the story and I didn’t want to put it down. You’re the One I Shouldn’t Want is written by Marion De Re. You actually briefly meet Marcie in Marrying the Billionaire but you get to know her better here! I loved Marcie! She was just trying her best to find her place while still carrying for others. She had a big heart and was drawn to Lewis. It was cool to see Marcie gain confidence and learn to stand up for herself. Lewis couldn’t seem to catch a break, a bad accident found himself without the use of his legs and he was trying to figure out how to live life. I love getting to see beneath Lewis' facade. He was really just looking for a place to belong. Lewis and Marcie were sweet together! They had a lot of obstacles to overcome like the fact that Marcie’s brother, Dean, hated Lewis. I was definitely interested in seeing how everything would work out. I liked the progression of their relationship as they became friends. Lewis was definitely struggling with his prognosis and although he was mean at times, I understood him. I felt for Marcie though as she tried to navigate being a friend to Lewis and dealing with her brother. This was a lovely book and I would totally recommend it! The medical side of the story was so interesting especially since parts of it were based on real life. I really liked the characters and I am hoping that Marcie’s siblings get their own books. I would totally recommend You’re the One I Shouldn't Want! It is a closed door romantic comedy.
Book Highlights Brother’s enemies Learning to hope Forced proximity ish Family and siblings Medical romance She takes care of him
Beautiful, poignant story (based on the real life injury that the author's father suffered earlier in his youth) about how life can change in an instant and how that change can lead to something wonderfully better than expected. Lewis is an ex-football player who, in the blink of an eye, sees not only his body destroyed by an automobile accident, but his ability to further his education wiped away when he wakes up and realizes that his very able body has been badly injured. Marcie, who is a med student and the younger sister of Lewis' former teammate, just happens to be interning in the hospital where he is brought to for emergency surgery and treatment after his accident. As we read the story, we are privy to not only Lewis' thoughts of despair and loneliness as he realizes that he has no one to turn to during this very difficult time, but we are also aware of Marcie's desire to be a friend to Lewis and how that friendship, over time, blossoms into something more. Additionally, Marcie has to rethink the timeline she had created for her education and career as a physician. Together they not only have to work to overcome his disability but also Marcie's apprehension and her older brother's desire to control who she is friends with. There is certainly sufficient chemistry between the two main characters and the dichotomy between the self-assured Lewis and the quiet bookish Marcie is a joy to behold. While Marcie is quiet, she is no wallflower and the banter between these two is fun to read. Overall, this is a tender story that will leave you with a smile. Be sure to read the information at the end of the story where the author reveals what happened to her father and how he came through it. I received an ARC and a positive review was not required.
I am not like a lot of readers. When I read, I don’t see images and pictures in my mind, the words don’t come to life and are just words on a page. Therefore, there are few books that bring my deeper emotions to the surface. I read books; I enjoy books; they quite often make me laugh out loud. But rarely does a book make me live it the way this one did. I was completely invested in Lewis’ story with Marcie.
I think a lot of this is because this one is based on a true story. I have read many books by this author; she is a great storyteller, but knowing this one had a real life behind it, personal to the author, it made the story come alive in a way I’ve not felt before. It had warmth, humour, and joy, as well as some really heartfelt and sometimes dark moments.
Lewis’s journey was one of honesty and determination. It wasn’t an easy journey, but the romance and lighthearted moments saved this from being too much to bear. It was emotional without being a car wreck (sorry about the pun). Marcie was genuine and kind; she only wanted the best for Lewis, even if sometimes she didn’t think it through before opening her mouth.
I particularly liked that after the story had ended, the author let us know just how much was based on fact and what was embellished or created just for the story. Knowing some of it was actually genuinely real and knowing a real person went through that was shocking and humbling.
This is my all-time favourite book by this author and one of the best books I’ve read this year so far.
Simply put... wow, what a story! There is not a Marion De Ré book I have read that I didn't enjoy, but this one is going to be hard to top as a favorite! I truly was not prepared for the emotional roller coaster this one took me on! Of course, we get that humor and lightness that I love in Marion's writing, but we also have the realities of Lewis's accident and what that has taken from him... both physically and mentally. At times, this story was absolutely heartbreaking...you couldn't help but feel everything that Lewis was feeling right along with him. But the romance between Lewis and Marcie brought such a light to the story too. The chemistry between them was apparent from their very first meeting. He falls first and hard, but I loved how she showed up for him despite her brother's protests... I have to say, as much as I love a good brother's best friend romance, it turns out, brother's enemy is a fun little twist... and I loved it. Perhaps the most beautiful thing about this story though is that it's based on a true story of the author's dad who suffered the same injury as Lewis back in the 80s. She breaks down the truth vs. fiction at the end, and it only made me love this story and the way it ended that much more. Truly, a must read!
You're the One I (Shouldn't) Want is a closed-door romance with kisses only and minor language.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
❤️ I thought this book would be on the heavy side—what happens to Lewis and the emotional struggle he battles don’t exactly scream heartwarming story. Then Marcie becomes part of the story, and everything shifts. At that point, I knew Lewis & Marcie had me invested—I wanted their happily-ever-after from the start!
❤️ Lewis is angry, stubborn, and goes through all the stages of grief after his accident. It’s no surprise that he’s determined to keep everyone at a distance—even Marcie in the beginning. Marcie is just as determined as Lewis; however, she’s the sunshine to his grump. She has the medical knowledge to know she can’t fix everything, but that doesn’t stop her from finding creative ways to make each stage a little more tolerable.
❤️ Their romance and path to forever are the sweetest. Marcie has a plan to follow, and Lewis is definitely not part of it. Of course, falling in love never follows the plan, and suddenly Marcie has to question what she really wants.
❤️ Lewis & Marcie are such a great pair, and I loved rooting for them! Five stars—make sure to give them a read. ❤️
🩺 This book is based on a true story, so don’t miss the fiction vs. facts section after the story! 🩺
A Heartwarming, Emotional Story of Healing, Determination, and Love
If you haven’t read Marion De Ré, you are truly missing out. She has a marvelous way with words and a talent for crafting crazy, memorable situations that make her writing style so enjoyable. You’re the One I (Shouldn’t) Want is packed with off-the-wall banter and deep emotional moments. Plus, it’s partially based on a true story—be sure to read Reality or Fiction at the end to learn Lewis’s real-life ending!
While the synopsis gives you the basic plot, it doesn’t fully convey the beautiful yet trying bond that Lewis and Marcie build. Marcie is a medical student working a summer job at the hospital when Lewis is brought in following a devastating motorcycle accident. Put in charge of his care, she hurts for him and is determined to help him heal.
Lewis, however, feels his life is over. He’s angry at the world, and Marcie unfortunately bears the brunt of his frustration. But she refuses to give up. Day after day, she returns, and along the way, unexpected feelings begin to bloom.
This is a touching, deeply emotional, and heartwarming read that will pull at your heartstrings. I can’t recommend it enough!
This book was so incredible to read. Honestly I couldn’t put this book down. It was an original take on multiple tropes that I have always loved reading. This story really stuck with me long after I finished it. It grabbed me by my heartstrings, pulling me along until I was so emotionally invested I refused to do anything but find out what was going to happen next. Lewis and Marcie had such a genuine connection. Now that’s not to say that there weren’t challenges for them. These two both went through a lot during this story. And I just wanted them to find happiness. The friendship they formed was such a beautiful basis for more to develop. And the chemistry that sparked between them was utterly undeniable. Watching them find a way to truly live and seeing the support there was beyond endearing. I truly melted. And then there was that ending! Marion…you did that perfectly. Throughout this story the struggles and turmoil were front and center. And I adored the fact that this was not lost with a trivial ending. We got one that’s hopeful and meaningful and deep. Everything they deserved.
A brother’s enemy to friend to more romance that is both tragic and heart-warming. This is the best Marion De Ré book that I’ve read yet! With this being the first in the (Un)expected Love Series, I am definitely looking forward to seeing the rest of the Rosemont Sisters find love (maybe even their brother’s story… Marion?). I also love how she wove part of her father’s true story into it and made it this amazing love story.
Marcie is the younger sister of Dean who is the quarterback and captain of his college football team. When Marcie is a freshman, they attend a party together of which she is not having fun and is trying to leave when she is shoved on accident by Lewis the man that her brother can’t stand so he tells Lewis off and then tells Marcie to stay away from him. 5 years later and many times seeing each other throughout campus and things suddenly change.
Lewis is a freshman with Marcie when they meet but with her brother always on alert to him getting near her, he tries to stay away even though he tends to be in the same vicinity. 5 years later and they run into one another again, this time without her brother nearby and the temptation in still there. However, that night his world is turned upside down. A few weeks later and she happens to be at the same hospital as him and training to be a nurse.
When his life is turned upside-down, she happens to be there to help and be the sunshine to his grumpy.
This book by Marion De Re is such a great one! I loved the forbidden romance vibes between Lewis and Marcie.
Marcie is a medical student when she first meets Lewis. Lewis is her brother's sworn enemy at the start and that only becomes more true as the story goes on. One day, it becomes part of Marcie's job to care for him in the hospital. Caring for Lewis quickly becomes more than a job for her. I love the way she fights for him to be more him, even when he's drowning in all the change he's going through.
Lewis was never the bad guy that Marcie's brother made him out to be. I love the way he fought hard for every thing that he had. He wasn't dealt a fair deck of cards for his life, but he made the best of it. It was interesting watching Lewis deal with life after his accident. Accepting the changes that came to him would have been hard for anyone. And he did his best. Life was brighter for him when Marcie was there helping him.
This is a cute book. And I was surprised that it was based on a true story. It's one you definitely want to read!
I absolutely loved this book! I think it’s officially a new favorite of mine from this author. I adored the storyline, especially knowing it was inspired by a true story—what the author’s father went through. Hearing more about it in the author’s note at the end brought the story into a whole new light and made the emotional moments hit even harder.
I loved how Marcie never gave up on Lewis and continually encouraged him to keep pushing, fighting, and believing in himself. Her determination and dedication to him were so moving, and together, they were the perfect couple. I loved their chemistry, and Lewis’s witty banter.
At its heart, this story is about hope, fighting for yourself, second chances, and forgiveness. It was emotional, heartfelt, and such a beautiful story to experience. Definitely one I won’t forget!
This book publishes August 28, 2025. Thank you to the author for my advanced reader copy. This is my honest and voluntary opinion.
What a journey! Marcie and Lewis’s story is one of hope, heartache, resilience, and so much love.
I love Marcie’s heart. She is so good and kind, which has sometimes been taken advantage of. It was good to see her step into her own and find a way to go after what she wanted and shake off the fears she had.
Lewis is such a complex character and I really loved seeing him grow as he learned to deal with massive changes in his life circumstances. He is a grump by circumstance, not by nature, and it was interesting to see how he changed, for the worse (temporarily) and the better throughout the story.
I love that this book is based on a true story of the author’s own family. As I read, I was rooting so hard for them. I knew there was a “fact vs. fiction” section at the end and I was so tempted to read it, but knew it might spoil some of the bigger details. It was hard to resist, but I’m so glad I did!
This brother’s enemy, forced proximity, medical romance is the 1st in a new series about the Rosemont sisters and I can’t wait for them all to get their happily ever afters!
This book is based on a true story and I was absolutely hooked from chapter one. I have read quite a few of Marion’s books in the last 3 years and I must say she has yet to disappoint. This story was inspired by Marion’s father who experienced a similar injury in the 80s and it made it even more meaningful to me. The tropes you can expect in this story are 🔹Grumpy vs Sunshine 🔹 He Falls First 🔹 Brother’s Best Friend Enemy 🔹 Medical 🔹 Based on a True Story Lewis used to have everything and then a motorcycle accident he faced his greatest challenge. Marcie is studying to be a doctor and Lewis ends up being her patient. As he fights rehab, their feelings begin to blur and it’s impossible not to fall in love with both these characters. I rate this story 5 stars and highly recommend you add this to your TBR. This book releases August 28, 2026 and I can’t wait to add the physical book to my shelf upon release.
***I received this book in exchange for an honest review***
“”There’s something good to be found in every situation. Things happen for a reason. We just have to look for the silver lining.”” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW! My first reaction as I started reading this was “this isn’t your typical Marion book!” This deserves all the stars, all the high fives…a standing ovation! Brilliantly written! Emotional, hopeful, humorous, romantic, powerful, heart wrenching…
Marcie is a med student and interning during the summer. She’s shocked to find her brother’s ‘enemy’ on her floor. Her sunshiny demeanor brings joy to Lewis’s dark days. A friendship is soon kindled between them. So much goodness in this novel you don’t want to miss it! Even when we go through dark tunnels, there is light and laughter, love and new beginnings. Inspired by a true story, please read author’s note!
Thank you so much Marion De Re for the complimentary ARC. Review is based on my thoughts and opinions. Release Date: August 28, 2026
Oh, this story really grabbed my heart! The author did such an amazing job of helping me feel the emotions of both Lewis and Marcie. My heart hurt for both of them at various times throughout the story, such as when Lewis was stuck in the hospital bed, learning to accept how his life was forever changed as he healed. It also hurt for Marcie during times when Lewis lashed out emotionally toward her, out of fear and anger.
Yet this story was overwhelmingly hopeful, with a beautiful love that built from a formed friendship between these two as Marcie spent time after her shift brightening Lewis's day and just being there for him. And, of course, I loved how things worked out for these two!
Make sure to read the "Reality or fiction?" section after the story to find out which parts of the novel were based on the author's own father's accident and recovery years earlier.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What an amazing book. From the college days when Marcie's brother Dean forbade her to talk to Lewis to her helping him navigate the worst accident imaginable, it seemed like every setback made her strengthen herself. At the time of his accident, Marcie was working as a nurse's aide as a summer job between her first and second year of med school. Although she's there as part of her job, but it becomes much more than a job trying to help him as he heals and adjusts to his current life. Lewis doesn't take this for granted as he realizes so much of his success is because of her positivity and constant support. What happens as weeks turns into months? Well, they fall deeply into love and a future unfolds that will tug at your heartstrings and possibly make you cry.
375 pages flew by, peppered with deep breathing and tears. I loved every moment reading it, and as always this fabulous author excelled at writing another incomparable story to us to treasure!
This is an intriguing and heartwarming story. It starts out with forbidden love for Marcie, at least according to her brother Dean. His arch enemy, Lewis has no right, even looking in the direction of his sister. As for Marcie, she is fine with that directive because she has no time to date anyone since her main focus is her medical degree. A few years later, Marcie is shadowing a registered nurse at the hospital when she walks into a room and sees Louis prostrate on a flat bed. When she finds out he had been in an accident and is now paralyzed. The story has a lot of real life challenges, hopes, and meaningful conversations. Even more intriguing as the fact that this is based on a true story, someone very close to the author. I received a complimentary copy of this book, and a positive review was not required.
5+ ⭐️ Wow what an amazing heartwarming story. I was drawn into it from the very first page until the last one. I wholeheartedly love the romance between Marcie and Lewis and their journey to get there. I also loved how Marion beautifully described every aspect of Lewis’ journey, the life changing experience, the emotional side of it, the frustation… I felt every emotion alongside the characters and I was really invested in their story. I cheered for them, laughed with them and even shed some tears. Eventhough his life was flipped upside down, there was still laughter, hope, friendship and love in the picture. I received a copy and I’m leaving this review voluntarily. This story has it all, it’s emotional, hopeful, romantic and encouraging. The fact that it was inspired by her dad’s story makes it even more meaningful. I totally recommend this story!
Thank you to Marion for my complimentary copy of you're the one That I (Shouldn't) Want. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is the medical drama romance HEA I didn't know was missing from my life. It is such a sweet story of hard work, dedication, resilience, and perseverance. All the more poignant when you read the author's notes and see it's based on a true story.
While I knew it was going to be a HEA, that did not make the story any less heart wrenching. The ups and downs of Lewis' medical treatment were not sugar coated at all. Marcie is not put off by any of the challenges Lewis faces. She is there by his side through thick and thin.
I met Marion a few years ago on holiday and now after reading this sweet love story I want to meet her Father, the inspiration for her book.
* I received a free copy this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review.
* This is book 1 of the Unexpected Love series and can be read as a standalone. * First person dual pov * Closed door romance: kisses that don't get too heated *CW: one use of a swear word and read the author's note for more
Knowing that this was loosely based on the story of the author's father made me much more interested in reading Marcie and Lewis' book, and I'm glad I read it. I loved how Marcie was there for Lewis in his time of need, but I also loved how he helped her be more direct. Their journey wasn't without bumps, but I enjoyed every second and felt for them. I also liked getting to know the Rosemont family and can't wait to read the next book in the series. If you're a reader who loves heartwarming romance with themes of healing, then you may like this one.
Wow! I truly loved this book. Finding out that the injury in this book is a true story made it even more incredible! Marcie, the youngest of the Rosemont siblings is driven and working hard towards medical school. Lewis is her brother, Dean's, nemesis. He's a football star in college, and Dean is always working to keep them apart. After college, Lewis is working many jobs to save for college, when he's in a terrible motorcycle accident that leaves him paralyzed. Marcie's summer job has her caring for Lewis as a patient. The writing was impeccable. The story line was so interesting. I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day. I loved all of the relationships that were woven into their world. And Marcie's sunny personality was a cherry on top.
