A good premise, a wonderful world building, good character building, nice lore, good magic system as well but it lacked on the tension and action. There were some action at the beginning but then it was gone and never came back.
I like feel good and slice of life stories but i like them with a little bit tension or risk or action but they were completely NA in this book. Otherwise like i mentioned above the other parts were good. We met some possible LIs and one LI in this book and eventhough i liked the LI in this book, i think the first possible LI introduced in this book and their interactions changing to a Harem will be interesting to read on the second book i imagine.
The whole book felt like 1 long chapter! Barely any action let alone any sort of drama or build up. No depth or much character build up either. Basically him just talking with so much unnecessary dialogue that could've been used to move the story a long better. Timeline felt like only 2-3 days with all this talk and pretty much a waste of a pages or story for that matter.. Only thing good was the premise but fell flatter than flat. Don't bother with this if u are expecting any kind of a plot or action of any kind. Almost 600 pages of nothing except a cple scenes.
Danny is by far one of my favourite authors. I’ve loved everything he’s written so far and this is no exception. Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way. The story itself is captivating and incredibly well written and edited. What really stands out in this book as in all his other books are the characters. They just feel real and they have soul. They come by their emotions naturally. It’s so easy to feel for them and wanting to read more about their story. This is what really hooks you.
Overall, a good book. However, it was really much longer than the story justified. Kyle, our MC, is dyslexic, and our good author points that out about a dozen times over the course of the book. Every few pages we are reminded poor Kyle struggles in school because of his dyslexia, poor Kyle gets headaches because of his dyslexia, and on and on. Another plot point that get hammered on ad nauseum is: Kyle is older than Molly (FMC), Molly is Kyle's best friend's sister, Molly grew up with Kyle, Kyle told his best friend he would look out for Molly before said friend died.
The characters and world in this book are what hooked me and kept me reading straight through. The way the arcane and the mundane were combined was thoughtful and extremely well done with a perfect blend of detail without lore dumps or time skips. The characters are the best part however and they are very well done and really leap off the page as real people not just a character sketch. Looking forward to more books in the series.
Great first book. All the characters are great and the romance is done well. Like the tie-in to his other series while also being it's own thing, but keeping the already established world building consistent.
I really hope Jane does not become a future LI. She's kinda dumb and abuses her authority.
Book 1 is off to a great start. The pace is picking up and rolling right from the start. There are so many interesting characters that looking to be integral parts of the story. The main character is growing by leaps and bounds, gaining both knowledge and confidence. I can't wait for book 2 to come out so I can dive back into the story.
How dare you end it like that. So rude! Excellent bloody book though. I swear this is just encouraging me to wait for finished series before reading. Who am I kidding. Give me the next one. Now please!
Refresingly new take on magic and how it works. Extremly well written. Just wish the MC was a little bit more decisive after working long and hard to deal with his handicap.
