Mating with Wolves #1

A Shifter's Worst Nightmare

Rate this book
Jake Taylor was just looking for some fun at the gay bar outside of his tiny ass town. He never expected to see a man who made the world shift beneath his feet.

Morgan Anson is young and good looking, and just Jake's type. It's weird that he feels an immediate jealousy of everyone Morgan dances with. He needs to get the man home, right now, and make him his. Jake just never expected to wake up the following morning next to a wolf.

Morgan didn't mean to shift. It was an accident, but he was so comfortable and happy next to his mate, that it just sort of happened while he slept.

They can't stay away from each other for long, however, though Jake knows he should, and even though Morgan is considered a curse on his pack, Jake will have to prove himself to the alpha if he plans on taking Morgan out of his abusive pack forever.

A solid start to a new series, this first book introduces a world where humans do not know about werewolves, packs are ruled by the most aggressive of several alphas, betas are kind and supportive, and omegas have no say at all and are servants – if they’re lucky. Morgan is one of those omegas, and his story is heartbreaking. Jake takes a while to figure all of this out, being “just” a human rancher, but he has a thing or two to say about how things are going to be from now on.

Morgan is just out to get laid when he runs into Jake. Having hoped for an encounter of the physical kind, Morgan is ecstatic when Jake takes him home. But events turn chaotic when he feels safe enough to shift in his sleep, and Jake discovers that Morgan is a wolf shifter. After Morgan is sent away things don’t go well for him. Not only does he miss Jake, his mate, with a painful intensity, he also gets treated even worse than normal for having dared to have some fun. An omega like him, with mismatched eyes that the entire pack thinks are a curse, certainly does not have an easy life.

Jake is also at the bar to have fun, and he is not prepared for the intense attraction he feels for Morgan. His initial reaction is pure shock, and he doesn’t really want to admit he misses Morgan once he sends him away, but in the end he is honest with himself and makes a step in the right direction by talking to Morgan – followed by some intense man-on-man action in the kitchen. What he finds out about Morgan’s past when the pack alpha shows up makes him mad enough to spit nails, and his behavior turns more than a little wolf-like in Morgan’s defense.

If you like werewolf stories, if you want to find out more about alpha-like rancher Jake and shy omega Morgan, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining and a good introduction to a new series, then you might like this novella.

Marcy Jacks has found her niche in writing and she sticks to it with this new series so far.

Morgan is an Omega and because of his mismatched eyes, he is seen as a curse on his pack. He gets blamed for anything and everything that goes wrong. But, because he is the Alpha’s nephew, they don’t simply kill him or throw him away.

Jake is a local ranch owner, and human. He knows nothing about the paranormal world. But he learns fast when he realizes Morgan is a wolf and his mate. I have to give the man props for not being afraid to stand up for Morgan, even against Alpha wolves. He may not be a wolf, but he sure acts like an Alpha.

I liked these two together. They are really cute and sweet at times. The sex is hot as I expect from this author. But still it was over all missing a little something. I am not really sure what. It was well written, so that was not the issue. Just something wasn’t there fully for me.

Either way it was just enough to prick my interest. I look forward to reading the more to come. Plus there was a little surprise at the end that I want to see more about.

A good beginning to a new series. Jake was pretty damn hot and I liked how well he accepted Morgan after his initial shock was over. I really liked how Jake stood up to Herrick, Morgan's uncle and the head alpha of the pack. Jake couldn't win in a physical fight but he sure as heck didn't let anyone think he was weak or easily cowed.

Morgan I simply adored but I always have a weak spot for abused omega's and he definitely qualifies. He can't believe his luck at getting Jake for a mate and he's just sure it's all going to disappear if he blinks.

I'm looking forward to the next book and I can't wait to see how Jake decides to handle Herrick's claims that he's now pack so his lands, his home, his horses, and his business belong to the pack and Jake is expected to pay a portion of his wages. That didn't go over well so I'm curious to see what happens.

I really liked these characters but I was disappointed in the actual story. i felt like they could have been better. Better as a couple even. I think the fact that Morgan was being abused was either glossed over or served no real purpose. . or both. it was also never really clear why Jake was so wolf like. was it Supposed to be just a funny coincidence? I don't know. .. Then the second book in this series is just abt the same couple. So it's like the first book was intentionally left a little unfinished so there could be a second book.

Loved this story

I found this Author recently and devoured a bunch of Defective Wolf stories. I expected this story to also be enjoyable but it was much better than I expected. I am hoping there will be a sequel to this story.

I liked the story line and the characters are growing. There is definitely violence and sexual content in this book. It will be interesting to see if Alain is next.
