Chelsea Wyatt, a single mom trying to build a life for her and her son, is sick of the body she sees in the mirror. A daily diet of Cookie Crisp cereal is not doing wonders for her mood or her figure, and it’s time for a change. Setting out to get fit, she commits herself to a daily walking plan, forcing herself to give up her all-sugar and carb diet, a difficult task at her donut obsessed job.

But her plan goes sideways when a stumble on the ice puts her in the arms of Jay, an attractive young man out on a run. They grab coffee together, and Chelsea finds herself thinking about him long after their short meeting. The thought of dating again hadn’t crossed her mind in years, and she doesn’t even know if Jay is available, or if he would be interested in her despite her unfit body.

Just when she has a handle on her new routine, her past catches up with her, throwing her blossoming relationship with Jay and the rest of her life into chaos. Can Chelsea hold onto the people she loves most, or will a wrong turn set her up for failure?

This is book 2 of the Pastime Pursuits series, and can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Hellooooo! Today is my stop on Tracy Krimmer's JAY WALKING blog tour and I've got a review and giveaway!! (#34DaysOfGiveaways will resume next week. I promise I haven't forgotten!! Just a major minor glitch in the personal life that is now fixed.)

We all know that I'm a HUGE fan of Tracy's. She was one of the first authors that I met when I started blogging a year and a half ago (holy crap!) and it has been an honor to read all of her books and watch her writing get better with each! (Not to say she wasn't amazing to begin with, but we all grow as we learn, right?)
Working Out2

Hee!!! I love that scene! JAY WALKING's predecessor, CACHING IN, is one of my favorite books. You can find that review here. Chelsea first makes her appearance in CI as best friend of the heroine, Ally Couper. We got to know Chelsea a bit and follow the demise of her very one-sided relationship with her soon-to-be-born baby's father. We end with baby James making his appearance. Baby!!!

Fast forward a couple of years. It's Chelsea's turn for the spotlight and Tracy did an outstanding job showing us the new Chelsea and sweet toddler, James! When Tracy announced that she was writing Chelsea's story, I was ecstatic. I mean, there's a baby. We need to see it grow up a little bit, right? I needed to see if being a momma changed Chelsea at all too. She was slightly...I don't want to say "unlikable", that's not it...annoying(?)...ahh, immature. Would do whatever she needed and that included stepping on a friend. It was nice to see a more mature Chelsea.

Her new relationship wasn't so terrible to "witness" either. Jay (fit, eligible doctor) was, overall, a decent guy. I won't do the spoiler thing, but if I was there, I would have smacked him upside the head a couple of times. *sigh* Men!

I started and finished JAY WALKING on Sunday night. Yes, Sunday night. No, I could not put it down.  You will probably have trouble doing that as well, so I recommend leaving an entire afternoon/evening open. :) It won't seem like much time has gone by when you're done. Promise!

Are you ever inspired by a character in a book? We're almost to the end...bit of a personal moment here. You can skip if you wish. For over a year, I've been saying that I'm going to lose some weight. Just over a year ago, I hired a virtual trainer whom I absolutely adore and then threw out my back getting string cheese out of the fridge drawer. Yup. You read that right. String cheese did me in. Out of commission for almost two weeks (major ouch) and still visit the chiropractor at least once a month. I've since tweaked another spot in my back and last week, somehow, I subjugated a rib. I'm not sure which hurt more. I've been scared to do too much activity-wise since the injury last year and it really shows now. I also sit at a desk all day and most of the evening. Call me lazy. Ha! So. Thank you to Tracy and Chelsea for lighting a little fire. I will be purchasing a treadmill as soon as I am able and my dad and I are building a desk for it so I can walk while I work and read!! #GoMe!!

Now. I know Tracy will read this, so I'm going to ask her here...What's next in the Pastime Pursuits collection?? Give the HPB'ers a sneak peek!!!

Tracy is giving away a PRINT copy of CACHING IN(!!!!) and a Wilson sweatband! Get your walk on in style! Good luck!

Chelsea is a 28 year-old single mom of a 2 year-old, and lives in her parents’ home rent-free with built-in child-care from her mother that doesn’t work. Although her parents have made taking care of James a bit easier, she’s still been a trooper on bringing him up without a father in his life. In fact, Chelsea was never really in a relationship with the father, so it’s no surprise that he’s never even met James once.

Chelsea realizes that she needs to start taking better care of herself, not just for her waistline, but for James’s benefit. She decides to start a walking program to begin to get healthy to ensure that she’ll be around to always take care of James and be able to run around and play with him. On her quest to start living a healthier life, Chelsea meets Jay. Not only is Jay cute and in great shape, but he’s funny and…. he likes her! But the path to love isn’t always straight and the two have their ups and downs and a bit of chaos in between.

The relationships that develop throughout the novel are a mixture of Fate, instinct and hard work. It’s important to be in a relationship with someone that respects and appreciates you and supports your interests and passions, not someone who is indifferent, uncaring and unsupportive. Motivation to be healthier should be for you and a personal decision, not because someone wants you to look a certain way. It’s sad to think that anyone would be in a relationship with someone that doesn’t respect you and that you don’t love, but it’s exhilarating to witness the moment when things turn around and that person finally stands up for themselves and does what their instincts tell them to.

This book was thoroughly entertaining and made me want to get up and exercise! It also made me want to spend the afternoon painting or doing something creative! I loved that Chelsea’s motivation to get healthy was to make a better life for herself and her son, and it led to one of the greatest opportunities and changes of her life. She was able to find new passions through her motivation and her focus was on feeling better and being healthy so that she could run around and take care of her son. The pride that came with her accomplishments was heart warming and her rocky road of relationships was realistic and charming. One of the biggest themes in this novel was the importance of believing in yourself and finding that special someone that believes in you to propel you through life. Another wonderful novel from Tracy Krimmer!

***Complimentary copy given by author in exchange for honest review***

"I love James more than anything, but the past few years my attention has been one-hundred percent devoted to him. I never do anything just for me."

This book hit the motherly heart inside of me. Moms always put there kids first (which is great!), but then forget about themselves in the long run. I completely related to the book in this way!

We are first introduced to Chelsea in Caching In (Pastime Pursuits #1). She was a crazy character of sorts because she was the loud best friend that you didn't want to like, but in the end, you fell in love with her too.

She was left in a tough situation at the end of that book--which leads to the telling of her story.

Chelsea was screwed over-pun totally intended- by Daniel. He left her pregnant and on her own. Flash forward two years and now she's a single mom doing everything she can for her son, James. Even if it means putting her life, and love, on the backburner.

Chelsea comes to the realization that she wants to better her lifestyle, so she decides to start walking. She wants to get rid of the pregnancy weight she still carries and to become more active to keep up with her active toddler. Who would have thought that her first day out on the sidewalk would result in a fall and the person she never saw coming?

"He's so sweet, but I want him to get to know Chelsea The Woman before introducing him the Chelsea The Mom."

Jay. As I was reading the description of him, I could completely see how Chelsea fell for him so quickly!! I mean, who doesn't love a fit man, sweating from running, with chraming good looks, AND interested in you?! Come on!!

It was an instant attraction, for sure, but I like that Chelsea was still a little hesitant before jumping right into a relationship. She still puts her son first, but gives herself the freedom enough to do this on her own.

When you're out of the game for a while, it's hard to get back in. But for Chelsea and Jay, taking things slow was exactly what was needed.

"I'm so afraid of falling. Mostly of falling in love with this man. My heart is fragile."

But like every good story, there's always a conflict. This conflict comes in the form of Chelsea's past who comes knocking-or texting- at her door.

Oh, I do not like Daniel what so ever!!! He's a jerk and a meany head. Yes, I just said that! I have to say that I sided with Chelsea's dad a lot with dealing with the jerkwad. (You'll have to read it to understand. Hehe) Not only was he invading her life again, but he was setting her back from her goal of finally feeling good about herself.

This story also deals with self image. I, myself, being a mom understood the feelings she had about her body and not feeling attractive in a sense. Of course, any person can find this relatable as well. It's a common thing, but Tracy executes the issue well throughout this book.

Another reason to love Jay...

"My body isn't what it used to be."
"I don't care what it used to be. I don't even care what it is now. You are beautiful inside and out."
"You're not going to like what you see. I'm not skinny."
"You're perfect."

Goodness me!! Love him. Even though I did want to kick him in the tushy a few times. Believe me, you'll want to do it to;)

This book pulls at the heartstrings! You have the story of a single mom trying to better her life and the life of her son--learning as she goes, but still fighting the past that won't go away.

There were times where I wanted to hug her, sometimes I wanted to smack her and say, "What are you doing?!", and then others where I wanted to give her a high-five and tell her "You did it."

Another great story from Tracy Krimmer!! I really enjoyed reading Chelsea and Jay's story:)

"Sometimes people who find the gold at the end of the rainbow keep searching for something more, as though what they found isn't good enough. I need to recognize the positive aspects in my life."

After reading Tracy's first book in this series, Caching In, I couldn't wait to see what happened to Miss Chelsea! The last time I knew she was pregnant with Daniel's and I felt for the poor girl!

Being a single mom myself, it is not an east life to lead! Lots of odds are stacked against you, but let me tell you how gratifying it is when you BEAT those and you succeed! It's not an overnight success but each little step really is a HUGE success!

Chelsea is doing everything she can to make sure that her son James has the best life possible! After all she is the one parent that he has to rely on after his father Daniel walked out of their lives before they ever met!

One day Chelsea decides, what better way to insure a great life for her son, then to start taking care of herself and getting in shape! She wants to start slow, walking it is!

Then one day she "runs" into a pretty gorgeous guy while out walking, Jay, and sparks fly!

So many questions are running through her head, is she ready to date? Will she tell him about James?

Then in the midst of her new found happiness - Daniel comes back into her life. RUN CHELSEA RUN!

This story has so many twists and turns as well as so many emotional highs and lows, it keeps you coming back for more!

This is the second book I’ve read by Tracy Krimmer (I recently reviewed Geocaching as well) and I have absolutely loved both! In this book we follow Chelsea, and her quest to not only better herself, but to find love. This is hard for her because she is a single mother, and the reason behind her split with her kind of boyfriend/father of her son really got under my skin. That guy was all kinds of bad news, and it was hard to see the blinders go on Chelsea. When he came back into Chelsea’s life, I definitely wanted to throw something. That guy! But Jay was a great character to read about, even though I was a little bummed he seemed to give up on Chelsea so quickly. But overall, this book was fast-paced, well-written, and fun to read. I’m having a blast with Tracy’s books!

Why did it go there???.. may have some spoilers ahead...
I was n0t sure about this book, since I was really excited for Book 1 of the series and it didn't quite meet my expectations. I actually wasn't sure at all how I felt about Chelsea on that first book.... now on THIS one, I really got to like her .. somewhat.

I liked a lot the story with Jay, I felt it felt like a real story and romance... not like Abby and Seth's relationship, which I never felt connected to. Now... my problem was Daniel! Why does she have to be so stupid around him??? I was really loving this story when he appeared and I felt my dislike for Chelsea came back.

Anyway... loved the beginning and the ending. The middle... well didn't understand the decisions she made (that's why it lost the fourth star), but over all it was a good and cute book.

Jay Walking by Tracy Krimmer is the story of a single mom, Chelsea who is trying to build a life for herself and her baby. She craves to get fitter and more appealing like her pre-pregnancy self. To get fit, she decides to starts walking and it is during one of her walks that she meets a hot and handsome runner, Jay. Sparks fly but their relationship is complicated with Chelsea's ex's return.

Will Chelsea make the right choice this time?

Or will she succumb to the mistakes of her past and lose Jay?

I read the first book in this series, Caching In: A Geocaching Love Story and this one, Jay Walking almost simultaneously and the main character in this book, Chelsea, first appears in the first book in the series.

However, despite this, both these books are standalone stories and can be enjoyed individually but still it is always better to read a series in order so as to get an introduction to characters and meet them outside of their own stories.

The cover of this book appealed to me right from the start with its catchy title and intriguing statement on the cover "The path to love isn't always straight". The blurb is also interesting and combined they are capable of catching the readers' attention.

The plot of the story is good and the execution is admirably done. I loved Tracy's simple writing style. She writes in the first person and gives us only Chelsea's perspective. I would have loved to read Jay's perspective to things too. However, the story is adequately paced and held my interest right till the end.

I felt frustrated by Chelsea and didn't quite agree with her. Sometimes I felt like she lacked sense. Even in the first book although, she had a small role but still even in those few moments she sometimes came across as stupid, jealous and then repugnant. I wasn't able to make up my mind about her. Here in this book, a deeper insight has been given into her life. While I felt sorry, supported, empathized with her single mother problems and felt touched by her love for her son, I didn't agree with her decision of staying with a man who was already committed to someone. She had a pattern all through the book where whenever she started showing signs of having matured and sensible, she again went and did something stupid. I mean, she was educated, had such amazing parents then how could she be so foolish? She made the same mistakes again and again, took decisions that felt blind and insane and I just could not understand her reasoning behind them. Later, when everything went sideways, she agreed to those same suggestions from her family and friends that she had refused at an earlier point to go make these mistakes, on the first hand!

All through the book, at most points I kept siding with Chelsea's parents especially her father who is so involved and very intelligent. If she had taken heed to his advice most of her troubles wouldn't have happened but then she wouldn't have discovered herself like she did! :)

Jay is sweet, has a strange sense of humour that didn't appeal to me and while he started strongly and won my heart, I didn't agree with his other actions. His feelings for Chelsea are strong but...(Read the book to know about the 'but'). He played an important part in Chelsea's journey of self discovery and had me sighing with his awkward but very sincere gestures to show his love and care for her.

I felt I missed reading about his background and his problems with his new venture. A little more should have been said about his family, his work and his elusive partner. I felt I didn't get to know Jay as much as I would have liked.

Chelsea's son, James became the highlight of the story for me. He is cute, funny and completely adorable. I also loved Chelsea's parents who are stable, respectable and loving. Her friends both in office and at the gym had me smiling and liking them. Maybe, I'll get to read their story soon.

Daniel, Chelsea's ex, is a character I didn't like and I don't have anything good to say about him.

The story engrossed me but the end came early. I wanted to see how James fared after meeting Jay?, what happened with Daniel? Did he stay committed to his son? Did Chelsea and Jay marry?

All in all, I enjoyed reading Jay Walking but felt there were things I wanted to know more about. However, if you are looking for a funny, light and romantic story that apart from entertainment also gives a good dose of daily struggles with some very lovable characters and whole lot of self discovery then this book is for you. 3.5 out of 5 to it. I loved Tracy's style and will be checking out her other books too.

I received and ARC from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

An okay read.

This book took a turn that I wasn't really expecting and then just made me sad and not like it. I didn't want to read about Chelsea being in a bad relationship for most of the book. Especially when we got a glimpse of a possible good relationship at the beginning. It made me sad and annoyed at Chelsea. I wanted to shake her and tell her to dump Daniel right now. Not what I was expecting from this book and definitely lost some stars because of that.

I did like Chelsea's growth in accepting herself and taking pride in her achievements and goals. It took her longer than I wanted it to for her to realize her worth, but at least she got there in the end.

Just wasn't feeling this book. Not enough romance and too much of the horrible boyfriend.

Review for Chick Lit Central (chicklitcentral.com)

Years ago, I was a single mom. Granted, my son’s father was involved in his life, yet I went from having a marriage to not having a marriage at all. I had to rely solely on myself. While reading Jay Walking, I couldn’t help but be reminded of how much hard work goes into raising a family when you’re doing it mostly on your own. Chelsea Wyatt never intended to be a single parent. She had fallen in love with Daniel, and after discovering she was pregnant, he checked out. She lives in her parent’s rental apartment located in the basement level of their home, and they help out when they can, allowing Chelsea to work full-time and provide for her son. This wasn’t the plan she had for her life, but it’s her reality.

With all the upheaval and not feeling as though she has enough time for herself, Chelsea’s health has taken a hard hit. She decides to eat healthier, and takes that first step towards living an active lifestyle by venturing out for a walk. Along the way, she falls literally into Jay’s arms, a man who is toned up in all the right places and incredibly good-looking. A little too good-looking for Chelsea, in her humble opinion, but that doesn’t stop her from having thoughts of dating him. She hasn’t let anyone else get close to her, not after the Daniel debacle.

And speaking of Daniel, he shows up again at the most inopportune time, throwing a wrench into all the hard plans Chelsea has put into motion. It’s what she’s always wanted, to have him back in her life, in whatever capacity that might be. Her son needs a father, and who better than the actual biological dad? Only, is it really what she wants? Time can heal a lot of things, yet there are certain hurts better left buried.

I really enjoyed Jay Walking. So much so, I plan on reading it's prequel, Caching In. Chelsea's journey was like a walk through my own rough patch in life, and I was given another perspective into how someone else might deal with feelings of loss and inadequacies. For all the struggle, there is a lot of love there, too. In the end, Chelsea has to choose between doing what she thinks would be best for her little family, or doing what would be best for her heart.

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. I read "Caching In" a few months ago and Chelsea was one of the characters introduced in the novel. Even though she was a minor character, her actions throughout the novel were repugnant. I really, really didn't like Chelsea and wanted to strangle her throughout most of "Caching In".
Fast forward two years and Chelsea is the main character of "Jay Walking". She's given birth to James, the baby she was pregnant with in the first novel. And my has motherhood changed her. Instead of despising her as I previously did, I felt sorry for her. She's a single mom doing the best she can for her son. She finally decides to do something for herself and get exercising. She meets Jay this way (cute play on words for the title). He's an in shape doctor at a local hospital. Chelsea actually starts to take care of her needs and date Jay, even if most of the time it's just working out.
Enter Daniel, aka "sperm donor". He's suddenly decided that his relationship with his son is important after his wife kicks him out. In reality, he's looking for nookie (aren't they all?). He's very unkind to Chelsea and I hate him instantly. Chelsea's father also doesn't like the bastard. I enjoyed her father's character and his reactions to Chelsea's revelation that she was getting back together with him. It was very realistic for an involved grandfather who doesn't want to see his child or grandchild get hurt.
Throughout the novel all of the characters evolve and grow, some maturing in ways that didn't seem possible. I found this was one of the most enjoyable parts of the book. If you're looking for a fast paced novel with a little drama, a little action, a pinch of romance and a whole lot of self discovery, "Jay Walking" is for you. Check it out for a quick beach read...you won't be disappointed.

I just read Caching in - the first book in the Pastime Pursuits series and loved it so much that within minutes of finishing it I picked up Jay Walking. Jay Walking is the second book in the Pastime Pursuits series, but is a stand alone novel. It tells the story of one of the side characters from Caching In, picking up the story a couple of years down the track. I only really got to know Chelsea superficially in Caching In, and I didn't really like her, but within the first chapter of Jay Walking, I could see that she had grown and matured so much that I really wanted the best for her. If you are looking for what happened next for Ally and Seth, you won't find it here. They get a passing mention, but this is Chelsea's story.

I love Tracy's writing style, she kept me engaged the whole way through and I devoured this book in a couple of days. Chelsea is a single mother who loves scrapbooking and wants to get fit. She begins her exercise regime with the motivational aid of a smartphone app, and on her first walk, stumbles upon the handsome Jay. The novel deals with the issues of dating as a single mother and dealing with the absent father of her child.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

First of all I love the play of the title. Chelsea is a single mother that decides to start an exercise program to help loose weight. A stumble on the ice leads her to meet Jay, a good looking doctor. This is motivation to me to talk up walking. As she decides to step out of her comfort zone and begin dating she starts to realize what she needs to do for herself.

What I loved most from this story is how realistic it was. Each character had some sort of turmoil in their life that threw up obstacles. Ms. Krimmer did a great job of developing each character. You know you are reading a good story when you start to talk to each character. Jay was so sweet and then he had a moment where his decision made me say a few choice words to him. Chelsea so wanted to have a family for her son and did not make some wise decisions. Even though these decisions may have not been the best they caused each character to grown and discover what they really want in life.

If you want a sweet romance with some mild angst then this is a great read. You never know if you take up walking you might find Mr. Mc Dreamy

I recently read/reviewed Tracy Krimmer’s novel, “Caching In”. So, I was very excited to be able to move on quickly to the next story in her “Pastime Pursuits” Series. I am sure you will feel the same way.
In “Caching In”, we are introduced to Chelsea Wyatt. She is not the most likable character, as she was dating a man in another relationship…and, she was the other woman. But, I LOVED HER! She was very real. In “Caching In”, we find out that Chelsea is pregnant. Although, “Jay Walking” could definitely be a standalone novel.
This story is all about Chelsea. She is raising her son James on her own. When the story begins, Chelsea decides that she is not happy with her body, and she is going to walk off the pounds.
While out for a walk, she literally falls in to the arms of Jay. Hence the wonderfully appropriate name for this novel. (I love Tracy’s covers and titles)
Jay is a doctor and has a ton of awesome qualities, so it was hard for Chelsea not to fall for him. But, is there even the possibility of a relationship there?
Tracy Krimmer can certainly deliver great chick lit stories. I highly recommend her books.
(Tracy also inspires you to want to get up an exercise…great “side effect” LOL)

Jay Walking is the second book in the Pastime pursuits series but can be read has a standalone. I was in a major book funk before reading Jay Walking, and this was just what I needed to pull me out of it. Jay Walking is a light easy read, in which I read within one sitting. The story highlights the possible struggles you can face has a single parent.

Chelsea is a likable character, and very relatable. She's strong-willed and wants the best for her son.

Daniel, yeah let's not go there.

Jay is the sweet forever, guy. I didn't agree with how he dealt with certain situations, but he still won me over.

Jay Walking is the first book, I've read by Tracy Krimmer which I thoroughly enjoyed. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Jay Walking - PG13
Violence: no violence
Sex: slightly descriptive kissing, slightly descriptive foreplay, fade to black further intimacy
Language: 50+ swears, including deity, some crass phrases

It's fine. Not great. I'd PASS
Messed up heroines mess me up. This h has the *worst* self-esteem. And while I would agree that the majority of women in the US battle self-esteem issues (myself included), I cannot connect with her at all. She's in a "booty call" relationship *for TWO YEARS* and ends up a single mother with a not-involved baby daddy (who happens to be married with twins a year younger than her son.)

And she continues to make *really* stupid decisions because she wants a family with a marriage that's solid like her parents'. Ugh.

Cute story

Mom jeans and extra padding around her middle makes Chelsea stop and think about her life...or maybe it's the glances her mom continually gives her stomach. Yeah, probably the latter. Regardless, in an effort to be healthier for herself and her son, she takes up walking. Walking is not as easy as she thought and is far more embarrassing when she falls in front of a hottie on the way for coffee.
Can this be more? Can she picture anything in her life other than her son? When p push comes to shove, Chelsea is left grasping at thin air. Fortunately her friends are better than most of the men in her life...

I want to say this story was completely predictable however the female lead, Chelsea, was so poorly written, her actions/decisions were all over the place. Chelsea's actions were also so very immature but yet thought she was so much wiser than her younger coworkers.
Seems to me like Chelsea needed a swift kick in the adult ass. Living off of her parents, dating married men, potentially causing major life trauma for her toddler son....not impressed overall.

finally got the title!

after I was completely done with the book, I got the title!!! A reference to Chels' man! holy rollercoaster with jay, then maybe Clint, then Daniel, then possibly jay again, then finding out Clint is gay, then a pregnancy scare by Daniel and finally finishing with Jay....whew! what a crazy timeline. a good read though!!! would love to hear more about Amber and Ryan!

I enjoyed the book and the story. I love Jay and Chelsea as a couple. But I hate Daniel, he's a dick. Chelsea's friend Amber bothered me with her naïve optimism. I wish Jay and Chelsea's story continue in the second book instead of it being about another couple. Good reads though.

Didn't like the H

Well I didn't really like the h either. Jay was kind of a wishy washy jerk, but she wasn't so great either. They weren't even together most of the book. (I did like the author's other book about geocaching, so maybe try that one instead.)

If I said this book was pedestrian would that be too much of a pun? I'm not a big fan of those people who do things just cause they think that it will be good or make someone else happy. I guess all in all I just didn't believe either "romantic" endeavor.

Jay Walking by Tracy Krimmer

This was a decent book but a bit of a soap opera. It is the 2nd book in the series. Chelsea is a likable character. The reason Jay was on & off would have helped the ending. It was mentioned in a brief comment but a bit vague. Interesting storyline.

What is up with all these five star reviews?! This book has so much potential but fell so short. Plus Jay was a major douche canoe. For the love of God don't do it!

This is a good book to pass some time. It's not a total flop; I didn't rate it higher because I found all the main characters to be slightly annoying too much of the time.
