America Speaks, When will Our Hearts Listen: When America Burn, So Does Our Conscience

Rate this book
America has spoken, and now it is time our hearts collectively listen. From the riots in Baltimore, and majority of America's living below the poverty line, it is time we concern ourselves with America's future. This book is a collection of citizens across America that is tired of the problems Washington politicians keep ignoring. It is time we stand up against police brutality, domestic violence and deplorable living conditions of those working starvation wages in America.

I love Kristin Hannah but political writing isn’t one of her strong points. Very liberal political writings. I agree with much of what is written. Nothing is as cut and dry as she writes. It takes both political sides to make anything work. Carry on! Let’s keep hope and praying for love and peace ✌🏽

So, so disappointed. While I love Kristin Hannah as an author and for the most part agree with the sentiments expressed in this “book”, I’m not sure I understand the point. This is simply a collection of letters of people ranting about what is wrong in our country. So I really don’t understand how anyone can claim to be the author. I’m also disappointed in the complete absence of any suggestion of healing as I had hope, and expected to find. A collection of angry letters does nothing to help the hearts of those who disagree to listen; it simply adds to the anger and divide. The question remains, “When will our hearts listen?”

Not 100% sure what I just listened to. I think it was a compilation of letters from US citizens about their concerns of what is happening in our society today. There was no context to the writing and no commentary to support or refute the opinions. This just came across as a bunch of complaints.

Interesting hearing all the letters written by random citizens about our government and political issues. However i felt this was written with very left wing. Would have liked to hear a mix of right and left side views.

PROS: Kristin Hannah, former social worker, gets to share her political and socioeconomic views through this collection of passionate letters from people around the USA. For Hannah fans, you will see her full political view of the world.

Cons: These letters are all so heart breaking and full of grief and rage. This is a short book - so the pain is abridged, as it were…but I finished this book with a heavy heart.

I’m still taking a stand for the possibility that the USA will evolve and produce leadership that takes us to a new level of successful democracy. We must have HOPE, otherwise we enter a slippery slope into a deep
and miserable depression!

As a collector of acronyms, may I share

HOPE = HOLD ON, PAIN ENDS!

Onward and Upward✨💕✨

I was so disappointed!!! I cannot believe this is the Kristin Hannah who wrote the wonderful books I have enjoyed. Truthfully, I only gave this one star because I thought no stars might be misconstrued as a liked work. I take offense that conservatives are considered heartless. As a conservative, I am extremely grateful for what I have. My husband and I went through some very difficult times in our 51 years of marriage. We were those poor, but worked hard to get a better life. We are active in loving the underprivileged and helping them in multiple ways.
I also found the narrator to be annoyingly brash and angry.

I read this thinking it was from the same Kristin Hannah of historical fiction fame. It is not. The book is simply a collection of letters expressing political views abut American politics. As with most Americans it displays the ignorance of the masses. There are no simple answers. Anyone who starts an argument with “Why can’t we just…” is clearly unfamiliar with the complexity of all national issues.

I love most all Kristin Hannah books for the very reason I gave this conundrum one star: I don't want to know which way you lean politically when I read your book. This was an epic fail in that category. Keep in the fiction lane- I love the way Hannah researches and writes. I love her female heroines. She is an excellent author IMHO.

While I agree with many of the letters written I did not feel this was the book that Kristen Hannah would write. I did get as far as 2/3 done with it and decided I had enough of the political world.
I agree with one other reviewer, and the fact that I’m not sure this was hers…. I so far have loved every book she has written

Quick listen. Not sure this is actually a book or a pod cast. It’s comprised of letters written to ? To try to wake people up to action. Not Hannah’s writing, it’s nonfiction. It wasn’t even written in Trump era. I can’t imagine what she is saying now.

The good: it’s short.

The bad: everything else, including this isn’t written by the Kristin Hannah most people think.

Conclusion: don’t waste your time like I did.

I get the reasoning, sort of, for putting this book out there but it sure isn't anything like all of the other beloved Kristin Hannah titles. I didn't finish.

A series of letters pointing out critical issues with our government, legal systems, population. Sad but true. Has only gotten worse since this book was published.

Well, this was a giant waste of time. A series of angry letters from people across the American spectrum. I don’t even know why I decided to read this, but I wish I had saved my time.

There were parts that I agreed with, and parts that were too full of vitriol to be convincing.

This book was only 43 minutes on audio but it was horrific. 10/10 do not recommend. It's just a compilation of letters from adults in America complaining about various topics in American society. There are no solutions proposed; instead is just a waste of time listening to people who are doing absolutely nothing complain about things they aren't doing anything productive to fix. This was a complete waste of my time.
