Reading this book was a journey from start to end. I have always loved and admired Michelle Visage, so I had high expectations for her Diva Rules and she delivered. The style is in her usual manner funny, frank, and full of sincerity, positivity and well-meant tough love. Her self-deprecation is both funny and relatable, her seriousness - touching and emotional. Reading the parts where she discusses her struggled with anxiety and disordered eating is very very honest, very emotional, and very validating for many people who struggle. I came into reading this book with a love of Michelle, and finished it with an even deeper admiration, a sense of closure, and a feeling of having been somehow understood by her, despite having never have met.
It's a beautiful book, it's an important book - for young people, for people who are struggling, who aren't sure of their identity and their place. It's a light read, but it's also a meaningful one. It's not that kind of prose that most people would call "raw" because it isn't tragic, but with The Diva Rules Michelle shows us that positivity and conquering the daily challenges can also be raw, can also be beautiful, and touching in the best ways.
I would definitely recommend this book to everyone, regardless of wether or not they are familiar with Michelle's work in other spheres, just because to me it seems like a quintessential read that can offer something to everyone.
