My Rating: FIVE DELECTABLE STARS*****
Wow! Fate of the Minotaur is an absolutely delightful addition to the Her Dragon's Bane Series by Harmony Raines. Fate of the Minotaur is a relatively short novella containing approximately 85 pages. It has NO cliffhangers but does end with a very sweet and very satisfying happily ever after. Although it is part of a series, I believe that it can be read as a stand alone story. Fin the Minotaur was introduced in Book Three, Heart of the Dragon, when he helped Serena and then again in Book Four, Love of the Dragon, when he helped Serena's sister, Charlotte. I fell in love with this character and was thrilled upon learning that Fin would be given a book of his very own. So admittedly, I had very high expectations and Harmony Raines is never an author to disappoint. She knocked Fin's story completely out of the park. I was already in tears before I reached the end of chapter one. The story is exciting, original, unique, imaginative, sweet, heartwarming, romantic and arousing. The characters are very well developed, captivating, engaging and endearing. The dialogue is smart, well written and flows with ease. Fin was born a Minotaur and has been a resident of his gloomy labyrinth on the island of Crete for centuries. He was born with the body of a man and the head of a bull and therefore cursed to live in secret and hidden from the world. His only friends and visitors are Serena and Charlotte, two sisters who are mated to Connor and Zoah, dragon shifter brothers. Serena and Charlotte now live in Spellholm with their mates and a group of five other dragons and various other mystical creatures. Spellholm is protected by a magical spell that prevents non-magical humans from being able to stay. Charlotte and Serena have come to his labyrinth on Crete with their mates to offer Fin a chance to become someone else, something else other than the Minotaur. He would no longer be the creature of myth and legend that people would flee from fear if they ever saw him. Serena and Charlotte brought with them a magical potion made by the witch/seer Tara which would alter his physical appearance changing him from his cursed, hideous form to a handsome young man. What? And, they want him to leave his home in the labyrinth and return to Spellholm with them for a prolonged visit. Oh my! Fin doesn't trust this woman Tara but he does trust Charlotte and Serena so now, Fin has a choice. He can choose to live alone to be forgotten, or take the potion and leave with the only two friends he has in the world, Charlotte and Serena. What will Fin choose? Why take the potion, of course! After arriving in Spellholm while out gathering wood in the forest, he sees a beautiful young woman being attacked by two gargoyles and knows he must rescue her. He is instantly drawn to her but knows that she is an innocent and feels that he is still the uncivilized monster inside, undeserving of such a beautiful, pure woman. Still, he knows that he must protect her, no matter the cost, even if that cost is his own life. Sybil spent the first eighteen years of her life trying to pretend she was normal and tried to hide her visions from everyone including her own mother. But it was through a vision that she was finally able to find Spellholm or rather it found her. Normally her visions were only about tragic events like plane crashes, bombings or natural disasters so she knew that this vision had to be important. Since finding Spellholm and becoming a resident, she has finally felt relatively safe but still keeps to herself, venturing out for groceries or when absolutely necessary. She has always known she was different so she's always tried to live a quiet life and stay away from ordinary people. That's why she moved to Spellholm but she doesn really know people here either but she does know they are like her - different. She's never had a boyfriend and has never even wanted one - until now. Running through the forest, trying to escape the strange gargoyle creatures, she suddenly realizes that the real reason she came to Spellholm is waiting for her just ahead - for good or for bad, she knows she's about to meet her fate. And he is so handsome. Sigh..... So dreamy.....Can two lost, lonely souls find each other and discover happiness together? No spoilers from me but I will say this..... Former hideous Minotaur drinks a magical potion and becomes a handsome young man-check! Beautiful young virgin who is a seer and through her visions has knowledge of a terrible war and is destined to save the residents of Spellholm-check!
