With a very strong opening and a very strong ending, I really enjoyed this novella. The McCarthy style shows right away, but it never feels like a knockoff. There is an otherworldly feel to the story while still being a horror-esque western. The prose read very well, especially on the descriptions of the landscapes.

There is a tonal shift at about the halfway point that did throw me a bit, and in that tonal shift some of the dialogue and story didn't land for me. However, the ending brought it all back and it ended on a great note. Definitely worth the read.
