I wrote down a fling I never called back as my emergency contact and forgot he ever existed. Three years later I wreck my car, and a 300-year-old sexy alpha King storms in, growling that I’m his fated mate.
I’m just a chaotic small-town librarian with a smart mouth, a cat who screams at walls, and no intention of belonging to anyone.
Nobody warned me the bond came with a possessive werewolf who moves in, fixes everything I own, and drops a dead deer on my porch as courtship.
“Flowers die in a week. That deer will feed you for a month.”
Rhys is enormous. Grumpy. And calls me his. Six-foot-something of flannel and bad decisions.
He pins me against the library stacks until I’m begging his name. And when he touches me, the noise in my head goes quiet for the first time in my life.
Here’s what wrecks he’s wanted me for three years. He knew the night we met, walked away, and let me believe I ruined us, all to protect a law he wrote himself.
Now his court comes to drag him home, and choosing me could cost him his crown and his life.
They think the human is the easy part.
“Please, Frankie. I’ll be yours if you never say yes.”
But the King who bows to no one is about to learn how to beg.
The only question is whether I let him.
Spicy, funny fated-mate romance. ADHD heroine, growly obsessed lycan king who falls first. Grumpy-sunshine, forced proximity, touch-her-and-die. No cliffhanger, HEA. 18+. Interconnected standalone.
For best reading experience, read Book 1 Bookish Girl’s Emergency Contact Is a Lycan King.
The story is cute, and the leads are likeable. Frankie (for some silly reason) has a one night stand that she ghosted three years ago listed as an emergency contact. Rhys shows up immediately and proceeds to prove to this reader why Frankie's choice was exceedingly boneheaded. The humor and great banter between this pair is lacking; the quirky townsfolk, especially Dolores, provide the levity, close-knit bonds, and small-town charm. There are editing/proofing issues, but this was a solid read.
I really love quirky characters, they're my jam. This book delivers on them in the best ways. My only issue is the repetition in the words used during the spicy bits. The repetitive words make it feel a bit forced. A bit like it's trying too hard. Alas, it not like it's the whole book so it's still cute.
I borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series, but reads well as a stand alone. Librarian saves the day! 4 stars.
If I had not just read the previous book in the series (Fable Pages and Orion, ie a book seller and werewolf), I would have liked this one better (ie a librarian and a werewolf). But I found the two stories to be way way way way too similar. Changing names and story slightly is not enough.
I could not finish. The timeline discrepancies were too much. It was not one, not two, but multiple and I just could not. The writing otherwise was good and it had likable characters, but it needed a good editor or beta reader. Do not recommend.
