An epic tale of 1971’s Indo-Pak war, which took place in the midst of the Bay of Bengal. This story revolves around the happenings of 1971 war that took place between India and Pakistan. This was when the situation between the two nations had gotten bad, and both were trying to protect their borders across land, sky and sea. The Indian Navy is notified about a potential sea attack by the Pakistani Navy sending their submarine ‘Ghazi’ to attack the Vishakhapatnam harbor. The Indian Navy, as a precaution, orders ‘S21’ – an Indian submarine – to take its position, on a passive mode, and gather the enemy’s whereabouts, and send the data back to the Indian Navy HQ. However, destiny has other plans. This saga unfolds displaying heroic acts of bravery and selflessness, all in the cradle of mother nature.
A cheap rip-off of Hollywood submarine films. The author is clearly oblivious of submarine warfare and the science involved with it. The CO keeps on giving 'full speed ahead' command while in surveillance mode.
It is almost impossible to communicate with submarines at depth of 200-300 mts, specially with very old technologies. VLF radio waves can only penetrate seawater to a depth of approximately 20 meters. Hence a submarine at shallow depth can use these frequencies. A vessel more deeply submerged might use a buoy equipped with an antenna on a long cable. Yet in this short story INS Karanj receives messages at quarter of a kilometer beneath the sea.
The protagonist just pops out from the sunken submarine and reaches the surface of the sea within a few seconds without dying. From such depths, you need to take no less than three hours to reach the surface.
Even some of the details about Kalvari-class diesel-electric submarine were described wrongly. They have three shafts but in this book it is described as having only two shafts. While the endurance of Kalvari class submarine is just 3-5 days, in this story the S21 is submerged for weeks without surfacing.
The writing is very amateurish. The actual story is just few pages and the rest is just filled with junk.
