In their second case together, Capitaine Armand de Varenne and Lieutenant Margaux David find themselves in the gloomy underworld of the catacombs and the labyrinthine network of former quarries.
The body of a municipal surveyor and avid caver is discovered near the catacombs. Armand and Margaux take charge of the investigation. What was described to them as a routine case turns out to be a complex murder inquiry, leading them into the drug scene as well as the victim’s unusual private life.
No spoilers! I read and loved each book of Christophe Villain’s previous series. This book (2nd in series) is an attention grabber. The plot twists & turns quickly in a totally believable but not predictable way. For me it is especially interesting as the main settings are in the underworld of Paris that I glimpsed in a fascinating tour of the sewers. To me that’s a totally unique tourist attraction which made this narrative even more pleasurable to read.
Good story although I had worked it out much earlier than than the reveal at the end. The main leads are interesting characters and we still have much to learn about their past and - hopefully in a series of books - their future. I would recommend this book but feel you should read the first in the series, first, as it will explain the Armand and Margaux's relationship better and the trust issues they are overcoming.
