I know a comic is great when I’ve finished it and I immediately want to reread it from the beginning. This is my favorite of all of Camp’s books that I’ve read. He and Rodriguez are working at 11 in the lineage of Morrison, and all their psychedelic metaphysical descendants.

Many attempt but view strike that balance of clarity and depth with most getting lost in the sauce, layering meaning upon meaning until it’s nothing but an indiscernible sludge.

I borrowed both of these volumes from a digital library but hope to have them in print soon so I can relish properly in the details of this story. I see a lot of trust on display here. Not only between creators but also between then and their readers.

I highly recommend to anyone who think comics are a transcendent art form. This is why I come back to this medium.

Gonna need a dedicated YouTube video breaking this one down, or maybe a reread where I do all 12 issues back to back. I know this is brilliant. It reminded me a lot of Mister Miracle. Especially all the anti-life reference and that High Father panel. But I can’t quite put my finger on it. I was very confused by what was reality and I know a lot of that is intentional but I lost the plot quite a few times. The overall vibe and art makes up for it and I feel pretty confident if I read enough commentary or try again it will all click a little better.

Still absolutely incredible but the first volume is PEAK to me; feel like this would have been better if the second volume was broken in two and the whole Absolute Martian Manhunter series was 18 issues, instead of 12

In my review of the first volume, I said that if this creative team can land the ending we'd have an all-timer on our hands. I probably set this series up to fail with that thought but the first volume was just so good. This volume is still GOOD but it's not quite the same level. Maybe it's because it feels like Part 2 and not a smooth continuation of the first volume, maybe Deniz Camp had said all he planned to say in the first and had to stretch for these issues once they got greenlit. Javier Rodríguez's art is still amazing and his take on Despero is nice and creepy. Could the first volume stand on its own? Yes. Should it? Maybe but, again, it was such a high ceiling that I can't fault this volume for being great compared to out-of-this-world.
