The Porch
A desperate young woman. A child left behind. A secret that will echo through generations.
In 1901 Alabama, Allie Brunson’s future collapses with a single discovery. Unmarried, pregnant, and cast out from the only home she has ever known, she faces an impossible choice—one that may give her child a better life but leave Allie carrying a lifetime of regret.
Her journey leads her from the soot-darkened streets of Birmingham to the grand homes of Mobile, where wealth, longing, and buried family history become dangerously intertwined. At the center of it all stands Havenwood, a stately estate whose peaceful porch will bear witness to an act of love, sacrifice, and secrecy.
Years later, the truth is still waiting.
Rich with Southern atmosphere, tender romance, family mystery, faith, and unforgettable characters, The Porch begins an emotional historical saga about the choices that shape generations—and the secrets that refuse to stay hidden.
Some doors protect a family. Others hide the truth.

About the author
Kay Chandler
30 books15 followersIn 1896, Henry James wrote in The Spoils of Poynton that he gathered 'germs' for his novels, saying most of his writings sprung from a single seed - a floating particle in the stream of talk. I got it! I understood, because as a Southern Fiction writer, I'm a gatherer of seeds also. I was born and reared in the Deep South. I love this land. I love my people. I listen to what they say and what they leave unsaid. It's the unsaid - those tightly woven secrets - that become unraveled in my books. I've been referred to as a Southern Gothic writer, even though my novels take place in the 1930's. I hope you enjoy these romantic Southern Secrets.

Didn’t care for the ending at all. The ending ruined it for me.

Chandler never disappoints! This story had some unexpected twists, as is usual for her stories, and a very good spiritual emphasis. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the second one in the series.

not what I was expecting
I felt it was a let down ending. So much left unresolved. Good story but no closure. To each his own!
