The men of the Royal Navy Submarine Service are a breed apart. Often classified as slightly mad, working beneath the waves, enclosed in a steel tube, they are a mystery to many. This book proves the psychiatrists wrong; they are not slightly mad, they are totally insane. The bizarre antics of the crews of Her Majesty's submarines are laid bare in this hilarious and often ribald tale of those who protect their nation from below the waves, allowing us a unique insight into a way of life only a few are privileged to have known.
This book is written by a former sailor covering his life in the RAN, most of which he served in submarines. it is very funny. The author tells about the scrapes and scraps he was involved in, many of which were hilarious. He talks about the scams he got up to, most of which backfired in one way or another. He also talks in detail of life aboard a submarine. Some may find some of his stories distasteful, especially the one about wankerchiefs. I really enjoyed this book.
Probably the funniest book I've read in a lot of years. Some of my mates were in the mob and this book sounds very familiar. Great read, had to stop quite a few times to wipe my eyes. I would recommend it to anyone but probably ex-service personal would enjoy this more, even so if you're fed up with staying in due to the Coronavirus then this book will help you to laugh again. Brilliant book.
Hilarious but only really if you have ever served in the Navy, or lived with someone that has served in the Navy! Took me back to the good old days when I lived in Gibraltar. A funny read.
