Anh Do

Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.

Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.

Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.

Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).

Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.

In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.

All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.

It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.

Kids thought it was hilarious - as they have done with every Anh Do book they've ever read. Anh Do is obviously their spirit animal. :P

{My thoughts} – Weir and his family are back in an all new fun story. This one is mostly based on the family pets. Weir and his family send a video of their dog and bird to a television show that shows videos of pets doing funny and silly things. Their video ends up becoming widely popular.

Due to the video being aired on television a bunch of people show up at Weir’s house the next day with cameras. They take tons of photos of Weir and the pets. They end up scaring the bird off and the rest of the book is everyone looking for the missing bird.

I really like these books. They are funny. They are interesting and they have a different sort of feel to them then most children’s books I have read. I enjoy that they are easy to read. I like that the cover dictates what color will be used to emphasize certain text within the pages of the book. In this case it is purple. I like how the words on the pages blend together seamlessly with the illustrations.

I look forward to reading more books in this series when they are released.

This is a fun book for kids, with just the right amount of small toilet humour. Love the illustrations. While Goodread's description of Anh Do is that of accomplished writer and stand up comedian, don't forget he's also an accomplished artist. He's obviously able to tackle the kid's market with ease. I have seen children in the primary school where I work reading this book in their lunch break. As a children's author myself, I found this very engaging. Good Doh!

Same humour style and formula as the others. In this one, Weir gets his video of Blockie and FiDo on TV and becomes famous with the media frenzy somehow knowing where he lives the next morning. Blockie flies off and Weir joins his dad, a trainee fire fighter in this story, to save a trapped dog.
I gave it three stars, not because it’s not enjoyable, but because it feels like it’s missing something. It’s likeable and easy to read with lots of illustrations.

Weirdo 4 is about a good dog named Fido and a good bird named blockhead. Blockhead got lost when the lights were flashing because blockhead is afraid of flashing lights. They found him in a lady’s shed. It was a happy end.

I like that it is so funny and good to. I like that there are a lot of different books of weirdo.

More crazy hilarious stuff here from Ayn Do about his character Weir Do. This is book four in the series, although you really just could read them in any order. Lots of fun and laughs and very speedy read with illustrations and bog font.

Very cute book about a boy named Weir(Do) and his two pets, Fido and Blockhead. I was puzzled to receive 10 copies in the mail, but have since placed them in tiny libraries around town, and am pleased to report they have all been claimed!

Did you know that parrots can bark? Well Weir Do's family parrot barks all the time! This time Weird Do's new dog and parrot are good friends and they go to Pet Day at school dressed as cowboys. This fourth book follows the funny antics of Weir Do's weird pets!
